  1. I shoot IDPA with what I carry, either a Kimber 4" Pro Raptor, or a 3" Kimber CDP II, both in .45 caliber. Like the OP stated, it costs me twice as much in ammo compared to a 9mm. One of these days I'll shoot my Baby Glock 26 just for the fun of it. And if .45 ammo gets much more expensive, I'll trade off one of my Kimbers for a nice 5" Springfield or Colt 9mm. I'll never get good enough to actually compete with some of those Wild Bill's and Annie Oakleys but, sure is fun and I can see some improvement in my shooting. Have fun!
  2. A white 1962 Rambler convertable red top stick shift. Ugly, but got me from point A-Z, no chick magnet though. My second car was a 1964 dark blue Chevy Impala with a 283 ci. and 2 bbl. carb. Once from a roll, I beat a Corvette with a 350. Could not beat my dad's 1962 Chevy Impala SS w/ 327, but close. Raced some Mustangs with 289, but sad to say, I gave them a race sucking their exhaust! Had Crager mags all around on Impala but didn't do much good on Hall Street. Ahh.. The good ole days! For some reason, I paid special attention to my back seat when I had to take my parents somewhere?
  3. Do you really think in this day and age of politics, where lobbyists out number Congress 10-1, we're getting anything the status quo doesn't want for a nominee? This political process has become corrupt to its' core. It takes tens of millions of dollars to run for president. Where does the majority of that money come from? Corporate campaign contributions, the government and meager individual contributions. The majority of campaign contributions comes via corporate interests and special interest groups. Do they throw money at these individuals for a tax write off or expect something in return? Unless you live under a rock, you know the news media (news papers, television, "movies") are liberal and extremely bias. Name one, just ONE major news outlet that is not liberal and bias? And IMO, FOX news does not qualify anymore. The hippy, draft dodging, pot smoking, experimental drug guru college students have come to age and infested our universities, public schools and government with liberal thinking. Check all the liberals from Ted Turner to Jane Fonda, Donald Trump to George Clooney to Alan Greenspan. They do nothing but further the liberal agenda. It would be interesting to know the percentage of liberals (takers), and their off spring, that honorably served in combat positions in the military, to defend this great nation. My way of thinking is; a liberal (Democrat) wants to take what you earned by the sweat of your brow, and give it to his choice of beneficiary who didn't earn it for votes, and call it an entitlement. A conservitive (Replublican) wants to do it also, but under the guise of more rules. Sorry about the rant. I just don't like it when the government dimishes my ability to provide for myself and my family through hard work. And gives a large portion of my labor to the morbidity obese lazy welfare entitlement receipients, driving a better car than I do, buying things I can not afford to buy in my budget.
  4. All through out history, there has never been a nation, country or kingdom that didn't fall economically when their currency was fiat and script, and their people's realized it was worthless. Sound familiar, think it can't happen here? Anyway, when this happens here in the good ole USA, and a 55 gallon drum of dollar bills won't buy a loaf of bread, consider this... Would you get out of bed and go to work and not get paid for it? In a national emergency and a society breaking down, would you leave your family to go to work? Just pondering. Thinking a pimple on an elephants butt, Katrina... What do you think would happen during a financial collapse with say, prisons and jails? With literally millions of violent felons in our system, what would happen to them when the correctional officers abandon their positions in favor of protecting their families, property and try to squeek out an existance? Would they be released to reek more mayhem on society? Left in prison / jail unattended and un-supervised? Military take over the jail / prison system? With no satisfactory immediate compensation available and perhaps a promise of future benefits, would you go to your job? What would you do?
  5. IMO, if you break into my house and then return, something inside me tends to think it's not for my benefit. Would I be scared and in fear for my life against two BG'S, damn tooten. Would being a victim of such a violation of your sanctuary trigger a vigilante response? In me, you bet your bippy! Would a cool head and common sense prevail? Unless you want to personally MEAT Bubba in person, you better hope so... A home invasion no doubt will trigger fear, panic, revenge, hatred, and action all at the same moment. If I were on this guys jury of twelve, the worst possible outcome would be a hung jury and the best would be Jury Nullification. It's time to stop giving criminals more rights than their victims and give them a taste of their own medicine. Should criminals be treated like humans caught in the act of a violent crime or in prison? Or treated like an animal? IMO, a human possess's and exercises compassion, empathy, respect, logical reasoning, love, civilized, not voluntarily introduce mind altering drugs into yourself, take personal responsibility for one's own actions and not blame everything else. What separates us from the animals? Under my impressions of what a human is, are hard-core felons human? Should we take the higher road and be "civilized", show compassion and forgiveness, slap their wrists with three hots and a cot. You tell me... Soap Box / Off
  6. Some thought provoking comments here on the subject of home signs. I have a couple of ADT signs on my property and a "Protected by Smith & Wesson" big decal on my back door window. Think I'll scrape off the S&W decal, as the more I think about it as a deterent, the more I think it could be a detriment of surprise and preparation for BG'S.
  7. Being a 9mm, probably like a wasp sting and may have even left a small red mark
  8. And I forgot how good you kids have it today. In the mid fifties I remember getting our first black and white TV set delivered. It was delivered the day after my only sister was born so, how's that for documentation? It was a free standing RCA unit with tubes and everything. I remember having a whole three channels, 2-4- and five. Saturday mornings was the best day, Heckle & Jeckle, Woody Woodpecker and I think Mighty Mouse? I remember the TV broadcast ending on all channels at 1:00 A.M. and that test pattern Indian image. I remember having to constantly adjust the verticle and horizontal controls to get the picture from flipping until the TV warmed up some. I remember having to adjust the rabbit ears to get the best reception. I remember the good ole days! I remember how excited my mother was getting an automatic washer. I remember the washer that had the wooden squeeze things with the handle to squeeze out the water. I remember listing to many programs on the radio in the basement while mom did the laundry, before we had TV. The Lone Ranger as an example. Most of all, I remember going to the dentist. The pain and burning smell and smoke out of your mouth was terrible! Correct me if I'm wrong but, I don't remember getting anything like novocain. I remember my worst arguements with my mom was about going to the dentist in the 50"s. Can you imagine what it was like a century or more ago when you had multiple tooth aches? I tried pulling out my own toothache once a long time ago, it was even loose, and I couldn't get it out. I'll bet tooth infection was a major cause of premature death for our ancestors. How many people back in the day brushed their teeth? I don't think the tooth brush was invented until about 1850. Can you imagine a face to face talk or other with your spouse before a tooth brush and mouth wash? No honey, let's not French Kiss! Well guys, so much for breakfast...
  9. Ah, good post and down memory lane. Wasn't it great to be a kid, no responsibilities, door seldom locked, milk delivered in glass bottles to your door! Speaking of milk, I remember how tasty is was in the neat shaped glass bottles, and a bottle of choclate milk was a God send. Of course I'm talking about being raised in the 1950's. My favorite breakfast was poached eggs (with egg yoak still runny) with a dab of real butter. You know, I've never had a poached egg since I was a kid growing up? I don't know if they still make it but, I use to really like Malt O-Meal also with a big glass of Oveltine. Of course I liked the boxed cereal, mainly because most boxes at that time contained a toy or some sort of secret decoder ring. Man, would I like to go back in time to those days. My mother loved fried liver and onions. On occassion she would make it for her. I remember playing hard all day and coming home to the smell of that liver & onions frying. How wonderful it smelled! Believe me, I still remember my first taste of that liver as a young child. My mother continued to coax me to try it again for many years. To this day, I can not even bait a catfish hook with liver, least I get the shakes. You can't get anything by me... Evidently it was thought at that time, a liver product had some sort of vitimine or mineral a kid needed. So, I was introduced to something called a "Brownswagger Sandwich"? At six years old, as soon as my toungue sent the message to my brain that it was liver, suffice it to say it was not swallowed. My mother didn't appreciate where it all ended up. I can't tell you how many times I've been told, it doesn't taste like liver, try it... Bull-Liver... Shall we talk about "child abuse"? In my childhood when you became sick, or played sick to take the day off school, it's Vicks Vapor Rub time! Most of you probably don't remember Vicks Vapor Rub but, it was a smelly greasy air-a-matic distraction to a good fart. It was rubbed on my neck, chest and upper lip, and a "baby diaper" was wrapped around my neck to keep it in. How gross! I won't even mention the Vick's inhailer. When I got the mumps and chicken pox, guess what, Vicks Vapor Rub time... That quickly learned me not to fake being ill to take off school. And speaking of school... I remember how tasty the school lunches were. My father worked hard but we were in this day and age called lower middle class. I had to take my lunch to school for the most part. Bologne sandwich, a snack and a glass thermos of milk for the most part. On those occassions I could afford it cashing in soda bottles, etc., I'd eat the school food. Wonderful... If memory serves after all these years, the school lunch was 25 cents and a milk was 2 cents. Oh, the good ole days. Purple turtles, candy neckleces, wax soda bottle candy, Bazzoka bubble gum, baseball cards with that big chew inside, 5 cent chocolate sode, candy cigarretts, the local cobbler, mail delivery twice a day, coal furnaces, air polution and fog from the coal furnaces, doctors making house calls, interstates just becoming to exist, breaking the sound barrier for the first time, etc., etc. OP, you got me going on the old days. I really didn't think I would ever get to the point in my life I would be talking about the old days. Time has passed by at the speed of light and going faster everyday. Good post.
  10. Sorry guys, I didn't intend to open a can of worms. I proposed a scenario in my mind that most likely could occur in my dwelling. Having a plan of action after the fact, should it ever occur, is a must IMO. That includes possibly rendering aid to the scum bag and calling your lawyer. Regardless of the law, I wanted to know what you would do for the scumbag that broke into your home if you were successfull in stopping the threat. I never want to experience a situation like I described but, it occurs more and more frequently in our society today. Not just in the "hood" but everywhere. Drug addiction, home invasion, gang-banging, serial killing are the norm today. Everyday you become more likely to become a statistic of home invasion and violent crime. If you believe the governments statistic's you believe in Santa Clause. We have millions of convicted murderers, drug users, pedophiles, car jackers, thief's, pimps, etc. in prison. Everyday we have them re-entering society after their liberal sentence is complete. They're three times that walking our streets on probation, parole and have not been caught for their first offense yet. This day and age isn't the 1950's I grew up in. Sure, there has always been murder and crime through out all of history. But, am I the only one who has witnessed an exponential explosion in heinous crimes in the last 20 years? I'm a compassionate person of deserving people. I believe if you broke into my home you are not deserving of compassion and are not deserving of anything other than your own fate. All interesting and thought provoking posts guys, thanks!
  11. Sound asleep, you suddendly "think" you heard a loud noise in your house. With cob webs still floating around in your head, you half fall out of bed and look at the alarm clock. It's 2:47 A.M. as you quickly grab your home defense weapon next to your bed and flash light right by it. You whisper to you wife, who also was awaken by something, "did you hear that? Do you know what or where it came from? Stay here, I'll check it out". As the cob webs slowly turn to alertness, you think about calling 911 but, you're not even sure anything is wrong and don't want to tie up an emergency number for a false alert. Suddenly, you hear something out of place but can't make out exactly what it is or where it is coming from. Could it be a faulty refrigerator fan motor, pot tipped over from the stacked supper dishes the wife left in the dish strainer, the furnace, an animal? You slowly make your way out your bedroom door to investigate. Your mind is racing with thoughts and you can start to hear your own heart beating, you hope it doesn't get any louder to give your position away. One of the many thoughts racing through your head is; I'm thankful my children are grown and left the nest. Your next thought is about your safety and your wifes. As you are slowly making your way around the house to investigate, being as quiet as possible in your tighty whities, you again second guess yourself about calling 911. But, you're still not absolutely sure your home has been invaded so, you slowly continue on, using your mini Surefire flash light sparingly. You have made your way down the hall and suddenly in the living room you see a large shadow in motion and heading toward you at seven yards away. As your handgun was at the ready, you light that shadow up coming fast at you. In 1/2 of a second you made a life altering decision. The information you processed in your brain in that "split" second was, it's a large male dressed in dark clothing, he has something un-identified in his hand, he is rough looking, he doesn't belong here. The next thing you're aware of is, it's totally dark, you can't see a thing, you smell gun powder and you're shaking like a leaf. You press the tail button again on your Surefire flash light and see that scruffy male in dark clothing laying on the ground and hear him moaning. It then comes back to you, you pulled the trigger three times and the muzzle flashes temporary blinded you. As you keep your handgun trained on this dude you rush over and turn on the living room light. In the light you quickly notice this guy is bleeding like a faucet. You notice to the right all the glass on the kitchen floor where you assume he had entered from. In the split second you had to make a decision to fire before he was on you, you finally see what he had in his hand, a tire iron. You yell up to your wife to call 911 and you hear her crying and asking if you're all right as she bolts down from the bedroom. You tell her again to call 911 NOW! As you're standing there shaking uncontrolably, your handgun bouncing around as if you were shooting a machine gun, you think to yourself, should I help this douch bag? Living in BFE you know the Sheriff's deputy's will take at least 10 minutes to get there, and that's if one is cruising around the area. It could be up to 45 minutes for them to arrive. You know this because many times you've listened to the scanner as the deputy calls back on the radio to dispatch asking for direction on how to get there. Now that 911 has been called, you have to make a tough decision. It appears that douch bag connected with two of your rounds and they appear to be in the upper torso. He's bleeding all over your 3 week old carpet. It would be a safe bet he's some sort of junkie. So, what would you do? A. Render aid. Try to stop the bleeding and if he goes into arrest, administer CPR. B. Keep covering him with your weapon. He could be faking it and waiting for an opportunity to escape. C. You're an environmentalist and see a waste of oxygen and want to conserve the O2 for future generations.
  12. I got my only tattoo at Hopkinsville, Ky. in 1973 on my arm. Naturally it was a womans name and we got divorced in 1977. I got remarried in 1980 and needless to say it's a sore point. Over the years I did some research on getting it removed. Years ago it was the skin graph method, very painfull and normally it didn't remove everything, I was informed it kind of depended on the ink used. Fast forward to the modern age. I was at a dermatologist about ten years ago for a problem with my daughter. I seen a sign about tattoo removal and inquired about it. Well, my tatto translates to THREE square inches. It is estimated at $1,000.00 per square inch for laser removal for three sessions. Depending on the ink used, it could be more laser removal trips and more costs. To top that off, the Doctor told me the pain is about twice what it was to have it installed, OUCH! No pain relief while it is being laser removed, period. You are encouraged to take a couple of Tylonal when finished after a session. So, IMHO, the only logical place to get a tattoo removed is a dermatoligist with laser removal. Look in your local yellow pages for one. At my old age, I don't want that kind of prolonged pain. I'll let mother nature take care of it when my body is dead and rotting. JMHO. Good Luck. P.S. I seen a guy who had the laser removal and it was completely gone, with slight scaring. P.S.S. (Edit) Seen a program awhile back where you could get your tats removed for free for various reasons. Might want to Google free tattoo removal and see what pops up? Just trying to help.
  13. Welcome from the state capitol, "PARIS, Tn."
  14. Yep! Only had mine a year now and very happy with it. Lost a buckle screw and got a replacement for a buck in less than a week.
  15. You didn't mention if there were any wooden stairs involved? If so, I would definately brace them up. Personally, I paid to have my 880 pound safe moved to its resting place. A local rental store had a four wheel dolly with straps rated at 1200 lbs. I could have rented but, I had a flash of common sense. At my age injuries take a long time to heal and missing smashed limbs even take longer The only thing I had to do was remove one door frame to get the safe in. The best $225.00 I ever spent. Remember, when that safe starts moving, it won't stop on a dime. Oh yea! If you move it yourself, make sure you level / brace your door thresh holds. Very important! Good luck!
  16. You guys are so cruel and hardcore! I'll bet a dollar to a donut these children are so misunderstood. I'd suspect their up bringing was rougher than normal and they may not have even been breast fed. The solution is tolerance, understanding and no profiling to offend them, after all, it's just a game! They need compassion, understanding and love. Most likely, we should have not been there in the first place. The American people need to learn how to read gang "tags". If you see an area that is "tagged" you are not legally allowed to be there. If you didn't see a "tag", you probably should not have been there anyway. Remember folks, these children are only a image, shadow and reflection of their parent. They be needen moe love and understanding. Not an ATTITUDE! I know they don't really mean it, because if they get unlawfully caught by the profiling police, each and everyone of them is sorry and repentant. So, let's cut them some slack and concentrate on how more money and laws can solve this perceived problem...
  17. Yep, the big red sign is on the Regions door I bank at also, makes no logical sense to me. This bank has been robbed twice in the last two years. Even if this bank allowed CCW and I was unfortunate enough to be present during an armed robbery, I'd try to stand back and watch the show. Hell, I wouldn't even be a good witness! I wouldn't be able to decide who was the bigger thief. Yea I would, the armed robber is only trying to steal thousands. By the force of law and policy, Regions is stealing millions.
  18. Well said! I totally agree. I'm going to look up the closest Starbucks to me and if one is a reasonable driving distance, I'll stop by and have a cup of Joe and be well concealed.
  19. I'll vote for that if you include taxpayers and property owners. I lived in a POS house and small lot until I retired. The property taxes grew to over $4,000.00 per year in a crime ridden neighborhood. This all came about from the welfare recipients, Section 8 people, food stamp wastes, non-employed voting my taxes up to the point I could no longer afford nor desire to co-mingle with the scum. I'd like to put my hand out too, both of them, and not have to work. Where's mine?
  20. I had the same thoughts. I shoot skeet and trap. I ended up buying a Remington 870 Express 12 ga. brand new from $350.00, added a side saddle and Surefire forarm and light, 7 rd. capacity for home defense. Since I like to shoot skeet / trap, I splurged on a Browning 12 ga. over / under Citori. As far as the wife knows, I paid $350.00 for it also If I were limited to one gun for dual purposes, I believe I would select a used Browning A5. Might be had used for $600.00? Good luck. JMO
  21. Yep she is but... With one round house kick from Chuck, whamp, instant 40 pound weight loss. Chuck's image, shadow and reflection are all scared of him!
  22. Hey Ya'll, I looked around the knife forum for an answer to a question I have with no luck. I bought a nice SOG folding knife awhile back and finally decided to check TN knife laws. Basically, other than switch blades, gravity, auto assist, etc., a blade length no longer than FOUR inches. My question: Where is this measurement taken, the cutting edge or the entire blade to the handle. I ask because the entire blade is a fraction over four inches, and the cutting edge is 3"+. Would any of you know? Thanks! [/img]
  23. Well, my mom use to tell me, "son, you just don't know when to keep your mouth shut"! However, if I may, I would like to chime in. I did several months of research on safes myself, including Patriot Safes in CA. I'm not going to bad mouth them, but suffice it to say I didn't purchase a safe from them. After exhausting all local sources, I took a drive all the way to Nashville (The Safe House) and took their tour. I looked at all their safes and price ranges and got a good one on one education about safes. They had many brands, sizes, models and prices to choose from. I got a brochure and pricing from them and drove 3 time zones back home, it seemed! I did some more research on what I was told to make sure no smoke was being forcefully introduced into my sphincter muscle, then decided which brand and model I wanted. IMO, it's much better to look at all the various safes in person and get the pros and con of each from a professional and certified locksmith. Also, I like the fact that if I have a problem, I can get it fixed by someone local (3 time zones away :-) I'm not getting anything for my opinion. The Safe House was very knowledgable, fair priced, delivered on time as promised and professionally set and set up. My only quip was when I ordered it over the phone. I didn't expect a 3% surcharge using a debit / credit card. Then again, I could have sent them a check if I wanted to wait longer. JMO. The jury is still out if I made a mistake on swaping out the mechanical lock for the electronic one. Sure is fast and easy getting into (5 seconds flat).
  24. If I lived near Nashville I'd definately pitch in, good job. I personally pick up a mile of litter on my country road. If more individuals like yourself would get involved, maybe people could start taking back their gang infested neighborhoods. Speaking of gangs, I noticed a MS-13 tag. I assume it's their territory?? Be safe!
