  1. There's got to be a better way? You can not become a President, Congressman or Governor without a ton of money. The majority of that money comes via, special interest groups, lobbyists, liberal media, Hollyweird, and corporate America. They don't dole out that kind of money out of the goodness of their hearts. They give it for political access, programs and laws that favors their agendas.. Technically, the politician is beholden to the campaign contributors, and not what's best for America or it's constituents. At present, there's many more lobbyists on Capitol Hill than Congressmen. It's become a corrupt and socialistic Nanney state. With precious few exceptions, it's an oxymoron using two words like, "Honest - Politician". Ron Paul and Zell Miller being in the few.
  2. Yes it is! There is no doubt we're getting another four more years of Obama, and you can quote me on that statement! Reason being; Ron Paul is going to split the Republican ticket just the way Ross Perot gave us Clinton. That's a crying shame. My Tara cards, crystal ball and chicken bones all concur
  3. Well... Sort of. McDonald's French fries, Kentucky Fried Chicken as an example do not taste as good as they once did. Because they changed the type of cooking oil to a "healthier" version. They changed due to liberal pressure and ad campaigns sponsored by the Federal Government. The same folks also "pressured" most fast food restaurants to also offer healthy alternatives on their menu's. In addition, the FDA has been trying to regulate fast foods because they claim it's a major american health issue and costing the government too much money.
  4. I bought a safe from them about a year ago. I have since emailed them with a couple of questions about changing the e-lock I just had to have, back to a mechanical lock. I drove a long way from Paris, TN. to view their safes and was impressed with their on hand selection. They answered my questions completely and I selected the Liberty Fat Boy for delivery. I got a good deal on the safe. They were honest and upfront with my dealings with them. My safe was professionally delivered when they said it would be and properly set up. I will be happy to do business with them again and appreciate a vendor that will take the time to insure you get the safe that's right for you. JMHO. I highly recommend them.
  5. Indeed. Me and my house are indebted to the brave men and women that have and are serving our great nation. A heart felt gratitude and unforgotten debt goes to the service members and their families who gave their full and last measure defending our nation. God bless our service members, the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.
  6. Me too Caster. I hate glasses, period. I have to have reading glasses to read this screen and/or paper. But hey, at 60 y.o. what can you expect? A couple of years ago I had to get my TN drivers license and had to read 2nd line from the bottom. I couldn't distinguish a C from an O, etc. So I said it really fast and guess the gal wasn't paying attention or felt pity for me? It's taking its toll on my IDPA scores as I couldn't get use to trifocals, much less bifocals? I've adopted my own philosophy though. It's no longer, "even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile", it's "even a blind old fart hits a target every once in awhile". Cheer Up!
  7. You got that right! And may I take the liberty to add a 4th & 5th. MTV2 for the Bellitor MMA fights and FX for the Ultimate Fighter Now that's reality TV... I'm reading the gun stuff while the wife watches her Real Housewives who ain't married, Dance Moms, etc. Yuck!
  8. That's right! Before FDR you had voluntary charity, family, church, neighbors and community volunteer organizations. Now it's the Robin Hood nanny state, taking from the productive by force of law and giving it to the politicians choice for votes. It diminishes the ability to provide for your own family.
  9. As with most government figures, the numbers are skewed to make the government look better. Look at what they use to calculate inflation and who they count for unemployment figures, etc. The numbers are well over 50% when you add those receiving such handouts as Section 8 housing, Earned Income Tax Credit and other wasteful spending.
  10. Welcome and enjoy your freedoms in this great state of Tennessee. A bunch of good folks on here.
  11. Jest if you will, but it's coming and they're getting people accustomed to the idea.
  12. I wish I had the Outdoor Channel.
  13. There's nowhere to run! The scumbags are everywhere. That's pretty desparate hearding up 14 people with just the two of them.
  14. Nope... A .22 pistol to check your indoor marksmanship
  15. I've seen more snakes on my property this spring than the last three years I've lived here combined. Probably because of a rodent and skink population explosion? Personally, I would not be comfortable with a rattle snake on my property.
  16. Talk about a reality check? The wife and I were deep asleep when this piercing sound woke me up. Coming out of such a deep sleep, it took me a moment to realize it was the burglar alarm. If any of you have an ADT system with that ear piercing whistling siren, you know what I’m talking about. We have had this system for about a year and a half and have never had any false alarms. I was thinking of that and many other things as I grabbed my S&W 686+, .357 magnum pistol sitting on top of my nightstand next to me. I also have a Remington 870 shotgun loaded with 00 buckshot next to the bed. I realize now the shotgun is just too unwieldy for the configuration of my home. Shaking and somewhat confused on what to do next, not being able to hear anything because of the ear-piercing siren, I decided the siren had to be turned off because it could not be tolerated for any length of time. The single control panel is located in the kitchen at the opposite end of the house. The siren is located on the hallway wall half way between the bedroom and kitchen control panel. As I slowly and carefully made my way down the hall while checking for intruders, the siren was actually hurting my ears, and my hands were shaking. We always keep a living room lamp light on. After checking the living room, dining room and kitchen and seeing it was clear, I disabled the siren. What a head relief! Fortunately having a pair of reading glasses near the alarm control panel I checked the code on the read out. Code 02, basement motion detector. This is where I always suspected to be the most logical place for a BG to enter. The motion detector immediately activates the alarm, not the 45 second count down for the windows and doors. At that moment the telephone in the living room rings, we don’t have a phone in the bedrooms. I’m certain it’s ADT calling about the alarm. The wife had followed me down a few moments later. The door leading to the basement has the standard doorknob lock, a dead bolt and one of those useless chain things with the tiny screws securing it. I tell the wife to answer the phone as I am covering the basement door hoping no one will come barging through. The ADT person tells my wife, “we have received an alarm from your address, Code 02 basement motion detector, what is your password?†The wife is relaying this information to me as my eyes are trained on the basement door. The ADP person asked my wife, “are you going to check the basement or do you want us to send the police?†With hands still shaking I thought for a moment… To me, the best course of action was to get the police here, quick. She informed my wife they are calling. It was probably 3-4 minutes from the time the alarm went off until ADT called, assuming I immediately awoke when the alarm went off. I have a police scanner sitting close to the alarm panel I seldom use and thought this was an opportune time to turn it on to monitor the Sheriffs progress. I live in EBFE and sure enough, the deputy sheriff called dispatch for directions. The dispatcher called and informed my wife that the deputy was here and unchaining my driveway gate. The deputy later informed me it was policy to call the homeowner before arrival for safety reasons (home owner with gun). It took roughly 20 minutes for the deputy to arrive. While waiting for the police to arrive I happened to look at the clock, a few minutes after 3 A.M. Thinking to myself, from what I’ve read, two to three o’clock seems to be the prime time for home invasions. Seeing the police car driving up my 200+ yard driveway, I pondered what to do with my handgun. Put it away or keep it near and cover it with a towel or something. Since he was on scene I felt comfortable enough to take it back where it came from. I didn’t know if he would come to the front or back door so I turned on the front and backlights and opened the doors. He cautiously approached the back door and announced sheriffs department and I made myself visible and told him to come in. I gave him a brief description of what happened and the alarm code. He told me the first bit of good news was my gate was closed and chained when he arrived (no pad lock, just a clip). He then cautiously opened the basement door with flashlight in hand, turned the basement light on and slowly started down the stairs. I’m thinking, dude, you need to have your handgun drawn? I’m reasonably certain someone broke in and might still be there. But, I’m not about to say anything as he is a professional and is trained, it’s my over active imagination probably. After what seemed to be an hour, but probably only 4-5 minutes, I hear the officer coming up the steps. He was down there for quite some time. Now I’m really wondering where they broke in from and how much damage was done. He asks me a couple questions about my garage door, something about if it locks? The single car garage is separated from the basement with a flimsy hollow door and dead bolt. With great anticipation, he finally tells me everything looks secure and there was no break in. I can’t tell you the relief my wife and I experienced at that news. It still took us a couple of hours to calm down before we could attempt to go back to bed. Before departing, the deputy complemented me on my Liberty safe in the basement and we talked a good ten minutes on what could have caused a motion detector false alarm and crime statistics in my county, etc. before he left. A good guy! Lessons learned: While I am fortunate this was a false alarm and grateful for such, what if it was the real thing? After the deputy departed, one of my first thoughts was, I need to get me a good alert / guard dog. But in retrospect that might not be a good thing. I had a good alert dog at my previous residence but has since passed away from old age. We had the same ADP alarm system and my wife burnt something in the oven and set off the smoke alarm. The dog went crazy yelping and running around from the high pitch loud noise. Seems to me that would be one more distraction to deal with in an emergency? The shotgun is too unwieldy for me to use indoors with the configuration of my home. Guess I’ll put it back in the safe as it is a better outdoor defense gun, and I don’t “plan†on checking out or confronting anyone outdoors at night. I have a phone jack in the bedroom. I need to get a hard line phone for it today because that’s the number the police will call upon arrival, the telephone number of your alarm system the ADP people give the police. I have a set of electronic earmuffs in my range bag. I’m going to put them next to my home defense pistol. I wonder if they will muffle the ear piercing alarm? With the alarm off they do enhance your hearing significantly, which is an advantage. Most importantly, I need to get some training and work on my mind set. Instead of trembling hands, I should have been pissed someone has the balls to break into my home. For me anyway, seems my best laid plans went out the window when that alarm went off! It also a different story when it’s daytime and you’re prepared, alert and condition yellow compared to at your most vulnerable, asleep in bed. Sorry about being long winded.
  17. Very interesting. I was also considering getting a feeder calf or two for the freezer. This former city boy got the free chicken eggs down pat, but as I learned, with the oyster shell, feed and scratch, they're not exactly free eggs. And cleaning out the coop and run is no picnic either. As to the OP question about feeder calves; considering all the hassle and possible veterinary bills if they got sick, taste and price to get transported, butchered and packaged, is it really worth the trouble? Could you possibly save 50% on your beef bill compared to the meat market? As far as any tax breaks for farming or wild life habitat here in Tennessee, the only thing I could find had to do with having 15 acres or more for any tax incentives. So, I'm a few acres short myself.
  18. I did a little Internet research on a number of activist high profile Hollywood actors and politicians who are liberals. By no means could this be construed as an accurate cover all, but I found it interesting. If I had the time, which I don't, I'd be interested to find out if it's the general rule for the liberal mind set. I should mention names, but in the interest of maintaining a low profile, I'm not. 95% of those I looked at had no military service at all, in fact, a number of them at one point in their lives has disparaged or protested our military. The few that had any military service were obviously doing it for self gain to further their career objectives. That fact was obtained from statements made by superior officers and unit members, and the possession of documentary equipment and /or personal in the field. Each actor and politician I checked had charitable contributions of well less than 1%. Those that exceeded 1% went to liberal causes and organizations I deem obnoxious and / or immoral. The overwhelming majority want forced charity via taxation and wealth re-distribution. Each one I could find an opinion on was totally against the death penalty. Reading and watching interviews, by far the two most commonly used words were; me and I. I'm not making any accusations. I just noticed some common ground they all seem to have and found it interesting. Do y'all think this is an accurate representation? Any liberals want to chime in on my flawed un-scientific sampling? Am I wrong?
  19. That brought back a memory. Spent 38 years living in Illinois and moved here a couple years ago. The only wild rattle snake I ever seen wasn't far from Clarksville in 1973 when stationed with the 101st. All my country neighbors tell me, "naw, ain't none of the rattlers around here"! This spring I have seen just about every native species except the rattler. In fact, I've seen more snakes on my property the last two months than all of since I've lived here. Guess it's because there's so many field mice / rats around here last couple years?
  20. I'm biting my tongue so hard, my fingers are bleeding all over my key board...
  21. This must be the year of the snake. I've noticed an increase in rodents around here the last couple of years. Also, this spring I have seen more snakes around here (NW Tennessee) than the previously three years combined. Fortunately, no rattle snakes.
  22. Yep, everything said above and plenty of desiccant. If you have an electrical outlet inside your safe to plug in your Golden Rod, make sure the outside of the safe where the electric comes in is well sealed also. Make sure you don't have any finger prints on blued surfaces or you'll have a personal finger print card. Don't store pistols in gun rugs either, they retain moisture.
  23. This is how it all starts! Originally I wanted a garden about 30' x 30', so I went to Lowes and bought a front tine tiller, brand new in the box even! Did the maintenance on it, gassed it up, pulled the string twice and away we go... With the rock hard ground and the race horse in front of me running wind sprints, after thirty minutes this old man was done, literally.I got all of five feet done. There's got to be a better way, he thinks to himself, so... Two hours later, he comes home with this. Three hours and a twelve pack later, he has four separate garden plots. Moral of the story: Don't drink and till...
  24. Every city and town I have ever read about has denied they have a gang problem, until it gets out of control. Then they admit they don't have the resources or expertise to deal with it and call in outside agencies. They invented a political word for more votes, "plausible deniability"...
