1. I wouldn't even know how to do that. I paid for the upgrade disk, and it was working when I picked it up from the TGO member.
2. Windows appears to have installed, but now it's telling me the Product Key is not valid. Errrrrrrrr! It was working when I brought it home a few days ago.
3. OK. I got it to the point where Windows is installing. We'll see what happens.
4. That sounds like something I want to do, but can that be done with the Windows 7 Upgrade disk?
5. I am sure it is easy, but not so much for someone who's never done this before. Here is the screen I am stuck at. I am trying to figure out what to do in order to start over as fresh as possible.
6. I think the MSI disk is up to date. It's only a few days old. I am ready to re-install the upgrade disk, but I need to know which options to choose.
7. I know of a few friends that dumped Comcast for U-Verse, and every one has switched back. None of them were satisfied with the internet. A couple also complained about the way their outages work. From what I understand, if one of AT&T's services (cable, internet, phone) go out, everything goes out. I know one of them lost all service for 2 or 3 days. That's always kept me from switching.
8.
Try the "last known good configuration" after hitting F8 and pray it works
Tried that. Short of re-installing the upgrade disk, I don't think there's any fixing it. Then again, my thinking is what got me into this mess to begin with.
9. OK. Changed back to boot DVD first. With the Win 7 Upgrade disk in, I chose to repair. Following message came up.   The version of system recovery options is not compatible with the version of windows you are trying to repair. Try using a recovery disc that is compatible with this version of Windows.
10. I changed them back to the way they were. I took a photo before, just to make sure. This is the screen I get when pushing F8
11. Where the picture Says Choose Advance Options for: Windows 7, mine says Choose Advance Options for: Windows Setup
12. That picture is one I found online. My screen looks the same, but doesn't have that option.
13. I don't see that option.
14. This is what I get when I do that,
15. I have it set to boot the DVD first. DO I need to go back in and change that?
16. You're starting to lose me. From the screen pictured above, what do I need to do?
17. I'm thinking I tried that. After that, it would boot the MSI screen, and as soon as windows would try to boot, it would go straight to the Windows Error Recovery Screen. Then I clicked "Start Windows Normally". Then "Starting Windows" and the colored balls popped up for a second. Then it took me back to the Windows Error Recovery Screen. That's all it will do.
18. He gave me two disks. One is labeled MSI Firmware & Software, and the other is .Net Framework Download Manager. Not sure if that helps.
19. That is what I want. But how do I do it?
20. I'm going to make this as to the point as possible. Started with a factory HP desktop with windows 7. Decided to up grade. Only things (as far as I know) that's still factory are the DVD player and hard drive. New motherboard is MSI. A fellow TGOer hooked me up with a great deal on upgrading my PC, but it didn't take me long to royally screw it up. I got home and began messing with it, but noticed an issue with downloading Google Chrome. Was receiving an error message that mentioned something about my profile not being able to be opened correctly. My first mistake was trying to fix this issue. I watched some YouTube videos about this issue, then began following the directions to the best of my less than stellar ability. This is where things get even worse. I began making changes to things that I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have. The next few hours was a blur. Now for the biggest mistake. I decided that I'd just try to use the System Image disks (7 of them) that I created when first purchasing the PC a few years ago. I think I killed it. Upon rebooting, I get the MSI screen, but Windows will not boot. The "system" decided to take a shot at fixing itself, followed by an attempted factory system image. Doesn't appear said system is much smarter than myself. I then decided to run the Windows 7 Update disk, but how am I supposed to do that if Windows won't boot? I was able to Google some info, and was told to set it up so that the DVD drive would boot first. As you can see from the picture below, I got that far, but now I am stuck. I don't know what to do next. I want to start over from as close to factory (Windows 7) as possible. There's nothing on here that I need saving, so I basically want everything to be wiped clean. I have never done this, so I need advice that includes step-by-step instructions. The Windows 7 Update disk is in, and this is what my screen looks like.
21. So would the consumer.
22. There isn't another forum with as many great members as TGO, in my opinion.   And as far as my advice for your brother goes, it was my pleasure. But when it's all said and done, I owe you big time for all the help you've given me in the last week or so. Big time.   Feel free to give your brother my number, and I'll be glad to help him in any way I can.
