To someone that has been to all the stores with zero inventory looking for 22lr paying 400% over may not be such a bad deal. People have to pay the bills, I certainly would not pay that much but I'd probably pay 45.00 for a decent box of 500 22lr, I'm out :(

I know they are illegal in DC, but I figured the Gregory defense would work if 100,000 people showed up with them :)

I think what should happen is instead of wielding around an AR or AK with a magazine in place in public someone should organize an event in DC. Instead of everyone carrying a gun all that would be required would be an empty high capacity magazine hung around each person's neck. Call it something catchy like the 'million mag march' and get some media attention.

You can add 2 weeks for the Christmas and new year holidays, plus the volume has increased I bet. It took 6 weeks for mine in normal times.

I didnt do any research at all :) I just ASSumed by the context that the domain was owned and used by her and someone snuck in and grabbed it when it lapsed. If that was the case it is amusing and most likely she would get it back, if someone just went through all the names and found it and registered then its not a big deal. I would think a US Senator would have a.gov domain.
-
If thats the case then its no different then whitehouse.com as opposed to whitehouse.gov and its a non-story ;)

The people who will be out will be the ones that bought high hoping to sell higher, just because the ban scare goes away doesnt mean all the people that bought them are going to sell some. Some will start shooting them and others will just lock them away until the next ban. I have friends that are not 'gun people' and never fired one that bought up ARs before the '94 ban and still have them.

Kind of reminds me of the whole Nissan.com thing, Nissan motors has been trying to get that domain for years now and still hasnt. But my guess is someone will pay that domain owner from the Feds and it will back in the Senator's hands soon.

You would think after a while the market would get saturated, as long as they keep the political theater going its going to be crazy..

$300 Life Membership in National Rifle Association via Tom Gresham
KJ48 replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
No, thee times this year they sent me some kinf of firearm training DVDs. I was going to just throw them away but I opened one and it said if I dont mail them back within 10 days they will keep sending me the series and bill me for them. Myself I though that was a little shady. Like I said I support them, but it would sure be nice if they had an opt-out for the marketing. -

Great, a lifetime of DVDs mailed to you that you will be billed for if you dont send them back, dozens of e-mails a week and more junk mail than I have ever seen. I support the NRA and what they are doing, been a member since the early 80s, but the marketing in the last few years has gotten out of hand.. -
No worse than this genius on the left: http://washingtonexaminer.com/virginia-lawmakers-ak-47-sparks-gun-debate-on-house-floor/article/2518986#.UPmCMUbCz8A Magazine in and thumb on the trigger...

I grant permission to begin lowering prices back to normal
KJ48 replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in General Chat
I have a feeling the next to replace her will make Feinstein look like a right winger. Should be a lot of pre-ban mags from NY hitting the market anyhow. Just like gas once ammo reaches a certain threshold it never seems to go back down, gun prices will come back done once no one can afford to shoot them anymore.. -
Anyone know a GOOD roofing company/roofer in W Knoxville?
KJ48 replied to KJ48's topic in General Chat
Called them three times over two weeks, talked to someone each time and they never called back. Maybe they all went north for Sandy, or just short on people for the winter, funny when we had the hail damage I had 50 people stop by and want to climb on the roof and give an estimate.. -
Some insurance companies have a cap on firearms unless there is a rider, mine is 2500.00. Always important to keep a list of serial numbers and pictures (or a video on CD) in a safe place if you dont have receipts. I checked into a rider and they said you didnt need an appraisal unless there were high dollar antiques involved.

I'll check it out, thanks. It is an absurdly pitched and tall roof, otherwise I would have been up there already. I can see exactly where it is leaking from in the attic, my guess is an exposed nail that shouldnt be there came loose or didnt have any sealer put on it.. 30 years ago I'd climb right up there and look :) -
I need a leak fixed, nothing major but I am having a heck of a time finding someone to come out and look at it. Its a newer roof and its obvious where its leaking from, been fine for a couple years and just noticed it when I was in the attic the last big rain. Some want a credit card number just to come and do an estimate and others simple dont return phone calls. I know there has to be a couple decent roofing companies out there but doing the phone book thing isnt working. Anyone have any direct experience with a company who actually returns phone calls and does decent work? The company that did it originally went up north to NJ/NY and, of course, dont return phone calls.

Maybe a visit soon, but most likely they will take care of that when they come to get everyone else's guns ;)

While thats true a lot of people are too lazy to wait around and have the money, or they may not be able to hang around the store all day to wait for a rifle or ammo to come in. Plus I'm sure some have a buddy at WalMart, Acadamy etc that will let them know what came in and when.
-
I agree, matter of fact all the panic buying may just get them to work harder and faster at trying to pass something to put a stop to it. I was caught with my pants down as well since I was never an ammo collector. Just a shame I cant even find a box of cheap .22 so the kids can do some plinking during their Christmas time off.

Forums are social media ;) You dont think the news reports of packed gun shows, huge sales and looming bans have anything to do with it? A lot of people at the stores and shows have never been on an internet gun forum in their life I bet.

I should have taken a pic at the crowd at Gander Mtn yesterday, it was one of the most ridiculous things I have seen in years. There was a crowd of people at the counter and the salesman would bring out a box of ammo and people were jumping up and raising their hands like it was the last loaf of bread in communist Russia or something, Several people people standing around smiling proudly at their case of .223 or .22LR, even seen a couple people holding bushmaster boxes so they must have got some in stock. Also seen a guy selling .22LR out of the back of his truck in the parking lot, my guess is he just bought some inside at the regular price and was doubling his money. I have been shooting for 30+ years, its a great hobby and all but what is going on is bordering on crazyness. Wasnt even that bad in '94, most likely we can all thank the media for whipping people into a frenzy.

I have been playing for nearly 40 years, took all kind of lessons when I was young, but always lost interest because after years of lessons I never was able to play what I wanted to play. I learned mostly by listening to songs and watching the players on TV, pretty tedious unless you want to learn a song badly. Recently one of my kids (10yr old) picked a game called Rocksmith for the xbox 360, I let him use one of my beater guitars and in a month he was playing a ton of songs, not goofy three chord stuff but artists like Allman brothers, Clapton, Rush and some newer artists I wasnt familiar with. Then I started fooling with the thing and was amazed how well it works with a real guitar, you can play two guitars at once, or a guitar and bass too. I have to admit taking some pleasure in beating the kid on a video game - even though once he gets his finger strength up I'm sure he will be kicking my butt. Its not really a good theory or music reading teacher, but its good for learning scales, chords and rock techniques. It wont replace a classic instructor but it will get her up and playing popular songs right from the beginning, thats what keeps kids interested..

Everything is now an "assault" weapon and selling
KJ48 replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
I was in the Turkey Creek Gander Mountain last night and naturally all the evil black rifles were gone, they did have some camo r-15s and r-25 remingtons. Didnt look at the prices and which exact models but they may be an alternative to someone looking for a new AR without paying real stupid prices. If you can live with the camo look and no flash hider anyhow.. Plenty of pistols, bolt rifles and shotguns though, and lots of people buying.
