  1. Of course after they take semi autos then they will want bolt guns.... If you are looking for something not on an eventual ban list then you are looking at sling shots. Get an AR.
  2. Confirm with seller that it truly is the older spec rifle, I got one of the mp15T that was supposed to come with the troy rail and 1/8 barrel. It arrived as a 1/9 barrel with a crappy s&w branded rail that was made by utg. Beware some sellers are using the old literature...
  3. Will your sport do this :yum: That's a 4 shot group 100yd from my 260 Rem AR, my 223/5.56 is more accurate consistently lol. My old 5r sport though will shoot them not far off that group, amazing little rifle for the price.
  4. To me these rifles are made to be relied upon to provide protection for me and my family (well and hunting and target shooting secondarily). I'll take a forward assist please, thank you. Dust cover not so vital, for home defense. As a veteran I have used the forward assist, as a hunter I have used the forward assist. On a car I don't use my air bags often, but I can appreciate the fact they are there. Sport is a great rifle, as stated new one is not 5r, is not melonite coated. It's not near the deal it used to be. To me its value was you could get it and learn the rifle, get a good reliable upper and keep the 5r for target shooting, now it's just another cheap upper. I am up to counting on two hands the number of 'black rifles' I have now, the Daniel defense m4v4 is far and away the best I have owned or held, it's worth saving the money for. And no it is not the most accurate and not the flashiest but it truly is the sum of all of its great parts. In the end when you have upgraded your sport you probably could have bought it to begin with for about the same price.... As for learning the ins and outs of the ar, YouTube and a couple of punches and a ten year old could build one, they are like grown up Lego's.

    DoubleStar AR

With a 1/9 twist it will like the lighter bullets stay with 69gr and below. (Most likely 50-55gr). Shoot the snot out of it....

    308 AR barrels

They had a couple dozen in stock when I ordered mine, took about a week after sending the check to arrive. I think those are on a special price until they sell them out, normally they are more costly than that. The barrels are very nice, accurate, clean easily. Only issue I have is, the .308 barrel wasn't dimpled or recessed for gas block but that isn't a big deal, also requires an Armalite gas tube as its cut longer than the dpms pattern tube (this was a little difficult to source). They also make the barrels for Larue.

    308 AR barrels

I just picked up a Lothar Walther barrel from the factory, got one in .223 and .308. My .223 is shooting sub .5 MOA groups the .308 I have stuck on a dpms reciever and free float tube and its shooting better than me. 20" 1/10 twist LW50 stainless supposedly wears better than most stainless. Got mine with matched bolt for $369, they call it a varmint tactical.. If I went with a different barrel I would consider a Lilja.
  8. The temperature and humidity of where you are going does need to factored in. I can get great winter loads with RL15 for 223 but when the temps get really hot it's not the best (I have seen almost 100fps of variance, of course that's early morning desert to mid day but....), that's one reason varget is popular or at least one reason it's popular with me. It's very consistent regardless of temp, its not the best powder for my 260 or my 308 or my 223 (or my 22-250 for that matter) but when you factor in weather..... It's very difficult to beat. Depending on where you are going the temp can vary a lot more than TN from morning to mid day to evening. If you are reloading quite a few rounds make sure you are staying in the same lot number of powder (can be a pretty big deviation from lot to lot also).
  9. That's some fine shooting. It's a center hit.
  10. Gen4 19 FDE perfect Gen4 20 if I could rate it better than perfect I would.
  11. I did this and returned pretty quickly when I realized when reloading 45gr powder vs 24gr. powder and more expensive projectiles added up quickly..... Still love my .308 (and that's a nice looking one).
  12. Someone in tricities has a Cobb in 30/06 they used to shoot at Cherokee (haven't seen it in a long time). A LGS also had a Cobb in .308 for sale a few months back. Nice rifles think they are out of business now though maybe.
  13. Without a doubt my 226 and even my 228 is a more accurate gun than my glocks. In answer to your question, in my younger days I used to shoot my python and my old smiths. Those now just sit in the safe well oiled. Maybe I need to get them out and play some more. I didn't give the DAK much time, I would love to run across a 226 with one to play with and form another opinion.
  14. My Sparq has performed very well on both 5.56 and .308. I would purchase again.
  15. Just the fact you have several thousand rounds some years back shouldn't factor in much. You basically have familiarity with the weapon and maybe some muscle memory, it will take continued training as you well know. Biggest downfall of the Sig (other than the obvious posted already), with the Sig you are going to be training two trigger pulls most likely. A DA then a SA or the DAK trigger which is still two pulls a heavy first followed by a heavier reset, my sigs are converted to DAO and to have a reliable DAO trigger pull on a sig its going to be somewhat heavy ( it certainly won't be a 3.5 lb ghost trigger). The dak trigger takes practice to even determine if you Ike IMO had one in a 220 never could get comfortable with it. So going forward easier to train on a glock, one trigger pull vs two. This was the reasoning I used to pry the 228 from my wife and convince her to use the glock 19. Still love my sigs but you have to give the ugly pistols the nod.
  16. Very interested in this build, I debated the caliber before deciding to go with another vanilla 260 rem. Keep us up to date on the progress and the results. Never used a Brux barrel, bug holes.com is a great place to find a barrel though. Mine will be built around a Bartlein 6.5 blank (second on the list would be a rock creek and if I decided to go the button rifle route I would give Dan Lilja a call.). My build is just waiting on me to finally decide to finish my long range AR10 (was very close to going Lilja on it with zero wait, Bartlein was forever wait and went Lothar Walther instead.)
  17. Having personally stripped both pistols to the frame I can say with 100% certainty that the glock is easier to work on lol. The inner workings of the sig is like a fine timepiece... That's both good and bad. My sig has had thousands of rounds through it and internally it shows some wear. My glocks are every bit as accurate, much simpler to work on. My gen2 glock 20 had countless very hot 10mm rounds when I sold it, it looked new internally and somewhat externally. Love the 228 and 226, if I only had to have one to carry around post apocalypse give me the glock. I am not nearly as big fan of the gen2 as most of the world apparently, prefer gen 3 and 4 and 4 actually over 3.
  18. These were in fact very early samples, we were all very excited to try them out. I had a Sig 556 that we referred to as "the barn gun" because after many thousands of rounds that's about all you could hit with it, I was considering replacing it with the sr. I have used Ruger cs before without issue (10/22 breakdown with severe feeding issues that they fixed pretty timely).
  19. It very well could have been the small sample size, if they all were shooting 2" groups then the internet would tell that tale.  The troubling part was the friend who sent his back to Ruger (to say it was shooting 2" was an exaggeration it was on the upper end of the 2" range and that was with multiple shooters off a bench); to send it back and say its fine nothing to see here irked me somewhat.   Different rifles shoot different bullets well.... maybe that one sample doesnt like a 69gr bullet.   Comparative story I sent a DD M4V4 back because it ejected the shells at 5 oclock instead of 3 o clock lol (hey I'm left handed...).  Instead of calling me crazy it was back in a week ejecting shells at 3 oclock and an apology :)
  20. I am strongly considering changing out the barrel on my 223 10PC to a 260 rem the only thing holding me back is the action and barrel are cerakoted OD green and I hate to lose that investment (well and I hate to break up a combo that is shooting sub .5 MOA lol.
  21. Probably the only reason I would build a custom off of a 700 action is for resale when I am done with it, custom savage's for some reason dont hold resale very well at least not like the remington action ones (of course there is a bigger initial investment also with the rem to offset that).   Honestly I have always been a Remington man and my safe still holds no fewer than 7, I will say though when I go to get my next rifle (another 260 Rem) it will be a Savage.   The Savage 10PC completely changed my opinion on bolt guns lol.
  22. I would look at a Savage 10PC (precision carbine)in 308, the accustock will let you use your sling. The heavy contour barrel is still much lighter than the remington barrel and overall weighs right at 8lbs. Unlike the remington the accustock and accutrigger will pass for precision work right out of the box (SPS stock is a hot pile of garbage and the xmark trigger is close behind). I still think if I was going to heavily customize a rifle I would go with a remington action, out of the box the 10PC shoots better than pretty much anything I have ever pulled the trigger on (I have it in .223 and .308 now...)
  23. I would skip both and get a Daniel Defense, save for a Larue or roll my own; between those two I would take the Colt and never look back.  The SR's I have shot, all shot very smooth but were embarrassing at the 100m and 200m ranges; granted my sample size is very small as I only know 2 people with them and they were very early samples.  By embarrassing neither one broke 2" at  100m with black hills ammo off a bench and the fact they was shooting with friends who had some pretty high end varmint AR's exacerbated the perception of its inaccuracy.  The one friend was happy with his, the other sent his off to Ruger where it was returned a few weeks later with a note that said it was perfectly fine.  He sold his post Newtown.   They both are fine rifles, the SR with its piston will probably run with less need for cleaning, the Colt will probably shoot circles around it (from an accuracy standpoint) as long as its wet, it will require more attention to detail on the cleaning side.
  24. Not for me.  I prefer my weapons a little less cartoony.
  25. Actually a 1-9 twist is nice the more I think about it although it depends... The 1-9 is nice for lighter bullets that I can share with my 22-250. 1-7 won't let you use those light weight varmint bullets to their fullest potential. For 'yotes I like 75gr+ also quite effective for deer. 1-9 doesn't perform up to it's potential with these bullets. 1-8 twist is the best of both worlds it limits with the sub 40gr bullets but I can shoot as heavy as they make.
