  1. Amen! I have been on both sides enough times to know that I never want to move myself again if I can help it. When the movers can have me out of my old home and into my new home in the matter of hours, it's a no-brainer for me. As long as I can afford it, I'll pay more for a much less stressful option. 2. Make sure you get a full explanation of the insurance coverage they are providing. Moving companies are only required to reimburse you 10 cents/60 cents per pound. That mean if they drop your fancy big screen TV, they can put the pieces on a scale and write you a check for only a few dollars. The minimum requirements may have changed in the last 15 years, but I don't imagine it would be by much, if at all. Additional insurance coverage can usually be purchased through the moving company. 3. I have a M&P 40 Pro Series. I prefer the M&P because it feels better in my hand. You can't go wrong with either, so choose whichever feels best to you.
  4. I spent about 10 years working for my father's moving company, before he decided to sell it. Even with all of my experience, I always hire movers. I'm extremely tired, so I don't have time to leave a verbose response, but I can share a bit of advice. A few experienced movers can do in a few hours what will take you and your friends all weekend to accomplish. This is assuming you have any friends when moving day rolls around. Save yourself a lot of money and headache by being as prepared as possible. When you pack, use boxes, not trash bags. Use boxes with tops/lids. Do not pack boxes with crap hanging out of the top. Do not pack boxes too heavy. Clearly mark all boxes so there's no trying to figure out where they go in your new home. Disassemble beds and other furniture. Roll up and tie cords for TV's, lamps, etc. Do no leave dresser drawers full of clothing and other crap. Keep everything as organized as possible. I always try to place all boxes along the walls, in as few rooms as possible. I generally try to keep them as close to the door as possible, but not in the way. The less the movers have to walk around searching for stuff, the better off you'll be. Keep your children and pets out of the way. Many companies will charge an additional fee for a safe, depending on its size and location. Ask about this when you're getting quotes. I would always suggest hiring a minimum of a 3 man crew, unless you have a very small amount of stuff. A three man crew costs more by the hour, but you generally save money in the long run. While one is packing the truck, the other two are busy carrying stuff. There is a lot less time being wasted. As far as money goes, it really depends on how much stuff you have, how organized you are, the distance between the old and new homes, how much walking the movers will need to do between your home and the truck. On average, most local moves cost less than $1000. My last two moves were about 1200 square feet worth of stuff, and both times I paid about $400. One of those was from a second floor apartment to a home about 30 minutes away. Bottom line, be as prepared as possible BEFORE the movers arrive. If I can be of any more assistance, don't hesitate to ask. Hopefully I'll have had some sleep before then. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  5. Yes. According to the clerk's office, they will serve him. I know that's sometimes easier said than done. I know where he lives, so hopefully that will help. We'll see. I'm just so damn aggravated. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  6. Thanks for the helpful information, fellas. At this point, I will gladly pay the $177.50 and use a vacation day, if it means this guy will have to lose a day of work and squirm a little bit. The whole ordeal is so ridiculous. I gave him every opportunity to make it right. I can't figure out if someone is giving him some crappy advice, or if he's just this much of a scumbag. If it's the latter, he sure did have me fooled. He really seemed like a nice, genuine dude. Ah, it is what it is.
  7. Yes, he and his bosses know that I am willing to take this to court. His bosses don't really have anything to do with this, as did this job on his own time. I only contacted them because I wanted the judge to see that I had exhausted every available option before bringing the matter to court. So far, he's ignored all attempted communications, including the certified letter that was sent last week. It looks like he has 15 days to pick it up from the post office, before they return to sender.
  8. The receptionists aren't allowed to give legal advice, and it appears that telling which paperwork I need to fill out can somehow be considered legal advice.   After speaking with someone who has been through a similar situation, what I need to do is file a civil warrant. I'm double checking this information before I waste another trip.
  9. I'll try to make this as brief as possible.  I hired a guy to install tile flooring in both of my bathrooms. He was part of the 3-4 man crew who installed the hardwood flooring in my home. Within a few days of completion, the grout lines began to crack. I made multiple attempts to fix this myself, but I was sure it came down to improper installation of the flooring.  I contacted the installer 2 months ago - a week or two after the tile was installed. He initially attempted to come up with some lame BS excuses, before saying that someone told him to re-grout the floors, then use a grout sealer. While I was pretty sure the grout sealer wasn't going to get to the root of the problem, I agreed to let him give it a shot. He's pretty well ignored my countless attempts to reach him for a resolution. I have tried to contact him via his phone number, his Facebook, his girlfriend's Facebook, both of his bosses, and I sent a certified letter to his home last week. He has ignored all communications, but I'm still not sure about the certified letter. I know they attempted to deliver it, but tracking information is showing 'Notice Left (No Authorized Recipient Available)". Not sure if he refused to sign, or no one was home. I thought the small claims process was going to be fairly simple and straightforward. I went down to the local court house, and the receptionist wanted to know what kind of paperwork I wanted to fill out. I explained the situation to her, and informed her that I wanted to take the case to small claims court. She again asked me what kind of paperwork I wanted to fill out. And again, all I know is that I want to take this guy to small claims court. After going 'round and 'round with this woman, she finally told me to contact an attorney and ask them which paperwork I need to fill out. I've called a few in my area, but none seem to be all that willing to come off with this simple bit of information. They want me hire them. I thought the whole idea of small claims was so that you didn't need to hire an attorney for a rather small amount of money. Anyway, has anyone been though this? Anyone know which paperwork I need to be asking for? Anyone? Anything?
  10. I don't have any bird feeders, but my neighbor has several. Hopefully this snake thinks the birds taste better than our 5 pound chihuahua/yorkie/maltese mix.
  11. As I was attempting to move it from my yard, it climbed the fence and posed for several pictures. It stayed right there on the fence for a good 5 minutes.
  12. Seems like rat, chicken, black, king, etc. are one in the same, or at least very similar, correct?
  13. In the three years we've lived here, this is the first snake we've seen. Is it a rat/chicken snake?
  14. The coils were last cleaned in the spring of last year. Well, the tech claimed to have cleaned them.
  15. The evaporator coils are sealed inside the big box on the outside of the home. A vast majority appears to be insulation. It was wet, and looked like it was packed tightly on the coils.
  16. Could this amount of "stuff" possibly accumulate in/on the evaporator coil over the last year or so? My common sense tells me no, but I'm not an expert. To give you an idea, this pile of "stuff" will fill a plastic grocery bag between 1/4 and 1/2 full. We had a local HVAC company come out last year to do a cleaning/inspection/service on both of our units. I called the same company to come out for another cleaning/inspection/service. The technician who came out yesterday pulled all of this out/off of the evaporator coil. I'm wondering if the technician who came out last year failed to clean the coils, which may explain why our system seemed to not be performing properly.
  17. I'm always amazed at the lack of security at many gun shops.
  18. Sounds like I wasn't going crazy. Thanks for the input.
  19. Is anyone aware of any laws that would prohibit employees of check cashing / cash advance / title loan businesses from carrying a firearm while on duty? One of these establishments in our area was robbed at gunpoint last night, and one of the employees had the following to say:   Common sense tells me that someone has been feeding her a bunch of BS, or there was a misunderstanding along the way. I cannot see how or why the government could or would implement laws which would prevent employees of these businesses from carrying a firearm, but maybe I am out of the loop on this one. I suspect this is more along the lines of a company policy, rather than a law. What say you?
  20. Why am I not surprised that their own internal investigation didn't turn up any wrongdoing.
  21. I wish they would have made the barrel a bit shorter. I was almost sold on the 43 being my first Glock purchase, then I watched Hickok the 45's review and comparisons. The barrel is too long for my intended purpose as a pocket gun.
  22. I wish him the best.
  23. I used the optics base trick. I mounted it where the two rail sections meet, then re-tightened everything down. Worked like a charm. Thank you.
  24. If I screw the rail to the point that the rails are even and touching, the edge of the barrel nut partially blocks the retainer/set screw hole, barely allowing the screw to get started. This is why I had to back the rail off by one turn, leaving a small gap between the upper receiver and quad rail. I'm going to fool with it again this afternoon. I'll report back.
