GS455 is another very knowledgeable TGOer. He definitely knows what he's talking about, where roofing and contractors are concerned. Thank you for taking the time to explain how things are supposed to work. I wish I could say the same for the guy I've been dealing with.
I sure hope your not going to say you paid a contractor for some work and he didn't finish or even show up to do it!!!!!!
No. No money has changed hands, and no work has been performed. I haven't even seen an estimate yet. -
Due to HOA rules, a metal roof is out of the question. As of right now, we are leaning towards the CertainTeed Landmark dimensional shingle.

I have a quick question to ask someone that is knowledgeable of the process/laws pertaining to hiring a contractor to do work around the house.

We're considering having our 4' privacy fence replaced in Springfield.

Great looking knife. Any chance the wood around the bottom and rear of the lanyard hole is too thin? -
I'm still trying to get a grasp on the convoluted warranties. I haven't had a chance to get online to read the fine print, but it's beginning to appear as if the warranties are a bit more useless than they'd like you to believe. Both shingle samples claim "lifetime warranty". The CertainTeed sample states 10 year SureStart Protection, 10 year StreakFighter Warranty, 130 MPH Wind Warranty. The GAF Timberline board goes into much less detail; only mentioning a Lifetime Roofing System Warranty. Based on the little research I've had time to do, the warranties are only valid if you use a roofer who's been certified through the specific manufacturer, and specific materials are used during the installation. I'm obviously not an expert, but I don't recall ever seeing roofers use anything other than tar paper and shingles. I think both of these shingle manufacturers require the use of multiple layers of specific barrier protection products to be used if you want to take advantage of the warranties.

We'll be having a new roof installed/replaced before too long, and I have a question about shingles. While I'm sure we could pay an additional fee for whichever shingle we want, the contractor brought a couple samples for me to take a look at. One of the samples is GAF Timberline, and the other is CertainTeed Landmark. For those with experience, would you recommend one over the other? Thank you in advance.

I do greatly appreciate the thoughts. Thankfully this situation doesn't compare to some of the things I've had to deal with in the recent past. While it hurts to see my daughter suffer because of the poor choices her mother has made, I'm not losing much sleep over this. That side of the family isn't always truthful with her, so I was trying to help her find the answers she is looking for. She'll just have to be a little more patient than she'd like to be.

None of those are her. She lives in Hardin County (Savannah area), but the charges are out of Hardeman County (Bolivar area). If she's going to make the news, she hasn't yet.
They can tell you charges legally but departments can have their own rules regarding information release. I have heard of jails in the past only confirming a person is in the facility and what the bond is. I think it basically stemmed from keeping reporters from getting or making up dumb quotes from jailers. Also TDR some counties have websites where you can search inmate info/booking info that shows charges and bonds. I know Robertson County does if that is the county you are needing info from.
She's in Hardeman County. I did look at their website, and they do have an online booking log. There seems to be a delay of a couple days or so.

The rest of the Williams family is obviously just as stupid as Dante.

She is an adult. From what I understand, there are at least two felony charges related to TennCare fraud. The bond has been set at $50,000. Someone said I could go to the jail, and they'd tell me in person. Hardeman County is a long drive, so I'll have to find out through the grapevine.
-
I am wondering at what point can law enforcement divulge the charges which someone is being held on. They will tell me the bond amount, but say they can't tell me the charges. It seems like this information is always plastered all over the news very quickly, so I'm not sure they can't tell me.

Even if student12 is here for some nefarious purposes, I refuse to allow my opinions on the subject to be silenced. Based on his/her response in post #6, I get the feeling he's/she's probably slightly liberal-minded, but I'm still going to give him/her the benefit of doubt that he's/she's a college student who's working on an assignment. If he/she were my child, I'd probably appreciate any cooperation from those being surveyed.

$582 isn't bad. I knew they were trying to keep the price low enough to be competitive with Glocks and M&P's.
