  1. I just picked up another Ruger Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor for $399 at cabelas yesterday. This is my 3rd one (two sons) and they shoot very close to the ruger precision I have $1400 in. I have hit with the predators at 1100 and 1200 on several occasions and less than 1000 is basically childs play. I also shoot 260rem and have a swede. I personally would take the Creedmoor over all of them just for the ease of ammo availability when I dont feel like reloading. Throw the ease of buying ammo out and I prefer the 260 in my mind its just an inherently accurate cartridge (or maybe its just my 260rem guns are more accurate than the others) and the ability to make brass from .308 ,.243 7mm/08 etc.... The swede is a fine cartridge and can certainly be loaded up to be a great distance shooter, ammo availability and expensive brass is its downfall imo. I would take any of them over a .308 and I own my fair share of those also. For economical <$400 you cant beat the ruger predator in 6.5 creedmoor but I will give an honorable mention to the Howa 1500 in 6.5CM for less than $600 its a lot of rifle.
  2. I own a DD M4V4, have owned multiple colt's and currently still own a complete BCM rifle and a Noveske upper, the cheap smiths will shoot with any of them. I think the fit and finish of the DD is superior but I wouldnt say the same for the colts I have owned or the BCM. The Noveske is an amazing upper shoots lights out and very accurate, but I could buy almost three smiths at their current cost for what I paid for it. The smith is easily as reliable as any of these rifles and in some cases more accurate (i'm looking at you Colt).
  3. S&W Sport II's are getting cheap also I picked up two this week one in Elizabethton for $529 and one in Kingsport for $499. I have custom AR's that I have built for much much more money. The cheapo smiths though have stood the test of time for me for reliability and reasonable accuracy, if the price keeps dropping I will probably keep buying more.... That said I did buy a PSA lower and a Troy upper from primary arms for $429 (its $449 now) the M-Lok and sights are a big chunk of that $429 heck of a deal (it comes with a BCG but will get one of the premium PSA's that I have lying around).
  4. I requested my records some time back from NPRC and received basically my enlistment papers and a form 1070/615 which is a record of discharge from USNR, still a pretty vague document. A DD214 was not issued because active service was less than 90 days.
  5. So... Just lurking through as usual and have a question. If you was a reservist in say the 1990s will your military handgun training that all members receive suffice for the class/range portion? Reservists typically get a dd 256 instead of a dd 214, the dd 256 is a pretty vague document that just basically states you were honorably discharged no where on it does it state your qualifications or classes. As trivial as it seems the biggest reason keeping me from getting my hcp is the time involved in the class (super busy schedule and a cheap bastard). I would probably start the ball rolling asap if this was the case. (this was a double post I posted to a reply in the 2A forum).

  7. If you sell the ubr send me a pm, I have a fondness for them and a donor rifle just waiting...
  8. I pretty much think there is a standard .308 AR and Armalite validated that when they made a model that would accept PMAGS on the SR25/DPMS pattern and S&W put an exclamation point on it.   I realize others are still making different patterns but the vast majority of these are under this pattern.   Odd man out is the Rock River/Old Bushmaster patent that uses FAL mags.     On topic I am very excited about this as I need another lower and look very forward to some blem sales in the future lol.
  9. Although I am not a huge XD fan I am a fan of that little .45 I have a friend with one and I am truly envious.
  10. HS precision stock and your choice of triggers are best starting points imo.
  11. My 700 sps tactical 308 honestly didn't shoot as good as my custom AR10. 700 will need new stock and trigger off the bat if you want to get serious about shooting distance with it. Savage with accustock and accutrigger is cheaper with better results if you aren't going custom. I took the money I was going to put in some custom work on one of my 700s and got a lothar walther barrel for my AR10. Results have been stellar. As for shooting 1k the 308 can get there, I own a 260 and 300wm also and they make the job easier, 260 rem is IMO the perfect cartridge. (260 in AR is difficult to load VLD bullets in a mag, 308 isn't as much a challenge to load unless you are going with the berger VLD's
  12. Cheap used AR, spend extra as it allows on extra bcg and other parts. Rounds readily available, accurate, light, and a proven effective round against enemy combatants.
  13. I am a big fan of Lothar-Walther and Lilja. If I was looking for another AR barrel that would be my first two calls.
  14. My 10" bull I would just carry (it was more accurate than most .22 rifles lol).  I always holstered the Govt. models, mine went on pretty much every hunting trip I ever went on back then (it provided the finishing shot on tons of critters lol).
  15. I hunted pretty much everything with my old MKII government, squirrels, rabbits, a couple of raccoons, a possum that got in the house once, loads of groundhogs.  I mostly shoot an old Browning Challenger III now.  I still think the Ruger MKIII is probably still the go to new .22 pistol, personally though from all of the ones I have owned and or shot none of them could hold a candle to the MKII's that I owned.  My suggestion to someone buying unless it just has to be new then look for an old MKII government or if you want a real nail driver look for a MKII 10" bull.
  16. Looks like a crack to me.
  17. One of my 1911's had some FTF issues and a magazine catch was the quick easy fix.   EGW mag catch had more tension and held the mag up tighter.  Have fired literally thousands upon thousands of rounds through it with no issues since.   Just picked up a MetroArms American Classic II 1911 to goof around with and that is a known issue with it also, havent shot it much yet but probably will go ahead and get an EGW mag catch for it before I get serious about messing with it.
  18. Savage agreed to fill back orders to all distributors so they came back in stock this week at most of the usual places, of course they sold out about as fast.  Mine came from GrabaGun my friend ordered one from there as well and got a second from Lanbo's armory.  From talking with the wholesalers they will trickle in over the next couple of weeks then they should be gone forever... well unless Savage decides to change their mind again.  For the record my friends both shoot just like mine, about .5 MOA.  At least as accurate as my 700 action with Krieger barrel 308 (for $438... happy and sick at the same time lol).   I am actively looking for a second, if I do then I will save the 308 barrel for you Dolomite.
  19. Although its way to heavy to hunt with, I took delivery of my Savage 10TR 308.  For the money its really impossible to beat, I intended to rebarrel it right away in 260.  It shot three five shot groups at 200m less than an inch..... Will probably just buy another for the 260.   5R rifled heavy barrel Accutrigger Accustock threaded barrel Tactical bolt handle Detachable box magazine EGW base   $438 shipped..... This is an amazing deal.  Clean it, stick a scope on it and shoot. Its basically the same thing as a FCP-SR without the paint job, with a better bolt handle for $600+ less.
  20. http://grabagun.com/savage-10tr-308win-24-mtt-thrd-bbl-syn.html Back in stock for probably a very brief moment.. No better savage 308 deal.
  21. Savage 10 TR if you can find it....
  22. Naaa I work in a level 1 trauma center and over the years I personally have talked with patients that would have been dead had a hipoint not misfired. Only other gun I have heard that from is Jennings.... Read what you want on the Internet, have yet to hear someone in my ER say "whew glad that glock/sig/colt misfired/jammed". That's not snobbery, that's using the very small sample I have seen and deduced there most likely not as reliable as my Glock (which happens to be ugly as mud also). Not a lot of police departments using hipoints, I am sure they would love the 4:1+ cost ratio they would save. You shouldnt clearance shop for a child car safety seat or a motorcycle helmet also, probably some great deals to be had but when it's your life or your loved ones; should price be the driving factor? You should probably buy the best you can reasonably afford without getting into financial difficulty. Sorry this thread has steered off direction.
  23. More people have met their maker from Rossi's, Charters, HiPoints, etc than brand names combined.  However I wouldnt trust my life to those, the main thing is to buy what you feel comfortable with from BOTH a cost and a trust standpoint.      AR not much different than pistols, there are quality differences, most cases you do get what you pay for.
  24. I have been looking for a donor rifle for a Savage long range predator hunting rifle for quite awhile now.  Early in the spring, Savage released a model known as the Savage 10 TR at a ridiculous price <$500 this was built as a law enforcement only model.     It features   Accustock Accutrigger 5r 24" heavy threaded barrel Tactical bolt knob Full rail for scope Detachable Box magazine   Apparently once these are gone this time thats it.  The 20" version is already gone apparently.   Several distributors have a couple in stock I got mine at Grabagun for less than $440 shipped.  I would expect stock to last a day or less so if interested may want to act sooner than later.
  25. I dont understand the argument a 20g shotgun is easier to maneuver around a house than a 16" barrel AR (no pistol grip ninja's either...).  As for loud you havent lived until you have shot a .357 inside (and yes I have fired an AR indoors).  In a home invasion some hearing loss will be the least of my worries.   Think of it this way if I was on one end of your house and you was on the other and you had the choice to arm me with either a judge or an AR and you take the other.   Can you honestly with a straight face say you would choose the Judge over the AR?  Whats to stop a home invader from arming himself with an AR?     Bottom line with the right ammo an AR is a very effective home defense weapon.  Pistols are for fighting your way to your rifle.
