Thanks again. I have plans most of the day on the 4th, but again, that's all weather permitting. They are calling for chances of rain from now until next week.
-
Question- I've seen some rifles for sale, and they call them a "clone". Example is M16A4 Clone. Does that simply mean it's an AR15 made to look like the M16?
-
That sounds like a plan to me. I'd really appreciate that. If the weather permits, I will take you up on that offer. I really need to make it to some shoots, so I can get a chance to really check them out and learn as much as I can from everyone else. I know almost nothing about them.
-
No, the barrel doesn't need to extend quite that far. I was hoping I could use a shorter barrel with a shorter handguard. I just like the smooth and clean look of a rifle like the one I pictured. The only thing that needs to be exact is the stock.
-
Yes, I'd like to stay with the 5.56/.223 I may have heard him wrong when he said something about the barrel rotating. I know he said the barrel would rotate, but it may not have been an M4. By the way, the $800 price limit would likely be without optics. I'm fairly sure of that.

I'm happy that you're happy. I'm confident that she's found a wonderful home. Yes, I'm assuming it's a she. Thank you, Burboy. Yes, it's nice knowing she didn't go too far.

This is my " I know very little about them, but I really want one" thread! I've been having a serious hankering for an AR15 of some sort, but the more I read, the more confused I get. I've been spending a whole lot of time over at AR15.com, but all the info is leaving me batty. So many options, and I have no clue where to begin. I do know that I'd like something similar to this, but it doesn't need to be exact. I do know that I want that stock, a very similar grip, and a smooth and sleek type hand guard. I also know that I do not want a handle. Optic ready is what I'm after. And I'd really really like to stay under $800. I'm not sure if all this is possible, but it's what I'm after. I'm also unsure about the barrel. I guess a 16" or 18"(?) barrel would be good, but do I go chrome lined or not? From what I understand, the chrome lined barrels last longer, but may be slightly less accurate. Then today, I had someone tell me that I need to go with an M4 barrel. The way it was explained to me, an M4 barrel rotaes with every shot? This just sounds more expensive? Anyway, that's about as far as I've gotten so far. As you can tell, I probably have more questions that I do answers. Will Be Continued! Oh, and this rifle will not need to be set up for lasers, lights, toasters or microwaves. Some optics is about it.

It sounds like you are doing a fine cleaning job. If you are concerned about spaces you can not reach, try using a cleaning spray. Most come with a very thin straw that attaches to the spray nozzle. This will help you get a bit deeper into the gun. As far as oil goes, usually, a very small amount goes a long way. Put a small amount of oil where needed, put gun back together, then simply wipe off extra oil. Extra oil isn't such a bad thing. The only real drawback to extra oil is the fact that while shooting, crud tends to build up a bit faster. Not realla big deal in most cases. Best of luck.

You'd probably want one of those small safes bolted to the floor inside the trunk. Even a safe just sitting there can be stolen. And they are not hard to break into. With that being said, I'd go with something very similar to this. http://www.gunsafestore.com/GV1000DLX.htm

You are very correct, Sir. Maybe I've been somewhat unlucky when it comes to the LEO's I've come in contact with. Is that any fault of my own? I'd say no. Any time I've had contact with LEO's due to something I've done wrong, I deserved it, and was usually treated with a fair amount of respect. The one time I didn't deserve it, well, I'm still slightly pissed about that. I guess it's that LEO-type swagger so many of them seem to have. It's kinda like that "I'm better than you" attitude. Or the "You will bow to me" attitude. Then there is the "brotherhood" thing going on. Instead of smacking the a-hole cop in the head for being a moron, let's just pretend it didn't happen. Well, until the news gets hold of the story, and we have no choice but to air the dirty laundry. The stereotypical perception of truck drivers was brought up earlier. So many people think we are a bunch of uneducated, low life, drug addicts who sleep with lot lizards in every truck stop we get close to. Long before I became a truck driver, I was well aware of this common perception. Are all truck drivers this way? No, but I'll be the first to admit, there sure is a whole lot of them on the road. I hear and see it every time I get in my truck. And this is why we as truck drivers get such a bad rap. Though some of you may consider me just another a-hole truck driver, I do all I can to seperate myself from the sterotype. And when I do come across one of those scumbag drivers who give us a bad rap, I don't pretend it doesn't exist. I'll give them a piece of my mind. I do whatever I can to help clean up the attitudes of some drivers. That doesn't mean they will change, but I'll feel better knowing that I'm not willing to simply sit back while not being heard. On the other hand, I don't blame or get upset with those who lump me into the category with the bad apples. I fully understand why they have such a perception, and hope that in my own little way, I can help change their attitude towards most of us. Fact is, the truck driver industry has done this to themselves, and have no one else to blame. After years and years of the same old crap, it's no wonder people feel the way they do. In the end, I feel LEO's should be more willing to stand up to the bad apples, but within the brotherhood, that doesn't seem to happen nearly as much as it should. So many things seem to go covered up, unless they have almost no choice but to deal with it. I feel that if the good LEO's make a whole hearted effort to weed out the bad ones, such a perception likely wouldn't exist. Not nearly as much as it does anyway. As I think I stated in an earlier post, instead of being upset because some have this type of perception, channel that anger towards the bad apple. With the countless news stories, and the instances that I've happened to be fairly close to, dealing with LEO corruption (for a lack of a better word) cases, it's not nearly as rare as some would like us to believe. It just so happens, they are too busy cleaning up everyone else backyard to worry about their own. Again, this is nothing personal towards any of our LEO members, it's simply an observation as I see things with the LEO community as a whole. I've had no issues with any LEO members, but after voicing my opinions, I may have a few less Meet-n-Shoot pals. I just hope you can continue to love me, just like the LEO's in my family. They know how I feel as well. If it helps matters any, I'm a supporter of the FOP.

Just when you thought the GSG-5 threads were done...
TripleDigitRide replied to BimmerFreak's topic in Handguns
For some strange reason, I think these things are pretty cool. Problem is, I've heard/read almost nothing but horror stories while researching the GSG-5. Most of the complaints have involved distribution and poor quality of the weapon. Many complaints are about anything from the finish being poor, to cracked bolt, to missing parts. The cracked bolt issue really bothered me. What kind of tin can are they building these things out of if a .22 has enough power to crack a bolt? Doesn't this company primarily deal with Airsoft guns? Does anyone know if their quality control has addressed and fixed these issues? -
That sucks. What a bunch of cowards. Hope he heals soon.

I have no reason to believe that you are anything but a very nice guy. I can't say you've done anything to make me believe otherwise. That being the case, my post was in no way a personal attack on you. Yes, it was quite a generalization, but a generalization based on my own personal experiences. It's a generalization based on something that actually happened to me, and things that have openly happened to others. Is it a fair generalization? Maybe not, but I honestly don't think I'm all that far off. Having LEO's as family members, I've spent a whole lot of time around many LEO's who did or do serve in one department or another. This includes family, and friends of family. Not to mention the normal interactions most of us have with LEO's over our lifetime. In my own personal experiences, it's been rare that most of these LEO's did not have the same type of "I know it all" attitude. It's also been rare that they didn't act as if they were above the law. Maybe this is what some LEO's simply consider a "perk" of having such a job. Again, this is just my opinion based on my personal experiences. And again, based on countless conversations with others, I don't believe it's a very uncommon opinion. Maybe instead of the "good" LEO's being upset, because many have such an opinion, maybe they should be upset with the "bad" LEO's. And do something about it.

True, but I'd hate to be the instigator of yet another "cop bashing thread". It just amazes me how some have such a difficult time seeing the reality of things. I've yet to find a LEO admit they are vigorously trained to not be our friends in many situations. Being vigorously trained in "trickery" is hardly friendly, IMHO. As the video states, even if your innocent, they are trained to trick you into screwing up, saying something wrong that could be twisted into making you look guilty. Tactics such as this are strictly for the benefit of LE. With the number of wrongly convicted, this hardly seems friendly to me. Fact is, with the proper tools and knowhow, damn near any person can be made to look guilty of damn near anything. No one has access to such tools and knowhow quite like LE. And they use the hell out of it. Even a simpleton like myself could probably convince some of you of things that aren't true. With that being said, in no way, shape or form does this make me a "cop hater". I have full respect for LE (in most case), but lets call a spade a spade. As was brought up earlier, I'm a truck driver. Most people have a common interpretation of what exactly a truck driver is, and being a truck driver, I'm more than likely going to be thrown into that pile. Being a truck driver, most people who don't know me would consider me a fat, lazy, uneducated, foul mouthed a$$hole (the list is nearly endless), which most is true. But, once in a while, I can be a pretty damn nice guy. I have no problem admitting what and who I am. No need to walk around pretending I'm a brain surgeon.

Nice. That's the 6" barrel, correct? You're gonna have to let me come over and try it out.

Thank you for the info, again.

Anyone have one of these? Thought about buying one of these? I'm just throwing around ideas for my future AR build/purchase, and was wondering if this would even be a good idea.
