So the "unspeakable K****" stole one....
TripleDigitRide replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in General Chat
You mean he's one of those car salesmen that buys vehicles at auction with 150,000 miles on them, has them detailed, then uses those really cool colorful shoe polishes to write LOW MILES/SUPER COLD AC/LOCAL TRADE/ONE OWNER/LOW LOW DOWN PAYMENT/GREAT GAS MILEAGE on the windshield? And does this for a ridiculous profit? I guess it's OK as long as it's not one of those Buy Here Pay Here lots. -
Don’t shoot yourself with a .45....it hurts
TripleDigitRide replied to DaveTN's topic in General Chat
You mean he was shot with the dreaded .45ACP and didn't die instantly? Actually, I've seen this before. He was a lucky guy. The good thing is, he will likely never do that again. Several years ago I was cleaning a Ruger .357 Blackhawk, when it suddenly discharged in my lap. I seriously thought I removed all the rounds prior to the cleaning, but oh was I wrong. Luckily I was the only one home at the time. I had the gun lying across my stomach while I was vigorously rubbing the gun with a cloth. Everything was going great, until I bumped into the trigger with my finger. BANG! I nearly needed a diaper. That scared the livin' daylights out of me. Of course, the first thing I do is start looking for an entry wound and blood. Remember, the .357 was lying against my stomach. Never being shot before, I really didn't know what to expect as far as pain and such. I had a Marine friend who was shot in the arm (entrance and exit wound), but didn't even notice until he felt blood running down his arm. Anyway, after realizing I hadn't just shot myself, I began looking to see where the bullet when. To my surprise, it actually took quite a bit of searching, but I was able to finally locate the path of the bullet. The bullet went all the way across the room, through the back of the couch (where almost always people were sitting), through the wall that seperated the living room and master bedroom, through the back of the dresser, through the contents of the dresser drawer (mosty clothes), and finally was stopped by the metal handle/plate on the dresser drawer. If it would have passed through that, right out the window she would have gone. I was very lucky in many many ways. Needless to say, I am beyond careful these days. I check, double check, and triple check. -
Wood grip help off Ebay
TripleDigitRide replied to Hooker771's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I'm sure you'll be fine. I would venture to say, if someone is going to screw you out of money on Ebay, it probably wouldn't be over a set of $40-$50 grips for a CZ. -

Thank you! But please keep that between you and I. I have a reputation to keep up around here. -
The newest list is May 06-December 07? I'm not sure I understand how you can use this C&R FFL to by anything other than old guns? What else can you buy?

This sounds like a plan. What's the difference between the 01 and 03 C&R FFL? Nevermind. I found it.

Wood grip help off Ebay
TripleDigitRide replied to Hooker771's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
As long as you're happy with the purchase. I didn't realize shipping would be that cheap. Now I see just how ridiculous some Ebayers are on their shipping charges. I've paid nearly triple that price for an item that didn't weight 1.5lbs. As far as finding parts for your CZ, keep an eye on sites like GunBroker.com and GunsAmerica.com. You can also check out your local gun shows. -

Another vote for the 870. Such a versatile gun. -
$352 million? And I decided to become a truck driver!?! Just imagine what they don't find.
-
Nope, only two. Just thought I'd break up the debate a little.

I think I have one testicle bigger than the other.

After reading the thread he was selling it on, it appears that maybe he shot it at a later date, but forgot to change the ad? -
If you were also wearing your Mall Ninja.....ooops...I mean, HCP badge, this would have never happened.

I've been using Militec on pistols for quite a while, and I haven't noticed any negative effects. I've been using it on anything (gun related) that needs to be oiled. I've never used the Lucas gun oil, but I swear by their automotive products. I use all their additives on a regular basis. Ever decide to toss that Militec-1, holler at me first. It will be a few weeks before I order the upper. Heck, I still don't know which company I'm going with. I'm also still trying to determine what barrel twist to go with. Also, since I'm likely going with a varmint-type A4 upper half with free float tube/hand guard (minus the bull barrel), can I still use BUIS? I noticed some of the pre-assembled varmint uppers have a Weaver type gas block sight base.

Oh, and UPS employees make VERY good money. It's not as if UPS is giving them the benefit of cheap/no cost insurance, only to pay them crap wages. A good friend of mine is a local/regional truck driver for UPS, and he's making a killin'. His brother loads the trucks at night, and I was shocked at how great he way being paid, too. Even many of the part-time employees make a great salary. We had a night-shift warehouse guy who worked for UPS part-time. He was making more at UPS working part-time than he was working for us full-time. I don't know how much he was making with UPS, but he was making over $12.00/hr working for us. He was finally hired on full-time with UPS, and he's never looked back. There is a huge difference between UPS paying their grunts $14-$15+/hr, with great benefits, and Wal-Mart paying their grunts $7-$8/hr with benefits that Wal-Mart offers. My father built an independant moving company from the ground up, and always took care of the employees. His employees had the best insurance money could buy, and also made a very nice salary. He built that company from a 2 bedroom duplex, hillbilly-type outift, into a well established money making company. Before selling the company 11 years later, he was able to generate very big profits and take care of his employees at the very same time. He also made a very nice chunk of change from the sale of his moving company. If a small buisness man can do it, so can/should companies like Wal-Mart.

You obviously haven't priced insurance for yourself lately. The type of coverage many of us recieve from our employer is outrageous. Call a few insurance providers for some price quotes on plans simialr to that of the one you may get though your job. Employers get a slightly discounted rate, because they have several employees joining with the insurance company. This is the main reason State employee's have such great coverage, at such a low cost. The sheer number of State employyees allow Tennessee and the insurance provider to come up with a much lower cost than an individual or a smaller company could obtain. Simply based on the number of employees employed with Wal-Mart, their coverage and cost could easily be much lower. The difference being, Wal-Mart chooses not to pay as much of a share as some emloyers might. UPS pays a much greater portion of their employees insurance premium. of course, that makes it cheaper on their employees. I'm not sure of the exact figures, but I have fairly good insurance coverage though my employer. The cost to me is about $50/month, but the portion the company pays is several hundred dollars. They pay a huge chuck of the premiums. I can't say the same for our family plan. If I opted to add my daughter, my portion would increase by roughly $200/month. Instead, I opted for an indviduale plan through BCBS of TN. I went with a $60 plan. yes, that's cheap enough, but the deductible is $5000/year. Thankfully, she doesn't need a doctor very often.

My father, who lived way out in the sticks, tried Satellite Internet for roughly a year. His experience was not a pleasant one. This was about 2 years ago, so things could have changed for the better. Back then, the price was fairly expensive. He also had tons of connection issues. He expected the somewhat rare sevice interuptions during a heavy storm (similar to Satellite TV), but it ended up being much worse. Even if moderate cloud cover happened to roll in, the service was out like a light. This happened on a weekly basis with him. God forbid they had a several days or a week of rain in the forecast, because he wouldn't be able to use the internet for the entire time. Like I said, this was about 2 years ago, and I'd imagine they've made some improvements, but I can't say for sure. He also complained, because Wild Blue limited him to download and upload traffic. They base this amount on the plan you choose. if he ever got close to his limit, his connection speed was greatly reduced. The speeds were not fast to begin with. Faster than dial-up, yes, but nowhere near cable speeds. I think the speeds at that time were 1.5Mbps DL speed and 256Kbps UL speed. When that's your only option, I guess it's not bad. That's about all I can remeber right now.

Congrats! It's a pretty fun process. Picking out all the components is the hard part for me. I couldn't make up my mind. And ideas on the route you're going to take?
