online source for once fired brass
runco replied to towerclimber37's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Just some other resources to consider, Craigslist has some reloading supplies from time to time, just type in the word RELOADING. There are always someone selling brass. Just be very diligent if its a good deal or not. Also, I have had some success in buying Lake City brass from Gunbroker at reasonable pricing, just sort by listed first. Usually it does not last long on GB. Regarding finding brass at shooting ranges, there are some out there if you will just look. I know of one that always has the common brass weekly at very reasonable pricing. -
Yesterday around 3pm they had CCI, one box policy too.

The difference between Walmart and the local gun store is thier business model principal. Walmart probably has long term contracts with its supply base, and the local mom and pop gun store does not. Walmart probably has a standard markup of 15-20% and it is making the targeted margin on the ammo. Likely the local mom and pop is either paying alot more at the wholesale level, or is trying to follow the supply and demand principals. Both are in the business to buy low and sell high.

Classic supply and demand, if someone has something in short supply and high demand, the market is what the market is. Every retailer wants to find that equalibrium where both supply and demand meet. Where is that point post Sandy Hook, its anyone's guess. I would assume if inventory is not moving, then they are priced too high. If the inventory is moving on pace of say one year ago, jackpot!

Some gun prices are regional. Gunbroker which is the U.S. market, has general run of the mill 94s, in the mid to high 300s. Everyone knows GB is higher than the local market on most items. Here is a link: http://www.gunbroker.com/All/BI.aspx?Keywords=winchester+94+new

Kerry Commits U.S. To U.N. Arms Trade Treaty Gun Ban
runco replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I probably should have posted here yesterday, but a Senator added a amendment to the budget bill that prohibits the United States from entering into this treaty, and the bill passed the Senate with this amendment! http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/63085-new-fy2014-senate-budget-suprise-gun-related-the-un/ -
Food for thought (the last post, the man purchased 14 guns over a period of time and then sold them, sounded reaonsable), all stories had a ATF informant : http://articles.baltimoresun.com/1997-01-23/news/1997023071_1_atf-mitchem-federal-firearms-license http://www.hoddelaw.com/CM/Publications-Articles/Man-Pleads-Guilty-Dealing-Guns-Without-Federal-License.asp http://bigstory.ap.org/article/sc-man-pleads-guilty-illegal-gun-sales-nc-0 http://crimeblog.dallasnews.com/2013/02/garland-man-convicted-of-selling-at-least-135-pistols-and-shotguns-without-a-license.html/ http://heraldbanner.com/topnews/x1633476950/Rowlett-man-convicted-of-selling-firearms-without-a-license http://www.nj.com/camden/index.ssf/2013/01/pennsauken_man_admits_selling.html

Just one more point, maybe retailers are very smart, what if they had to disclose what they actually paid for something, so the buyer could see the markup, what outrage would there be? I believe the fever pitch anger some gun people have is that they know what people bought something for, and can clearly see the markup. This is just retail anger.

Another persons post got me thinking, do any of you secure your tools to keep a thief from using your own tools to gain entry to your own guns? Example, I have large pry bars, saw alls, hammers, cutters, acetylene torches, etc. in my garage, none secured. At least if the thief is going to breakin, I want him to use his own tools, he is honorable isn't he? I don't want to make it convienent for him.

Remember the cable will only stop the smash and grab, and kids. Assuming of course the smash and grabbers have no linesmen pliers or the homeowner has none in his toolbox. I often wonder if my own tools in the garage could be used against me, I have large pry bars, many large cable cutters, sawalls, gas torches, etc.

Me personally, I have no issue whatsoever with hyped up pricing (guns, ammo, gas, food, etc.), the market is what the market is. The buyer sets the market. Most consumer goods will return to normal supply and demand principals, once the hype and politics are removed. I do not begruge anyone (espcially when it does not impact me, I was ready) for using the market for their personal reason. Good example, remember gas in August 2008 was hovering around $3.75 gallon, March 2009, gas was $1.49 a gallon, supply and demand. Today its close to what was in 2008.

You brought back memories that I had as a kid, use to do the same. Bacon, the smell, the taste, and the occasional fall off in the ashes, those were good too.

I don't suspect the handgun prices to come down much, and I fear they will sky rocket higher than before here soon. Remember two things are driving gun prices, the threat of assault weapons ban and the large capacity clip thingy. With the threat of assault weapons ban greatly deminished, there is still a strong chance of a high capacity mag ban, thus handguns with high capacity mags will stay threatened for some time.

Not to hijack the thread, what happens to ammo that has been submerged in flooding? Could this have happened here?
