  1. Yea, I got her some of those triple spinner targets to make things a little more entertaining for her. Because they don't allow them, she wasn't able to use them at Owl Hollow, but I plan on taking them along to our next trip out to Gallatin Gun Club.
  2. The Bushnell is mounted on a weaver-style base with Kwik Site rings. That's what they had at Academy.
  3. I have a Bushnell 3-9x40 on it now.
  4. Man, I'm having a difficult enough time supporting my own gun and ammo habit. My girlfriend will have to take up coupon clipping as her favorite pastime. Congrats!
  5. We've been going over the safety aspect of the rifle since her birthday. She retained some of it, but closely supervised hands-on experience is what really helps her the most. I had to keep reminding her of a few things during the range session, but she was catching on. She will not have access to the rifle unless I'm next to her at all times. Thanks for the upgrade tips. I'll look into some of those.
  6. What scope would you suggest?
  7. Let's say that someone (no, not me) was busted for shoplifting an item with a value of roughly $50. They were charged with Theft Under $500. The theft occured while said person was legally carrying a firearm. Will the fact that this person was carrying a firearm while committing result in the loss of his/her HCP and/or ability to buy a firearm in the future? After all the paperwork was finished, the police returned the firearm to the owner, but mentioned that they were going to ask the judge to revoke his/her HCP. The gun was not used in any way during the shoplifting, only carried.
  8. First of all, I am just now getting into the world of rifles, so I am plenty ignorant on the subject. As some of you know, I recently gave my 10 year old daughter her very first rifle. A pink Ruger 10/22. I also put a cheap (about $45) Bushnell 3x9x40 scope on it. Well, thanks to a gracious invite from a fellow TGOer, she was able to finally shoot her new rifle at Owl Hollow. Being far from a rifle expert, I thought she did an amazing job. For the most part, she was shooting at a target that had a "bullseye" that was 4" in diameter. Not the smallest, I know. I didn't want her to get discouraged first trip ever shooting a gun. At 50 yards, 97 of 100 rounds were in that 4" circle. She was using an el cheapo adjustable front rifle rest, and an even cheaper bean bag style rear rest. Nothing fancy about it. My quetion is; How accurate can I expect her to shoot with this stock 10/22? I don't expect her to be a markswoman right away, but I'd like to get a general idea of what to expect. She has a lot to learn (so do I) as far as the basic fundamentals go, but I'm sure some upgrades will be necessary in the future. I have high hopes of her taking a serious interest in shooting sports, and my main concern is her getting too discouraged with her progress, and decide to call it quits. I know it's very early in the process, but I'm trying to think ahead. Bottom Picture: Yes, I'm aware that the barrel is not properly placed on the rest. She was only posing for this picture. Also, I'm looking for someone who's willing and able to teach her and I about the fundamentals of properly shooting a rifle. If it helps any, I am a member at Gallatin Gun Club, and plan on getting a membership at Owl Hollow. Being so close, GGC would be far more convenient for her an I, but I'm open on locations.
  9. Fancy? I prefer the term Bad A$$. Nevertheless, the Marine Magnum is now Head of Security around the house. And a fine job it's doing.
  10. Can I join, just so I can learn all the cool handshakes?
  11. What are the benefits of being a Mason that the "Average Joe" could benefit from by going around falsely portraying himself as a Mason.
  12. What is the point of being secretive? When becoming a Mason, do they give you a reason? Would any harm be done if these secrets were revealed to the general public? If so, generally speaking, what kind of harm?
  13. I'm not a Mason, but I do often wonder, how long do you have to be a member before they start filling you in on the Top Secret stuff? Surely someone has infiltrated this Secret Society, only to find out what the fuss is all about. I don't search it out, but I don't recall any members or former members talking publicly about what a bad group the Mason's are. What happens if a member was to spill the beans about what goes on behind closed doors? Do they threaten such members and their families with death?
  14. You have not been a member for at least 30 days.
  15. I'm far from an expert, but I'm very happy with my Spike Tactical lower.
  16. Welcome to TGO! Enjoy your stay!
  17. I was almost tempted to settle for one with the 1/2" shorter barrel, but knowing me, I would have never been happy. Thanks to everyone for the kind words.
  18. Many Wal-Marts quit carrying fireams, and all Wal-Marts (along with just about anyone that sells ammo) have been running low on ammo. Speaking of ammo, Academy in Rivergate has (as of 45 minutes ago) has tons of 9mm and .45 ammo. Looked like they had just about everything other than the darn 10mm that I'm looking for. Oh, and not a single box of 12 guage slugs.
  19. With a whole lot of patience, and a little wheelin' and dealin', I finally got the Remington 870 Marine Magnum I've been searching for. Here's a couple crappy pictures.
  20. Based on a simple search of the model number, the prices I found were on average of $1,200. Some a little more, some a little less. That being said, I'm no expert. And based on the craziness (inflated prices), you could probably get a few hundred bucks more.
  21. You can carry any way you'd like--Just as long as it's not loaded.
  22. Doing it yourself is always an option. Wal-Mart sells Birchwood Casey gun blueing. If it were a more expensive gun, I may suggest going to a professional, but with a Rossi, do it yourself.
  23. That's one way to increase ones post count.
