  1. This is a question for the avid rifle shooters in the Middle Tennessee area. I'm thinking about buying a rifle for target shooting, but have no idea where to start. If I can't find one already customized (stock, barrel, trigger, scope, ect.), I'll end up doing that part myself. My question is; What's the best caliber for this area. Again, I know little about rifles, nor do I have any idea where I can shoot one. If there isn't anywhere to shoot 1000 yards, there's no reason for me to buy one that's good for that. I'm looking for the best all-around rifle. Thanks in advance.
  2. I have the XD40 4" Service model. I love it.
  3. I'm with you on that. I've been to several, but never seem to find any "good" deals. I've found "ok" deals, but nothing to write home about. It always seems like most of the booths (that I'd be interested in) are all dealers who are selling for the same price as they off in their stores. I think it was that gun shop from Smyrna/Lavergne that really put the nail in the coffin for me. I was looking for a specific gun, and when I asked them if they could beat the prices I saw earlier in the day, the guy told me. "if you could get it cheaper at another booth, you should take your ass back there". Heck, I always thought you could wheel and deal at gun shows, be he set me straight. I've not been to another. Then again, if I would have gone to this one, maybe I could have walked away with one of those $32 auto knives.
  4. Many truck stops carry Jewelers Rouge (it's used to polish wheels, tanks, and other metal on semis), and I have a Black & Decker that's like the Dremel. It turns about 30,000RPM, so I hope that will work.
  5. True, but I've wanted one for a while. Only problem is, most of the decent ones I've found are selling for $100+. I've found a few "Made In Pakakirdastanwanski" for about 10, but I'm kinda looking for something in the middle. That $32 would have been perfect, but I'm not gonna spend the time and money at the gun show just to get turned away. I'll keep on looking.
  6. I'm gonna stop at the truck stop (not sure where else to get jewelers roughe) and buy me some. I'm gonna give that a shot before I decide to get the parts hard-chromed, or just buy hard-chromed part. Yours turned out nice.
  7. Darn! I'd really like one for that price, but I'm not LEO, EMT, Fire, or Military. Guess I'll have to keep looking. Thanks for the reply.
  8. Do you mind me asking what you gave on the auto knife? I've been looking for one, but they are usually too expensive, or garbage.
  9. I'm thinking about enrolling my 9 year old (3rd Grade) daughter into a summer camp, but I'm not sure of any, other than Camp Widjiwagan. There is no way, as a single father, that I can afford the $1600 price tag that comes along with Widjiwagan. I'm thinkg about an overnight capm that lasts 1-3 weeks. As a child, I'd go to one (Camp Algonquin, near Chicago), and it was not only a fun time, but aslo a great learning experience. I'd prefer an 'all girls' camp, but I'm open to other options. If you have any ideas, please don't hesitate to throw them out there. Thanks in advance.
  10. It's simply ignorant for anyone to make any such comments, but as a gun owner, you'd have to be doubley ignorant. That's unless you don't mind the government taking away all your guns over it. Being a gun owner, I'm very careful as to what type of comment I make out of anger, or even jokingly.
  11. And he walks away. Amazing!
  12. So, what kind of gun has he had is eye on for years?
  13. Do you know anyone around the Nashville area who can Hard-Chrome the pins, levers, mag release, grip safety and barrel on my XD? Or, do you know of anywhere I can buy the pins, levers and mag release, finished or not? Kind like this kit - http://store.valueweb.com/servlet/xdguys/-strse-98/Complete-Hard-dsh-Chromed-Kit-for/Detail
  14. Same here. It shines pretty good, but not the mirror finish I was looking for. I may just try to find someone to Hard-Chrome them.
  15. Yea, I have really big hands. I noticed how small it looked as I was posting the pictures.
  16. No. It's a 4" Service model.
  17. I used Blue Remover, wire brush, steel wool, 1000 grit sand paper, and a few metal polishes that didn't work worth a damn. I tried a rubbing compound, NEVR-Dull, and Blue Magic Metal Polish Cream. None of them did a thing. Maybe they would have worked better if I had a high-speed buffer. It's kinda hard to use one of those in an apartment. I'm gonna try to find someone who has one I can use.
  18. Chat room? What chat room?
  19. I thought it would be a great idea to do some polishing on my XD40. Since I couldn't get anyone to do it, without waiting two weeks, I took this project on myself. This wouldn't be an issue for most, but I live in an apartment, with almost no access to any type of power tools. I'll keep an eye out for someone with a high-speed buffer, or something else to help me get a better finish. I had hoped for more of a mirror finish, but with no real power tools, this is the best I could do. It's not bad, but still not what I was looking for. Please excuse the crappy pictures. I'm not sure what happened to the camera.
  20. This is the best video I've found to show you how to take apart the lower. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39DFY14vtVw&feature=related[/ame] This is the best video I've found for the sear reassembly [ame] [/ame]This is the best video I've found for the trigger reassembly [ame] [/ame]
  21. Not being a home oowner, I'm not sure if that's a weird question, but when I obtained renters insurance, I don't recall ever being asked any questions regarding gun ownership. Maybe it's because there is more of a liability factor when it comes to ownership.
  22. I'm really glad TGO stepped in when they did, because I was about to buy a ticket, not thinking about the whole "game of chance" issue. Not being the most knowledgeable about Class 3 weapons, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something else I needed to keep an eye out for in the future.
  23. Sure. It's really not that difficult. I was a little skeptical of my abilities, but that was unwarranted. I watched a youtibe video as I did it, and that helped a bunch. I'm pretty sure I can do it without the video next time. As a matter of fact, today is gonna be that next time. I will be stripping down my XD in just a few hours. I'm going to be doing some serious polishing. Anything that can be polished (except the slide), is going to be polished.
  24. I understand the "Machine Gun" thread was deleted for possible legal issues, but I was wondering if someone could expand on the issue a bit further. I've tried researching about the law regarding the ownership of a fully-automatic weapon, but I'm still a bit confused. Where there other possible legal issues, other than the fact that it would have been a "game of chance"? If it wouldn't be too much trouble, and you actually know the laws regarding owning a fully-automaic weapon, could you please explain. Thanks in advance. *** I was able to find a website with a much better description of the laws in Tennessee regarding the ownership of a machine gun. From what I understand, it may be a bit more difficult than purchasing a handgun, rifle or shotgun, but it's still legal to own one.
