  1. What he said. Monster Cable IS a scam, and those who don't know better continue to fall for it. They are a complete ripoff.  And there IS definitely a difference between low-end and high-end TV's. All you have to do is stand back about 10' from the wall of TV's at any electronics retailer. You should see a clear difference in the picture qualities.    I spent a good amount of time in the stores, trying to adjust the pictures on some of the lower-end models. It just wasn't cutting it. Once I got up to the $400 range, I was beginning to find some options I could tolerate for a bedroom TV. The thing is, not everyone has been spoiled by years of high-end TV's, so the picture quality on the low-end TV's are just fine, if not great.
  2. It's a great place to go if you're interested in putting several items in your hand before making a purchase. It's a great place to go if you're looking for items that aren't as easily found in other places. It's not a good place to go if you're expecting to find yard sale prices.    More often that not, I am a price shopper. I generally find it well worth the $10 to make sure I REALLY want something before I buy it online. The problem is, some people are under the impression gun shows were created as some type of swap-o-rama, where you should be able to find everyone giving everything away for pennies on the dollar. While there are always those who price their items above retail, I never have a problem finding those who are selling at "fair" prices. I've even found some great deals at below retail.  Until someone opens a local retail store that allows me the opportunity to put as many items in my hand as some of the local gun shows, I'll gladly blow $10 if I'm in the market for something.
  3. I went ahead and bought this one.    http://www.walmart.com/ip/RCA-42-LED42C45RQ-Class-LED-1080p-60Hz-3.4-ultra-slim-HDTV/21097470   It had some decent reviews, and Best Buy is selling the exact TV for $459. If it's a decent TV, I'd say that's a good deal.

  5. While browsing for a TV at my local Wally World, the associate told me that if I found a TV today that was going to be part of the Black Friday sale and put it on layaway, Wal-Mart would give me the Black Friday price if I picked it up after Black Friday. Does anyone know this to be accurate?
  6. I guess I'm too picky. Just got back from looking at TV's, and the picture quality on just about everything under around $400 is blah. I guess I can't be too surprised. I've been spoiled by high-end TV's for too many years. Looks like I'm going to find a great deal, or increase my budget.
  7. Some of what you say is true, but as far as gun shows in our area, it's the best gun show in Middle Tennessee.
  8.   It's $8 or $10.   Here's a coupon. http://www.gunshows-usa.com/RK%20$1%20Coupon.htm
  9. My last few TV's have been $1500+, but we are looking for a cheaper ($300+/-) for the bedroom. I'd prefer 39"-40", LED, 1080p, 120Hz (will settle for 60Hz). I'd love a Smart TV, but not many of those in our price range.    Anyone had any luck with the cheaper TVs? One that you didn't regret?
  10. Wal-Mart doesn't count. We can thank the slave labor in the Chinese sweat shops for that.
  11. My first visit to Gander Mountain was my last. Gander stays in business for much of the same reasons as The Outpost Armory and Franklin Gun Shop. They generally have an impressive inventory, and it seems there's never a shortage of buyers who are willing and able to spend more money than necessary. Admittedly, I'm not a frequent visitor of the three locations I've mentioned, but I don't recall seeing much of anything in any of them that I couldn't easily find cheaper, even locally. I've always been willing to pay a premium for hard to find items, but I can't bring myself to do the same for something that can be found at most other local and online retailers.
  12. I met and visited with Ken at the last Murfreesboro show. He's a super nice guy.
  13. That's true, but I find that to be the case at many retail stores. I'm the type that does my research before I step foot in the store, so I am able to limit my interaction with the employees.
  14. What did you hit? The ICC bumper on a semi trailer?
  15. Ain't that the truth. No only that, but as we were being told our economy was a the verge of a complete meltdown and no one had any money to spend, you still couldn't find a parking space at the mall.
  16. I didn't, but a friend called me from there this morning. He picked up a complete upper and a few other parts for his AR build. He said it was packed, and a ton of tables.
  17. Was finally delivered.
  18. You'll be doing yourself a disservice. Academy is a great store.
  19. As frustrating as it may be for the employees, It wasn't meant as an excuse. I was more or less typing out loud.
  20. Sadly, their phones have probably been ringing a million times a day for the last year, with calls from everyone and their brother looking for. 22 ammo. They have likely become deaf to the sound.
  21. Yeah, as soon as he made the comment about KKK, I had to research that. He was clearly stretching.
  22. I'm 3/4 of the way through the full version. I have found it worth watching.
