1. In a shtf scenario I think I'd lean towards 9mm. Faster follow up shots due to decreased recoil, enough power to get the job done, and takes half as much powder to reload. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

...

Too bad you're not in Memphis. I've almost 300k sqft of air-conditioned empty warehouse with 20+ available dock doors, pallet jacks, and forklifts... And I could cut you a deal for short term storage and access. I'm guessing laundry or dishwashing detergent containing phosphates. ;) that stuff is near worth it's weight in gold now days to people who know what it is and is almost impossible to find. 3. I can play this game. Ratchet slipped while trying break one of the caliper bolts on my truck lose. I never realized that the fingernail goes almost all the way to the knuckle. Brake line fitting sliced through it and took out a good chunk. Took ages to grow back. And this was a lesson. Do not put knives in the sink, especially under plates, and doubly so a week after I've sharpened them. The woundseal it took to stop the bleeding made it look normal shaped, but that knife went through nail and flesh like butter and gave me a nice flat tip to my finger.
4. Just a quick note of approval from another satisfied customer. I used permethrin on my clothes last year after some research turned it up (didn't see the thread here) zero tick, chigger, or mosquito bites during my scouting and hunting the rest of the year. Love it, and just finished treating my clothes for this year. Also turned up a synthetic variant listed as an insecticide that's supposed to last for 45-60 days exposed outside. I'll be spraying the entire campsite at my hunting club, as well as my tree stands and blinds. We'll see how it does. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
5. Just for anyone who's interested, this site has two very informative reviews of different brakes. I think the set of photos in the second review tells the story. Tracking recoil patterns using a laser mounted to the gun shows what the effects actually are of each different brake. I'm always impressed when someone takes subjectivity out of the picture and finds a way to measure actual performance. http://www.multigunmedia.com

Brass

Last time I bought 9mm brass I paid $45 for 1k unprocessed, once fired, mixed headstamp, shipped. There's definitely a market. You can't tell once fired from 2+ times fired by looking at it. It's mostly a trust thing. Do you shoot store bought reloads, or only factory ammo? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
7. I have a stackon 24 gun safe that I bought from amazon with free prime shipping for <$500. The good: it's a safe. Sturdy, big, bolted to the floor in a closet. Secure enough that you'd need to be prepared and have some time if you wanted to get into it without the combination. I went with analog as I've had a few of the digital ones up at work where the electronics died after a few years and couldn't be replaced. The bad: it won't hold 24 long guns unless they're all some sort of minimalist stock variety with no scopes. I can fit 8 to 10 on each side of the divider comfortably. It doesn't come with a door storage kit, and if you want to put one on you need to be careful about clearance when you close the door. I don't need one so I'm perfectly happy with it. Overall it does what I need it to do. Buy bigger than you think you need. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
8. That's sort of what I'm trying to figure out. In my limited reloading experience I've seen the best accuracy in the lower 1/3 - 1/2 of the published load data in both my pistol and rifle loads. But almost all of the tests I've seen on bullet performance in ballistics gel have used loads at the upper end of the velocity range, and the few that have used lower velocities (3.5 inch barreled pistols) have had poor performance. Using the 124g bullet at 1200fps at 25 yards, if my calculator is correct, would have the bullet impact energy at ~355lb-ft. Moving up to 1400fps with the same scenario you get 473lb-ft. That's a 33% increase in impact energy for a 20% increase in muzzle velocity. So... How do I get the velocity needed to get the best bullet performance while maintaining the best possible accuracy? From what I've seen here and there, if I can load power pistol or blue dot to where I can get ~1600fps with a max load, I might be able to get 1400fps in that lower half of the load range where I get the best accuracy. I think I need to buy quickload and play around with some scenarios. I'm also wondering just how much seating depth affects velocity/pressure/accuracy in a case as small as a 9mm. 9. Struck out on powder over the weekend. No power pistol at the show. Thanks for the suggestions guys - looks like I just need to find powder and try it out. molonlabetn - I've only got about 300 rounds through it, but I've not had a single issue of any kind. My biggest complaint is the awful trigger. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
10. I know, it's been posted here and there in other forums. I've read them.   I have a CX4 Storm in 9mm, as well as a RI 1911 doublestack 9mm, and a SR9c. Working on putting together a nice general purpose 9mm load. All of those are rated for +P ammo.   Starting off with the storm. Loaded 4.5, 4.7, and 5.0 grains of unique (i had it on hand) using a motley collection of once fired brass and 124g Hornady XTP JHPs. The best group was hands down the 4.5 grain load. See the pic in the next post. I've got a chrono, but haven't ran the loads through it yet, but what i'm expecting from other posts from the internet elite (and Bill Gates personally verifies everything on the internet daily, so we all know it's legit) is that this load is going to be ~1000fps out of a 4.5 inch barrel and ~1150fps out of the 16" carbine.  The 5.0g load grouping was almost double the size at 25 yards. If you want pics i'll post them.  My question is - where do i go from here? I'd like more velocity, but i don't want to give up accuracy. I'm driving the 3 hours to Murfreesboro for the gun show tomorrow (later today) to see if i can pick up some power pistol or blue dot, as the internet commandos say those powders, along with VV 3n37, are the way to go.   Does anyone have any real world experience that can provide suggestions?
11. Made it out to Avery today. Still don't have what I'm looking for, and the guys there were saying that powder seems to be drying up lately. If anyone is looking, here's what they've got: Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
12. My understanding is that you only need small base dies if using brass that's been fired in a full auto. Loads for an AR10 really won't be any different than loads for a .308 bolt gun. I've had good results with 165g sierra game king bullets and varget powder loaded to mag length. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
13. Finally made it out to SW. Still no power pistol or blue dot, but if anyone else is looking for powder here's what they have.
14. A friend hit Avery yesterday. They had plenty of RL 17, along with a few lbs of titegroup, benchmark, retumbo, Lil 'gun, vv3n38 and a few others. Next time I'm out there I'll get a full list.
15. I don't even clock my hand loads until I've got the accuracy nailed down. I haven't finished working up my 55g load, but I'm running 2685 fps with 65g bullets out of a 20" barrel AR using 24.5g of varget. It'll do .75 inch 15 shot groups at 100 yards, when the Neanderthal behind the trigger remembers to take his time. Accuracy is more important than fps. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
16. Hit the show in Cordova today and was sorely disappointed. The guy there had 1lb of blue dot, and he would only sell it if I bought bullets and primers from him as well. Anyone know if any of the local shops have any power pistol, blue dot, or vv3n37? I'm going to hit sportsman's warehouse in Southhaven early next week and I'll post up their inventory after.
17. I've an rx7, an rx8, an integra, and a 3/4 ton gas Chevy that all need one thing or another done. And I'm in the market for a diesel 4x4 that would be nice to be able to have checked over prior to me handing over cash. So I'm hoping to find a good well rounded mechanic or shop. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
18. Like the subject says, in looking for a good mechanic or shop in or around Memphis. Bartlett would be a plus. I've always worked on my own vehicles - everything from basic maintenance to engine rebuilds (mostly rotaries), but life is making it to where I just don't have time to keep up with everything and while I don't like the idea of paying someone to do something that I can not only do myself but enjoy doing... I can't continue to let things slide. So... Anyone have any suggestions/experiences? Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
19.         More than just wiki, huh? I'm guessing you didn't even look at the article. 131 sources linked. Rather than just post them back up here, I'll give you a few that aren't in there. How about Snopes? http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/over75.asp . New York Times? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/14/health/policy/14panel.html?_r=0. Politifact? http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/article/2009/dec/18/politifact-lie-year-death-panels/. The only place I can find anyone even giving this blatant lie any credence is.... Fox News: http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=death+panel+fox+news So, I tell you what. You cite the section and paragraph of ACA where the mythical death panels reside. I can't in order to prove you wrong, becuase it isn't in there.   As for all the rest of your statements. I respect your opinion. You seem more researched than most. I still don't see any evidence - not even wiki - to back up the bulk of your statements. I am pretty amused that you defend Fox but bash Media Matters... Care to share why?
20.   Ah... specific objections. This, I will happily discuss.   I'm afraid you're going to have to be more specific on the extra services given to individuals and families that have never participated in any kind of healthcare. That's sort of what the ACA is - providing healthcare to everyone. Maybe I misunderstand you.   As for the mandate from the panel that will decide your fate. I can only assume here that you're talking about the mythical "Death Panel" that Sarah Palin made up. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_panel has a lot of good information on that, as well as links to all the sources that back it up. If that's NOT what you're talking about, then again, I'm afraid you'll need to be more specifc.   On the frontloading collections, cost, and penalties statement... Front-loading. The taxes and fees start immediately, but the subsidies are deferred. This, to me, is financial trickery, and it's rampant in business. I'm NOT a finance guy. I welcome anyone who can explain this crap to me in english. Sorry - until then I'm not qualified to debate it. It is and has been launched, and the whole government is running out of money. The long term projections show premiums are and will continue to be affordable, and the program reduces the federal deficit.   On the companies paying a fine rather than offer care. This statement, and another I saw from someone else along the lines of employers reducing employee hours to get around having to provide insurance.... People are gaming the system, and you're blaming the system rather than the people. Ok, so the employer pays the fine, which goes to fund other provisions of the ACA. the employee buys insurance from the state exchange. average cost where it's been rolled already is <$200 per month. I pay more than that for my employer provided insurance now. who's losing here?   The Nancy Pelosi statement is true, and applies both ways. How can you vote for, or against, a bill if you don't know what's in it? I personally think we should throw every politician in office currently out. They're all bought and paid for by lobbies, PACs, and special interest groups. But that's another discussion altogether.   I have a pdf of the passed bill open right now. i fully agree - with anything this size, and this level of complexity it takes more than one reading to comprehend. Hell - i could be completely wrong in some of my interpretations of what i've read. That's why i invite discussion. I just happen to prefer informed discussion rather than regurgitated political talking points.   Which brings me to the point of my earlier message. No, it's not a slam on Fox. It's a slam on people who blindly believe media reports (any and all - CNN, FOX, MSNBC, etc) without doing any reserach or knowing anything about the topic other than what they see on TV. Someone who is well dressed and on my favorite TV channel said it, so it must be true.   There are flaws in Obamacare. It's not perfect and I never said it was. But a lot of the hype and rhetoric i see and hear about it are just that. And unless we get rid of the noise, we can't get to fixing the real issues.
21. Mka-1919. Turkish made, AR_15 controls and styling 12-gauge for under $700. I'd tell you where to get them, but I'm getting laid off in December and I still don't have one myself. Me first. Unless you can figure it out for yourself.
22. I just don't get it. How many of you have read the "Obamacare" bill, and how many of you are knee-jerking based off of what Fox "News" and others tells you? Become self informed and stop depending on others to tell you how to think. In my opinion, and I've read the entire bill myself, the healthcare act lowers cost of service and the federal deficit both over the next 6 years while upgrading the US to the same standard of care as the rest of the civilized world. The only other thing I could ask of it is to eliminate federal subsidizing of lazy people who can't bother to look beyond media hype and their own pocketbooks. But we all know that will never happen. Mostly because it's in the current government's best interest to support ignorance rather than intelligence and society seems happy to support that ideal.
23. This... Has gotten ridiculous. OK. Here it is, this isn't in the bill of rights but it ought to be. The right to believe. Everyone has the right to believe anything they freaking want too. Period. End of story. What you do NOT have the right to is to force others to follow YOUR beliefs. If you believe you have the right to carry an AR into a coffee shop, you are more than welcome to have that belief. If the owner of that coffee shop believes they have the right to run their business without the intrusion of firearms or firearm politics then guess what? They have that right too. And it is THEIR place of business. You don't want people telling you what you can and cannot do in your home so respect their property in return. Here is what it boils down to, and I really wish everyone would just take a deep breath on this and CTFD. If you want your beliefs to be taken seriously then you have to take other people's beliefs just as seriously. If they ask you, and honestly this had to be the most polite and honest request I have EVER seen from a corporate entity, to not make their stores into a political soapbox, then you should respect that request. Just like you expect them to respect your right to defend yourself - which they are doing. I carry and I open carried in a Starbucks on the day of this OC demonstration. Didn't know it was going on at the time but... oh well... I didn't call attention to myself nor did I try to hide that I was carrying. No one said anything and no one gave me a second glace. There is a lot more to this right to belief. I'm not sure this is the forum, or the thread to get into it further. But it still stands. Respect the belief of others or have your own beliefs trampled in turn. I'm having another drink now.
24. I open carry now and then, especially during hunting season. I CC when around town on normal daily routine, but when in the woods easy access is what matters to me. And when I go into town I don't stop and swap weapons/holsters - in fact I don't even bother to take the compact with me. I've never had anyone look at me twice, and I've never had anyone stop me to talk about firearms either. I see both sides of the argument on cc vs oc. I think there's a time and place where each can be the better choice. And I agree that all gun owners should support all of our rights, whether we personally choose to take advantage of them or not. If you don't support it now, it may be gone tomorrow when you decide you do want it.
