What cartridge do SWAT and military snipers use??
TripleDigitRide replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I'm not an expert of the subject, but any time I hear something about a "sniper rifle", .308 is generally always in the same sentence. -
Titans? Who are they? Go Cowboys!

Sooner or later, I want to build one like this. Of course this is on a very long list of desired guns, and I really need to get my daughter a .22 before I worry about another one for me. If you're looking for the cheapest route, as others have said, you can find a used model for fairly cheap. Sounds like you intend on keeping everything except the stock, so that would probably be your best bet. Just make sure that you won't/don't have intentions of going with a full custom job in the picture above. If you do decide to go that route, you may be better off with starting from scratch. Good luck.

True, but probably doesn't hurt nearly as much as a bear rippin' your flesh to pieces. I'm just sayin.

Congrats. Yes, the guys at Hero Gear have been a great help during my AR build. Shawn (TPS-Robocop) was also a great help. Good luck on the "cheap" part. I found out quickly, there is no such thing as cheap when it comes to a fairly good quality build. I had intentions of doing the same, but it turned out much different. I figured that I'd be better off doing it right the first time, rather than doing it half-a$$, only to spend even more money getting it how I really wanted. You should take a look through my AR build thread. It was also my first build, and everyone was more than helpful with giving me lots of good info. You'll probably save yourself lots of question asking by reading through it. Best of luck. Enjoy it.

No, I don't dress up. Although, there used to be a theater in Franklin (may still be there) that used to (may still) play the movie while live actors ran around somewhat acting out the scense. They also encouraged audience participation which was quite interesting. There was water, hotdogs, rice, confetti, etc. flying everywhere. It was a real blast, until one of the cast guys through a bucket of water directly in my lap. Having soaking wet jeans in zero degree weather was a bit unpleasant, but it was worth it. A great time had by all.

+ 1 AC/DC is one of the greatest bands ever. IMHO, they have not put out a bad album. I'm looking very forward to October. Unlike so many other bands from back in the day, they haven't sold their soul and turned POP. They know where their roots are and what made them one of the greatest bands ever, and they seem to be sticking to their guns. FIRE!

RC F-22 Raptor (Gutterboy look here!)
TripleDigitRide replied to Rightwinger's topic in General Chat
I saw one of these turbine jets (yes, with real jet A1 fuel) flying during the R/C show over the last weekend. It was a MIG 29, and it was amazingly fast. Just a shade under 300mph. The turbine alone can cost upwards of $5000-$6000+++. It's easy for these type of jets to cost over the $10,000 mark. They make it look easy, but you need cat-like refexes to fly these badboys. Watching them fly these in 3D is like no other flying I've ever seen in the R/C world. Oh yea, the jet even had air brakes. So bada$$. -
I think I've found someone more indecisive than myself. Trust me, I know your pain. So many options it can make your head hurt.

Some of mine would be Easy Rider, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, American Graffiti, Class of Nuke 'Em High, and Ghoulies.

No Way! Surely that guy is a members of some Special Forces. Navy Seal, perhaps? That type of shooting must take years to master. Still a greenhorn here.
-
Yea, I don't think I'll be doing any Youtube type shooting anytime soon. I'm not even close to being that tacticool, yet.

I'm still holding my breath for a 10mm XD, 4" Service Model.

I had the T-Maxx 3.3 and Revo 3.3, but I got rid of thos pain in the a$$e$. Neither of them would stay running worth a damn. They would run top notch, until I went to use it again. I didn't have the patience to work on them all the time. It's was always something. BTW, nice little collection of toys.

Power Bill or Ammo? Let me think about this for a second...Ummm, yea, I'm going with the power bill. I'm happy to hear that the Open Carry Boogeyman didn't get you.
-
Thank you very much for the graciousness, but I couldn't accept such an offer. Heck, I got to think about what it must have costed you to let me shoot your rifles. You've been kind enough. I didn't really factor in the heat when deciding to go with the ladder covers. I just wanted something to smooth out the sharp edges of the aggressive style rails on this forearm. If heat is going to be an issue for me, I'll deal with that later. I've changed my mind with everything else during this build, so I wouldn't be surprised if I decide to go another route with this as well.
-
Thanks! You're still going to be the first person I call when I'm ready to shoot. The "significant other" has been very understanding about the money spent on this project, so I'm trying not to push it to the limit. I have this beautiful rifle, but no ammo as of yet. When things settle down a bit, I plan on finding a good deal on some.

Being a long time Metallica fan, that was great. Even if I do hate cats. Nice find.

Yes, a hair dryer set on high will get hot enough. You don;t need to exceed 150 degrees. When a gun is new (or new to me) I take it to the range with some Militec. I apply it to all moving parts and inside of the barrel, then I shoot 2 magazines. I apply more Militec, and shoot 2 more magaines. I then do it a thrid time. I apply a very thin coat after cleaning. I will repeat the above process every few thousand rounds. Militec claims that you can shoot roughly 1500 rounds without applying any more Militec1, but because I always leave a thin layer of oil after cleaning, I pay little attention to that. Here is some info from their page. Read through it.

Out of sight, out of mind.

Someone really needs to bring back the Hitler mustache. Any trend-setters in da house?

I decided to go with the SUREFIRE ladder-type rail covers. The UPS guy just delivered them. I liked the SUREFIRE covers better than the other brands offered. First of all, they have slight indentions which allow your fingers to grip them a little better. On top of that, they were at least half the price of all other brands. They fit perfectly.

I'm glad you mentioned the hair dryer method. I forgot to mention it.

+1 One of these is on my long list of "Must Buys" in the future. Of course, I can't sellt for a basic 10/22. I have to have a custom job. Sooner or later.
