  1. its closer on the issue then the other one... we may not be able to overide this one.
  2. I tend to agree this is an uphill battle, but the way I see it if John Harris can fight this fight for 15 years, I think we all need to fight it as much as we for the next few days and weeks until we see this thru. Heres what I wrote the council: Dear Council Members, Let me start by introducing myself. My name is Phillip Arrington, I am a resident of Nashville and have lived here my whole life. My wife is Nancy Arrington. In the past I have been a local police officer for several different counties and municipalities. I am currently a firearms instructor and have been licensed as such by the State of Tennessee for 15 years. Both of us are business owners in Nashville. I am also a merchant, President of my Neighborhood Association, and some even call me a community leader. First I want to thank you all for your service on our cities council. However there is something that is bothering me greatly. As most of you know the state legislature overwhelmingly passed into law bills that will allow Handgun Permit holders the right to carry into State and local parks. This bill BL2009-489 prohibiting this, is scheduled for 1st reading on this Tuesday June 16th. I would like to point out this is a right given by our legislature.. and it is the will of the people... I know for a fact that peoples of every race, creed, and ethnic background in Nashville have carry permits and deserves to be protected from criminals. This isn't about where kids or children are playing its about preventing crime. Its about having the ability to protect those children. Permit holders have been carrying for 15 years all over the state including shopping malls and toy stores and have had no problems. How many crimes are committed against the public in parks right now? Would any of you feel safe walking or spending time in these parks alone? How about on that dark walking/running track early in the morning before work? How many robberies, rapes, and attacks occur there. How about golf courses? As a council member you need the correct information in front of you before making this decision. Will you ask for the stats from the Metro Nashville Police Dept of how many calls to service they have going to the Metro Parks? How many sex offenders and rapist have been arrested in our parks? You will need the factual data, not just a police chief spewing lies while playing politics. I'd also like to point out that "carry in parks" legislation has passed on the Federal and our State level... as well as many other states...so there is obviously a need for it, why prohibit the safety of Nashvillians by permitting this council bill to pass. Criminals are not going to pay any attention to any law, nor abide by this one. This will only make it easier for them to victimize our citizens. BILL NO. BL2009-489 (Maynard, Barry) An ordinance prohibiting handguns within Metropolitan Government parks, and amending Section 13.24.440 of the Metropolitan Code pertaining to the prohibition against firearms within parks. Also while your at it please ask the council sponsors to follow through and kill this illegal legislation on the same night. BILL NO. BL2009-483 (Tygard, Barry & others) An ordinance amending Chapter 7.08 of the Metropolitan Code to prohibit firearms in any establishment with an on-premises beer permit. In closing please don't take part in any attempt to deny us our rights that God, our Constitution, and our State Legislature have granted us as Tennesseans. VOTE NO on BL2009-489!!!! The people dont want it. Thank you for your time and attention, Phillip Arrington *********** Goodlettsville, Tn 37072 615-*******
  3. Well we knew it was going to happen, and here it is. This bill is scheduled for 1st reading on this Tuesday June 16th. The way I read the state law this doesn't have to go all the way Through the council it can be all over with one vote. Its imperative that you contact every member of the metro council about this bill. Use wording like "our rights given by our legislature".. and the "will of the people"... make them understand that peoples of every race, creed, and ethnic background in Nashville have carry permits and deserves to be protected from criminals. Point out that this isnt about "where kids or children are" its about "preventing crime". Its about having the ability to protect those children. Permit holders have been carrying for 15 years all over the state and have had little to no problems. Ask them how many crimes are committed against the public in parks right now? Would they feel safe walking or spending time in these parks alone? How many robberies, rapes, and attacks occur. Ask them to get the stats from the Metro Nashville Police Dept of how many calls to service they have going to the Metro Parks? How many sex offenders and rapist have been arrested in our parks? Point out that they need the factual data, not just a ignorant police chief spewing lies while playing politics. Point out that "carry in parks" legislation has passed on the Federal and our State level... as well as many other states...so there is obviously a need for it, why prohibit the safety of Nashvillians by permitting this council bill to pass. 4. the only one I have seen that was for sure correct was Jared's Jewelry stores.
  5. The sign actually has to say verbage like this... and I think it has to be 6x14 inches too. PURSUANT TO T.C.A. § 39-17-1359, THE OWNER/OPERATOR OF THIS PROPERTY HAS BANNED WEAPONS WITHIN THIS BUILDING OR THIS PORTION OF THIS BUILDING. A VIOLATION OF THIS PROHIBITION IS PUNISHABLE AS A CRIMINAL ACT UNDER STATE LAW AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO A FINE OF NOT MORE THAN $500
  6. If all it says is "no guns allowed"... then if you happen to not conceal correctly and someone sees it then all will come of it is your asked to leave. "no guns allowed" doesn't comply to tca 39-17-1359
  7. tru... I actually meant of hte council at large. We do have several more that support us.
  8. nope... Davids super powers are better then mine. Evidentally he likes the picture...
  9. damned picture.... I wish I had never looked in here now...
  10. looks like Metro is preparing to block carry in parks too...
  11. all i know is its time for Megan Barry and Jerry Maynard to hit the road. Charlie Tygard actually got caught up in something he didnt know anything about... so IMHO its time for him to go too. Tim Garretts seems to be our only friend in the council, at least on this issue. We shall see on the parks bill.
  12. even more of a reason to buy locally... when the local guys are run out of buisness what will you have then?
  13. they will be stickers anyway
  14. If all your wanting is a serial number check, if your down our way, bring it to us and we we'll check it out for you free of charge. You may want to leave it becasue it takes a few minutes to get it back from the local PD sometimes.
  15. +2.... why cant we just wait and see what happens. Someone should have said to the manager..."Well I'll enjoy this lunch as much as I can, becasue it will be my last trip here".... Im not so sure I believe her. Whats funny is they didnt in other states so why Tn?
  16. Sorry, but I have lobbied several bills thru the council... they can be very sneaky. However with them saying they are pulling it and it getting all this media I'd say were in good shape.... Btw Jason Mumpower thought all was good to go a few months back too... ???
  17. We shall see... I hope so, and hope this isnt a stallign tactic. This is the politically smart move after the politically stupid move they made before.
  18. get da used one...
  19. Im still getting responses back too... funny how most waited on Metro Legals Opinion before they decided.
  20. What sign... I didnt see no stinking sign.... Honestly this is the reason you CC. If you make a mistake the world doesnt know it.
  21. "The new state law does allow restaurant and bar owners to ban guns from their establishments, but some feel a proliferation of "No Guns" signs would cause tourists to think the city is full of firearms." No not really because they are probably from one of hte 37 states that allow carry in resturants.
  22. we should know something this friday.
  23. I tell everyone we do transfers for about it and offer the form.... I usually get a wierd look... and a few comments like..."when they start spending my money wisely I'll start..."
  24. ya know here's the thing I'd have to shoot the fire out of it to really see. IMHO its just a colt mustang.. as far as I can tell. Years ago we did all kinds of mods trying to get them to run right enough for carry use and never could. I had Jeff and Sam both work on some and they always seemed to haev their little quirks. I was excited when we saw them at the Shot Show... but honestly time will tell.
