Shoplifter at Chilhowee Gun Show Jan 28th
Seaslug replied to MattCary's topic in Events and Gatherings
You guys are makin' me nostalgiac. You haven't lived until you've ridden a mountain bike up and down Magnolia...unarmed...after dark on a Friday night...with a Hooters girl... Sent from my HTC Evo on Tapatalk. -
+1 on the trigger. Holy crap...Oh, and the new receivers are a thing of beauty, too!

FWIW, when I ordered my Kidd barrel, it had a 1/8" scuff on the crown that looked like it had been drug across a parking lot. They sent me a new one free of charge before they even received the damaged one, and they just included a prepaid shipping label in the box. As a result, I went ahead and built the whole gun with Kidd parts (my firing pin did NOT look like that, btw...lol). Sometimes, stuff just happens.

Why not just buy a Colt 6920 and save the wait?

One Person Shot At Hickory Hollow Mall
Seaslug replied to Volzfan's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
This would be funnier if almost the exact same scenario hadn't played itself out here at East Tow...err, Knoxville Center a couple years back. The end result was a dead store manager, although he was Arab, rather than Indian... -

I'm late to the party, but no, you are not alone. I often wonder how aware those who are so quick to point out bias in everything they see are of their own...Guess I'm heading over to check out the other thread now. -
I have an Aimpoint T-1 and H-1 on a couple of other guns, and as far as simple functioning goes, the PA Micro is very, VERY close. For a .22, I don't think there's a better optic for even twice the price.
-
Primary Arms Micro and an Aimpoint 3x magnifier that gets shared between a couple of different rifles.

If you're having cycling issues that are resolved by the KX3, then it tells you that the issues are gas-related. The ports need to be opened up, because the gun was never properly tuned in the first place.
-
I actually have a Docter MRD, and I thought about it for a minute, but I'm not a big fan of piggyback optics. Besides, the Elcan spends most of its time in 1x anyway.
-
No. A properly-tuned SBR from a manufacturer that knows what they're doing will run just fine. For extremely short barrels, however, the KX3 sure doesn't hurt. As I mentioned earlier, it also gives you the added benefits of faux sound suppression (although you're not supposed to talk about it...lol) and mitigated concussion. This is a big deal to some shooters, because SBR's are OBNOXIOUS.
-
Makes my 7.5" run like a champ. Increases back-pressure to improve cycling with really short barrels, with the added benefit of directing sound and concussion forward and away from the shooter.
-
It's entirely possible I have too much free time...

Longer rail = longer sight radius, more mounting real estate, and more surface to grip with support hand. The drawback to a longer rail is added weight.
-
So long as you can easily re-convert the gun to its original OAL, as listed on the Form 1 (read: keep the original upper, or at least an upper with the same length barrel). As for your earlier question, I have a 7.5", a 10.3", a 14.5", and a 16", but each has its own receiver. Only the 7.5" and the 10.3" are SBR'd, as the 14.5" is pinned. The 10.3" wears a Surefire flash hider, and the 14.5" and the 16" wear Surefire brakes. They're all going to share the 556-212 I purchased last February if it ever makes it to my local Class III (darn BATFE). I'm not sure I'd go through the trouble of SBR'ing a receiver if your only upper is a 14.5", but the multiple upper route is a good and cost-effective one. Good advice. Sounds familiar. And the rail in the pic is actually a Daniel Defense RIS II Mk18. I've got the FDE version on my Mk18 clone (10.3").
-
For a general purpose SBR, I'd go with either a 12.5". Not as compact as a 10.5", but more reliable and significantly more muzzle velocity for shots at longer ranges. I'm not a big fan of muzzle brakes on SBR's. Shoot one, and you'll see what I mean. It's like getting punched in the side of the head...lol. As for flash hiders, I'd go with a suppressor mount since you might suppress it down the road, anyway. My personal preference is the Surefire FH556-212a. Surefire suppressors are top-of-the-line, and even if you never get one, the 212a is still a pretty damn fine flash hider. If you DO think you'll be suppressing in the not-too-distant future, I'd also highly recommend a complete Noveske upper with switchblock. The switchblock lets you regulate your gas system when switching between shooting suppressed and unsuppressed. The 12.5" switchblock upper is GORGEOUS...IMHO, of course.
-
If you're building the gun yourself (or having it built) on an existing receiver, then you'll use the BATFE Form 1. There are already existing threads on that process, so I won't go into detail here. As for your other questions, I'm afraid we're going to need a bit more information. I assume you're talking about an AR-type rifle, but I don't know that for sure. Can you clarify? Also, what will be the primary purpose of this particular rifle? Close quarters? General purpose? Do you ever intend to suppress it?

Interesting situation this evening
Seaslug replied to dunndw's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Good eye! And as for the velcro, it peels right off. Any residual glue left behind just balls right up on the pebbled surface with a little rub. You could probably get it to fit between the seat and console if you wanted, but there's so little room (at least in mine), that it would REALLY make the draw an ordeal. -

For those that have flow-through consoles like myself, I've found that I really like this setup. Glock 19 in a Crossbreed Ohai: (Ohai Modular Holster | Crossbreed Holsters - Ohai Modular). The draw is smooth and simple when seated, and the holster is completely concealed from others by my right leg. -
Now that's pretty funny right there. Wonder how many folks will actually get that? And add my name to the list of folks who are amazed that there is a forum for Tacoma owners. Looking at the OP's username, do you think he was trying to spell 'DIESEL'? Or is 'DESIEL' some hip, new moniker that only Tacoma owners would understand?

I'm not a big fan of pistol-mounted lights, because wherever your light goes, your muzzle goes. Therefore, I don't have any experience with lights on the two G22's I've owned. As you've already noted, though, the problems are well-documented, so making compensatory changes is not something I'd even consider if I intended to carry the weapon for self-defense. My advice? Keep the mag and lose the light. Get a good handheld light and train with it (using the Surefire technique, et al.).
