Don't have an SP-01, but I've had a P-01 for about a year.  It is my main gun, have fired a bunch of rounds through it (factory and reloads) and have never had a failure or problem of any kind.
  2. Those are ummmm...some "ambitious" prices.  Yeah.  I'll go with that.
  3. I'm jealous...not only do you get to build guitars for a living, but you have time to reload too.  My loading bench is a mess and is beginning to gather a layer of dust because I haven't had time to do any loading lately.  Really sucks because I've finally gotten my punches and dies for my LAM II and I'm itching to get it up and running.  Oh well...maybe next weekend...

I have a P-01 and it is hands down my favorite gun that I have ever shot, so I'd say you can't go wrong with a CZ.  I do not have any experience with the clones.  While this is completely second hand (like I said, I have no experience with the clones), I have seen some complaints about EAA customer service.  It could just be a case where the disgruntled folks are screaming more loudly than the happy folks are, but the manufacturer's willingness to stand behind their product and manner in which they do so is part of the equation that I would consider.
  5. I put a Ruger SR22 pistol on layaway early last year.  Their site listed them as sold out, then listed as in stock (which is when I started my layaway).  They were listed as out of stock when I paid mine off and it arrived at my FFL shortly thereafter.  I currently have a CZ P-01 on layaway that has been in and out of stock since the insanity began (the price also jumped almost $50 and then went back down $20 between the time I looked at them and put one on layaway...was mid-500s when I looked, 590-something when I put mine on layaway, then 570-something when I looked again about a week later).  I'm going to be a bit upset if my gun doesn't ship next week after I finish paying for it.   I'm pretty sure they reserve the gun for you once the money for the layaway is processed, otherwise I'm sure we'd hear complaints that someone paid their gun off but had to wait until it was in stock again for it to ship.
  6. I've got a small rotary tumbler that I use and it works pretty well for the small amount of cleaning I do. The tumbler is a small one I got from Harbor Freight for about $30 and I run between 80 to 100 9mm through it at a time. I run them first for about an hour with water, lemishine, and a dash of dish soap then spread them out to dry. Later in the day I'll run them for about an hour with some corn cob and nufinish wax. They come out looking new. It works pretty well for me...but I'm only cleaning 200-300 cases on a Saturday and Sunday at the most.
  7. Shouldn't a good bench be designed to multi-task?
  8. I agree...the grip is a bit on the smaller side. I put the larger grip on and larger base plate on the mags and it works okay. I would like the grip to be a bit larger but it works for me. I'm still fairly new to the sport so this may be totally misguided, but I wonder what the possiblity of a larger grip being produced in the future either by Ruger or as an aftermarket. Not sure how the ergos would work but it would be a good idea as it would make the gun more attractive to those who are turned off by the smaller grip as it is currently offered.
  9. I got a chance to shot my new Ruger SR22 yesterday for the first time. Worked flawlessly with different ammo (started with cci mini mags, then winchester white box hollow points). I opted for this one over one of the Marks because it more closely resembles my other pistols in layout and is much easier to strip and clean than the marks.
  10. Thanks for the comments/suggestions...I'll have to check out a 5906 Sonny. I keep going back and forth between all of them. As some of you have noted, the shotgun is what is missing...but then I think "well, I don't have a revolver and those Model 10s look to be a pretty good price for a pretty good firearm." Decisions decisions. Found out this afternoon that some unexpected financial turbulence might be heading my way so it looks like I'll have longer to decide which to go for first.
  11. Well put. I guess I should have specified that the CZ would be a galactic step up from the HP. I do like the HP for what it is (except for the breakdown to give it a good cleaning...man what a pain in the tail). I have dreams of the CZ P01 though...which kind of worries me a bit
  12. Hehehe...I'll put that on my list. It might take a few years for me to scrape together the money for mine and yours though...unless we can pass the collection plate around for some donations.
  13. Good morning everyone. I'm relatively new to firearms world but have got the "gun fever" as my wife says. There are three guns that are next on my want list and I'm trying to decide which I should go for first since I can't get them all at once. I currently have a Mosin 91/30, a CZ 82, and a Hi Point C9, with a Ruger SR22 pistol on the way. The Hi Point was my first purchase (I couldn't justify dropping a large sum of money on a gun before I knew if shooting was something I would enjoy). I got the Mosin and CZ becaues they're cool guns, are affordable, and I'm a historian so the historical aspects appeal to me as well. Part of this is home defense but mostly I enjoy going to ranges with the family and shooting for fun. My next purchases will be for pretty much the same purposes...home defense and making things go bang and ping. I do not carry right now because 99.9% of the time I'm home where the guns are, or I'm places where guns are prohibited. If and when I did carry it would probably be the CZ that I already have. I have considered hunting but probably wouldn't start until some point next year because I've just go too much going on right now to get into it. So with that being said, here are the three firearms that I hope in some order will be my next purchases... 1. CZ P01. I love the look and feel of the gun and pretty much every review I've seen of it is very positive. I want it because it is a step up from my Hi Point (higher magazine capacity, more reliable) and because it is a sweet gun. As far as I'm concerned that last point is enough to justify getting it. 2. Smith & Wesson model 10. I want this one because I would like a revolver and this one, along with the CZ P01 would be good to keep handy around the house for home defense. I've looked at a lot of reviews of various revolvers and have seen some horror stories except for the Smiths. I don't want a snubby, Buds has these for $269, and...well they're just a sweet gun. 3. Remington 870 or Mossberg 500. I'd like a shotgun mainly for skeet. It would also be comforting to know it was there for home defense (a comment I read somewhere on this forum summed it up nicely "no one in their right mind wants to argue with a shotgun"). If I get into hunting it would probably be turkey so this would be the gun I would need for it. So, if you were looking mainly for a shooting for fun/home defense gun to add to your collection, which would you rather get first?
  14. Wideners in Johnson City has them for a pretty good price w/holster & two magazines. They only have left handed holsters now but I'm not interested so much in the holster...the extra mag is a nice bonus. I ordered one but haven't had a chance to go pick it up yet so I can't speak for the condition of the finish. From the examples other posters have provided a flawed finish can be greatly improved upon and everything I've read about them is that they are excellent as far as functionality is concerned. Other sources you might consider are gunbroker.com. There are several listed with pictures so you can sort of handpick I guess but the prices are higher and then there is shipping and FFL if necessary. Cdnn.com has them listed in their catalog cheaper but they only come with 1 mag and again there is shipping (plus I don't know if they have any left). Can't wait to pick mine up and take it for a spin at the range.
  15. I've got one on layaway. I wanted to lay claim to one and lock in the price while not having all the cash at the moment to buy it outright. I hop to have it in my eager hands by the enf of the month. I had been looking at getting a 22/45 soon. I like hammer fired and liked the look of the Walther but have seen too many stories about problems with them. After seeing some positive reviews of the SR22 I went with that instead of the 22/45. My guess is that, based on the praise I've seen of the 22/45, the SR22 probably won't match it for accuracy but it is closer in style/layout to my others and looks much much easier to take down and clean than the 22/45. Looking forward to hearing how yours does.
