Curious.... public library?

Well yea, if I dont see a sign, a proper sign for a matter of fact, Im carrying in. Keep it concealed and if there is an issue I'll deal with it then. But my point is back in the day... 12-14 years ago, some Librarys were posted. Maybe its a jurisdictional thing. Example: Goodlettsville has a metro Library, but its in the city of Goodlettsville which was incorperated before Nashville, thus they have say so over what takes place in Goodlettsville. Im almost 95% sure that Library was posted at one time. Does that mean they all were.. I dont know. I'll bet my butt Hendersonville's probably are right now, might be worth a road trip. But my interpretation of 1359/1311 is if they were and now they still are, even if they arent correct and not an all doors then technically you cant carry in. But you have no way of knowing.... Kinda like the old law before 1359... you go to Lowes or Home Depot, they had small signs for a brief period of time and the automatic doors would hide them when they opened, thus you couldnt see them. Thats one reason we drafted 1359. But in short, I'll carry everywhere I can. -
I havent experienced any problems with the LCP yet...

Curious.... public library?

I have read the law thanks for the link.... Btw I was there in 93 consulting Harold Stockburger and other legislative members on gunowners behalf when we drew up the original legislation. Boy we have come light years since then huh? Lots of stuff in that first one I didnt agree with, it was more of a cluster to be honest, but we knew we had to start somewhere. On the library/govt building... I agree with you, its just the "substantial compliance" thing... I think its a loophole for the Govt. If they never had the right number of signs on all the doors it could be a problem. It needs to be clarified. I called and asked the most knowledgable person I know out at the State. She agreed with me that it was either a grey area or it was a simple no. I also emailed my old friend John Harris, he hasnt gotten back to me as of yet. My contact at the state is asking for a state legal opinion on it right now. The big thing is its better for citizens to not test it then be wrong. It may wind up being another AG opinion thing, for what good that does. Btw... I also agree with you in 39-17-1311 says you can carry in parks, playgrounds, civic centers... But the AG doesnt agree. Is the books in the library a recreation??? If so does the AG opinion apply? All too gray for me, IMHO.... It took me about 4-5 years of me bugging the state to get clarification in writing about guns in parks while going to the boat ramp... another used to be gray area. We solved that problem. My point was there may be a gray area we are overlooking. Me personally, I'll carry in the Library, but I feel I can articulate my position if need be if approached. Can the ordinary citizen, thats the question? Hey, if its concealed... and the law is unclear, its never going to be an issue. Right? -
so far its more reliable... seems better made, the action is smoother then a 3at out of the box. I shot mine a ton already with no problems at all. Im not big on a gun that has to be broke in, it shouldnt have left the factory if it had jamming issues in the first place.

Curious.... public library?

Im going to ck into it in the morning, but I think Im right. I have always had the attitude better safe then sorry. I know you used to not be able to, and I dont think 1359 changed that for the Govt buildings postings. I believe If I remember correctly, most were posted prior to 2000. If so they may not have to be posted like 1359 says ... meaning the same verbage and size requirments may not be required. I think the law says... "substantial compliance"... So whats that really mean? I think you may have to really look for a sign, and it may be on another door. I tell my students when it involves Govt buildings to be very careful, when in doubt just dont carry. -

isnt a public liberary a Govt building???? You cant carry in Metro Water... Fire Hall... so why a Metro library? I think Govt buildings were exempted from the verbage requirment if already posted. -
I actually live in this area. Honestly, the law says you can with appropriate backstop and you shooting in a safe manner. But...and I say.... but, all it takes is one nieghbor to call Metro... and if the wrong guy comes out, and thinks your shooting in a non safe manner, then its felony reckless endangerment. Btw... another bit of advice invite no one you dont trust to drink after, people will be showing up when your not home to shoot... and it will be major problem. And NEVER take any form of money for use of the range from those you do drink after, if you do you will be then operating a buisness without the proper codes and zoning approval... and they can really get nasty with you at that point. Yes its happened to me and others in the area in the past. Good luck!!!!

When bike riding and a dog attacks what can I do?
GLOCKMEISTER replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
In Tennessee we have a leash law... so if your in fear of your life from a Dog you can use deadly force as long as you are shooting in a responsible way and direction. On a bike... now thats another story, too many what ifs there. Shooting down at the pavement mean you will probably have one bounce up... so be careful of who is behind you. -
i had to put my Colt Magnum carry in the safe, retail has climbed to around $850- $1000 for them... so its not a carry gun, its been sent to the big square hole of no return...
-
oh yea no doubt, I have a 340... love it, but for some reason it bugs the stuff out of me to carry it on my ankle. The Ruger is perfect for this type of carry.

I have taken several classes with both Ron and John... never been a student of thiers, but they are probably the best at what they do in Middle Tennessee. Keep in mind Im saying that and consider myself somewhat of competition with them. Right now I think Ron's teaching out at Gunsite... he may be home soon. That in it's self should tell you what you need to know.

little 340 pd Smith and Wesson in 357 is the best choice, IMHO.... But I carry a Glock...

Hey guys, Im new to the board. Just wanted to stop in and say Hi. I'll be hanging out trying to figure out whats in the minds of Tennessee Gun Owners. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll do everything I can to help.

we saw them at the shotshow, and ordered them that first Sat morning. Our first order came in last week, we only got 5 guns, they were all gone in about 3 hours. I kept one, and have fired about 350 rounds with no problem. I cant say that for the first week of release for the 3at... want to see one I keep mine at the shop.

RUGER LCP, its the best gun on the market for the money right now... a little hard to get, but well worth it
-
good gun, but the one thing it really needs is night sights, so far FN has lied to me for the last year about when they will be available, last time I spoke with them they said November 2007... Im still waiting.

GUYS... Its not enough to just carry in Church, you and the staff have to have a PLAN to deal with a problem correctly. Our Church is in the midst of putting together such a plan.
