New Surplus Pistol Powder from David (DLM37015)
div replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Picked up a jug of this Sunday from David. I'll be loading up some 9mm 124g XTPs in the next couple of weeks to run in pistols and carbine. I'll post up my results when I'm done. Thanks David! -
I had it happen multiple times to me when I was a teenager in the late 80s (the last time I hunted with black powder.) I don't know if it was the weather/moisture affecting the cap or powder, or some other issue. It didn't do it all of the time, but it happened more than once.
I respect every business owner for their decisions to put gun buster signs up. They make their businesses targets for all the bad guys to know they will not run into a good guy with a gun when they go in to rob the place. That means the I places do eat I can eat in safely and not really need to worry about anyone robbing it while I am there. I think that every time a person is in a business and it gets robbed while they are in there that has Gun Buster Sign up, that person needs to sue that business for failure to protect them or prevent them from protecting themselves while they were in their place of business and they suffered from PTSD after being put through the experience. ......................jmho
This is something I have been thinking about lately. A lot of businesses state they they are posting for "the safety of our customers and employees". If you are limiting my ability to defend myself, then what are you doing to protect me? If you post your premises for the purpose of safety, shouldn't you be doing something to ensure that your customers are actually protected by more than a sticker and wishful thinking?

I'm really mostly looking at inlines with 209 systems. I want a rifle that goes bang when I pull the trigger, not 3-10 seconds later. The long range accuracy is important to me. I know most people say that they take 95% of their deer within ~75 yards.... In the last three years I haven't taken one inside 150 and have had shots available out to 450+. I know a ML isn't going to do 450, but my favorite spot is pretty reliable for deer at 150-200. Seriously considering a Knight. I know they used to be top-notch but I don't know if the quality has been the same since they reopened.

I'm always looking for the best value for the buck, but I don't really have a set budget for this one. I'd like to stay under $500 for a complete package, but that's not a hard stop.

Looking for recommendations for a rifle for deer hunting this fall. I'm wanting something accurate out to ~200 yards and that uses 209 primers. Anything else I should look for?

And, I can prove they're invading..... :D
I've "heard" that .22 shot shells don't make enough noise to draw any attention in Bartlett. Nor do .223 rounds crimped onto a 22 cal pellet with a couple of grains of powder behind them. A scoped crossbow can also be fun for backyard pests. ;)
You can pick up a sweet one brand new for under 300!
Where? I've been keeping an eye out for a .17 Rem rifle for a while now and can't find any new, and used they are going for $700-$800, and never local.

You can pick up a weatherby vanguard s2 in 308 new for about $400. Good guns, factory sub-moa guarantee. I have one that I use for deer hunting and it shoots quite well. Had it out testing it at the 300 yard range yesterday, in fact. 10 shot group inside 3 inches.

The topic on shooting a BB gun in Murfreesboro got me curious, and since i didn't want to clutter that thread.... How many of you aren't allowed to shoot where you live? I'm in Bartlett, just outside of Memphis and it's not allowed in either city limits. Though, while digging I found that Bartlett's firearms code has a loophole I could drive a truck through. Anyone got a .17 Remington they want to sell me? SECTION 11-201. Air rifles, etc. 11-202. Discharge of firearms within the city limits prohibited. 11-203. Shooting ranges and discharge of rifles, etc. permitted under certain circumstances. 11-201. Air rifles, etc . (2) The penalty for the violation of the section shall be not less than five dollars ($5.00) nor more than fifty dollars ($50.00) for each offense, the fines to be imposed by the judge sitting in court. (Ord. #63-2, April 1963) 11-202. Discharge of firearms within the city limits prohibited . Dies anyone know if David has any of this powder left? -
I've been pondering buying the same annealer. Glad to hear good feedback from someone who has actually tried it.

No one wants their business to be used as a soapbox for someone else's political agenda. Target made the intelligent choice based off of the available options others pushed them into.

That's a hell of a deal. Have been looking at the Mega set but this is almost half the price.

Hmmm... Don't know how I missed this one. I've been in the electronics repair industry for almost 20 years now. Started off as a hobby when I was a kid, happened into a job doing it. Spent a lot of time doing laptops and cell phones. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

You can get a good selection of rifle powder here in Memphis. Pistol is rare though. Avery has had 1lb of AA9 on the shelf for 2 weeks. I found a pound of unique at SW tucked behind all the other powder last week (and bought it). That's all I've seen. I think David and Sam have some, but I seem to have a hard time getting responses and I don't think they make it out towards Memphis much.

+1 on the ammo. I have a 20" bull barrel franken-AR that I built. First time out I got 5" groups at 100yards with Walmart federal 100pack 55g ammo. Was pretty unhappy. Set up a ladder of handloads with 65g gamekings and varget and my best group was 1". Swapped to w748 and am getting 3/4". All with milspec trigger and a leadsled. I'm now hunting for good deals on a better trigger and bags. Ammo can make a HUGE difference. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Ok, so yesterday I shot exactly 50 more reloads. These would have been numbers 26-75. Every one of them worked flawlessly! I love my Glock even more and may love reloading as much as shooting. However, I want to ask some advice here. I am using the Lee Perfect Powder Measure and also tried the Pro Autodisk with adjustable charging bar. Is it just something that you have to "get good at" or is there something wrong here? Both of the measures are completely unreliable. I mean +- 2-3 grains. Not .2-.3 grains, 2 to 3 entire grains. I feel like it is because 700-X is a flake powder. I'd really like to try a really good ball powder for 9mm. Recommendations for this? I know finding stuff right now is tough but maybe I'll luck out. I threw the stuff up for sale or trade here: http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/79278-29lbs-imr-700-x-trade-for-other-9mm-powder/?p=1156251 Sometimes the Pro Autodisk would measure about 3 or 4 loads consistently, but then it would drop down to a charge under a grain for a few charges. I have been tapping each powder measure this way and that at all different steps, I just think I dislike the flake powder.
I had a similar problem with my lnl-ap using unique to load 9mm. I cleaned and cleaned the powder measure to no effect. What seems to have helped the most was a few shots of graphite in the powder and then just running a couple hundred drops dumping each back into the measure. It now drops unique (a large flake powder) at +- .2 grains. Ball powders drop spot on for me. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

I've been wanting to build an ar10 for a while now and have run across what looks to be a good deal on an MATEN upper and lower set that I'm seriously considering. Does anyone here have any experience with this particular platform and any feedback on using it for a build? What I've found from digging around is pretty positive, but there isn't a lot of hands-on feedback that I've seen.

The independent review of the current version of truecrypt found no issues or backdoors. I'm really leaning towards the first scenario MacGyver outlined. The devs moved on, and since they won't be supporting it any longer there will be no more bug fixes. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Hmm... I'm actually in the process of making my own from some leather purchased on sale at tandy, but I may have to look into the beltman belts based on the feedback here.
And the other big No-No with 1911's is dropping the slide on a loaded chamber. This will ruin an extractor pretty quickly as well. Sometimes you can tune it back up but more often it requires a new extractor and slide stop to fix the cycling issues.
I did not know this. I started doing this recently after noticing that I was getting some pretty severe bullet set-back on my self defense carry rounds (hornady critical defense) from the rounds being rechambered into the pistol after practice sessions.
when I can't find stuff I have stashed, after lengthy searches I always seem to find it in the last place I look,
I would suspect everyone finds things in the last place we look, as we tend to stop looking when we find it. I have 4 boxes of Winchester superX .22 that I put "somewhere safe" 2 years ago that I still can't find. Maybe one day I'll find some in stock somewhere and buy more so I can find my stash.
