Cop Shoots and Kills Unarmed Ex-Soldier Near LaGuardia
Dennis1209 replied to daddyo's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Most reporting these days are not the days of old, where who, what, where, when & why were the reporting standards with fair and balanced mixed in. These days not even reading between the lines in major media will give you the facts, but only opinions, speculation and the now popular liberal spin. Our news media has been taken over by the Vietnam war protesting, draft card burning, draft dodging, old money, pot smoking but doesn't inhale, socialists for a pacifist society. All major media outlets these days don't differentiate between fact and fiction, just liberal spin to suit their own agendas. Rant / OFF -
state employee towards a civilian/customers?
Dennis1209 replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
In my experience I believe it's a U.S. wide attitude at DL facilities. It's ingrained they know you need them and you're an inconvenience and distraction from their paycheck as a state employee. The only exception to the above I have found is... Small town drivers license facilities tend to be much more friendly and courteous to those they serve. In my experience, it be the population, whether going to the smog inspection station, court house, etc. in the city, The moe people you crowd into a limited space, the moe arrogant and disrespectful day become. Over time, when you put up with attitude all day, even when you start out as a very nice person, you become conditioned to arrive at work with an unmovable chip on your shoulder. Ever wonder why ten times out of ten, when you have attitude placing your order at a fast food drive through, you get home and your order is all screwed up, and not for the better? Best check for a dead roach on that burger too! Even with no attitude, 7 out of 10 orders at a fast food drive through are going to be incorrect and not in your favor anyway, so why press your luck? Just the musings of an old fart, your mileage may very... -
Howdy Gentleman / Ladies, Have a little long winded question for y'all. Last Monday I decided it was time to prepare for the regional IDPA match tomorrow, 10-6-2012. I don't really keep track of my round count shot through my guns but, I believe I was approaching around 1,000 rounds on my Kimber CDP II, 1911, .45, so time to change the recoil and firing pin spring. Even though it's a real pain changing both the large and small spring on the Kimber guide rod, no problem, I've several spares. So... I venture down to my spare parts box and discover the only springs I have for it are extra power 21# springs for it, the factory springs are 18#. Oh WOW... I don't remember if I intentionally ordered extra power springs or not, or if I got an incorrect order? To late now, so I immediately got on the Internet and ordered a few 18# springs from Wolf. After that I thought, "oh well" and got out the gloves, propane torch, Locktite, etc. and installed the extra power springs. Today, at the last minute, I had the time and opportunity to shoot the gun and see if it cycled properly. No problem, works great, with the exception of... At my age, I had to use what I call the "monster" grip to rack the slide. Yes, three pounds made one heck of a difference racking the slide for me. The problem becomes, last month at our monthly IDPA match it was raining and my hands, gun and everything was soaked. Several times my fingers / hand slipped off the slide trying to rack a round with the factory 18# recoil spring. Now I have the 21# and it's suppose to be a drencher again tomorrow morning, so... That finally leads my long winded question too... And I checked the Wolf website and didn't see a satisfactory answer. If you're not shooting +P ammunition, what need or benefit is there using an extra power recoil spring? Would you suppose instead of changing it out around 1,000 rounds or so, you could get more out of it before replacement? Thanks all...

There's a lesson to be learned here... Alway, always listen to the little brain. When the little brain rises to the podium to speak, listen carefully to it. -
Close. Had two tastes of it when I was at McAllister Army ammunition plant in Oklahoma in the 80's. There were about thirty of us and we were thirsty for some suds that weekend. Sent two runners to a McAllister State liquor store and all they had was that Pearl formaldehyde. They bought their last 7 cases and brought it back. I'm here to tell y'all, I thought a beer was never brewed I couldn't pour down my gullet. I've traveled the world and sampled brews in third and fourth world countries. I've tasted some of the worst home made beer ever created in an unsanitary bath tub, and lied my ass of drinking the whole thing as I complimented the brewer. Popped the first can and took a swig and immediately spit it out, pronto. Man, that beer sat in the sun or got spoiled somehow, so I popped open a second can. I've never had the opportunity where I was forced to drink 100 degree Fahrenheit, 7 day old urine for survival but, the urine would go down much better than that Pearl.

Very nice hog! Humm... I've seen a number of charts indicating where wild hog populations were located in Tennessee and didn't notice Ft. Campbell as one of them? Any idea how long the pigs have been there and if they are expanding their range? Based on your descriptions, I'm a guessen a pair of domestics must have escaped captivity not long ago in that area and are going, "wee, wee, wee all the way home"? Reading the TN. regulations on wild hog hunting, it appears to me they're not serious about eradicating them from the state, but rather regulating them as a sport game. Another thing I've noticed here in my neck of the woods, we're being invaded with those nasty armadillos. One other question. Taste wise, is there much difference between a wild bore or domestic raised?

You Cardcutter are the winner! Thank you. A very large segment of our population has never even read the "Declaration of Independence" or our very own "Constitution"? Much less understands the meaning and sacrifices in life and limb we have endured to maintain our freedoms? To this day I'm in awe at the wisdom of our founding fathers and what they experienced and sacrificed. I'm proud of the heritage they bequeathed to me and don't want to see it squandered by socialist politicians and liberal anti-Americans.

Here's my only experience with a lottery winner. I was First Sergeant of a U.S.A.R. company in Illinois and a young woman in my company (E-4 / SP/4) hit the Illinois lottery for about 3 million dollars, if memory serves. The lottery was started only a couple of years prior if I remember right. Shortly after her win she naturally stopped coming to the monthly drills, being rich and all I assume? One of my duties was to separate members from service when they didn't meet attendance standards. It takes some time to separate members from the U.S.A.R. due to the lengthly process and slow snail mail paper work. Anyway, about six months into the separation process I get a call from this individual stating she wants to come back. The process has gone beyond my ability or the commanders to stop it, so basically she's out of the reserves. She confided to me she won just shy of three million dollars ($3,000.000.00) and was broke, and owed about one million in credit card and other debts. Go figure? Youth, I'll tell ya... If today I hit the lottery, first thing I'd do is hire an attorney. Tell the attorney to get rid of the wife for 50% or less and live happily ever after. Never answer the phone, I'm an orphan with no living relatives, have no friends, I don't talk to the liberal media and I never invest in anything. Thirty days after the check clears: My own personal cook. My own personal house cleaner. And my own personal 44 triple "D" live in assistant

The following is a brief quote from something seldom taught in our public schools anymore. It doesn't contain prevention of STD'S, feel good liberal ideology, birth control, health, feminism of our young men, or acceptance of other alternative life styles. I invite you to guess who wrote the following. "But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a Design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future Security". Hint: It's not Roseanne Barr, George Clooney, George Soros, Rosy O'Donnell, CNN, Jane Fonda or the Democrats. At what point will the American population wake up and realize the control our elected government exercises over our daily lives? And the diminished ability through excessive taxation for the average working Joe to provide for his family. With all the domestic problems we face here as a nation; our infrastructure has crumbled, natural disasters, our military has become ill equipped, our nations Veterans needing vital assistance, on and on and on... We spend hundreds and hundreds of billions of fiat dollars on national destruction programs like; welfare, aid to foreign countries hostile to U.S., aid to foreign countries devastated by disaster, aid to foreign countries to just allow us a presence, how Dragonflies can fly, how worms mate, pork barrel spending, corporate welfare, Wall Street bailouts, etc. etc. on and on... IMHO. We as American citizens have become the "subjects" of people control from out of touch politicians legislating us out of our house, home, heritage and generations to come. God save the Queen... That's a great deal! To bad he was sold out when I checked with him. I just paid through the nose for 1,000 rds. of PMC with the shipping. And I was lucky because most the places I checked were on back order. Seems the higher price for the bulk .223 is where to find it. Are we at the beginning of a popular ammo shortage?

Well, by taste, if you can only afford Pabst, Stag, Pearl, Coors or Colt 45 beer.... I'm sure it tastes much better that way

As a HVAC/R guy and based on your description, sounds like it's your pilot light thermocouple or flame verification safety device. If you have a thermocouple, it's a bi-metal coupler that generates mille voltage from heat to keep your gas valve pilot open. It sometimes takes up to a couple of minutes of holding the pilot valve down to establish a voltage before you depress the pilot valve knob. So try that first. If you have a new fangled type of pilot light flame sensor, try cleaning it. With ALL pilot light flame sensors, they must be positioned properly to generate the voltage necessary to open the gas valve. If it's a thermocouple, the oblong end needs to be directly in the flame with the most flame in contact with the bi-metal end. If it's the newer type of flame sensor, it needs the best view of the flame. Pilot light sensors are notorious for failing due to lack of use so you may need to get it replaced. They're generally very easy to replace, especially in a gas fire place. CAUTION: If you are not sure if your fire place has ever been used... Absolutely check and make sure you have the correct gas orifices installed in your fire place. As a "general rule", new furnaces, stoves and fire places come equipped with natural gas orifices installed, and a little baggy with the propane orifices to change out if you're on propane. Using natural gas orifices with propane will result in your personal very own flame thrower. Hope this helps.

I was wondering why there was no Bob White quail around here? It appears we have ideal habitat for them around here and in the four years I've lived here have only flushed one pair by accident. We have a good turkey and coyote population here. I wasn't aware turkey had anything to do with quail?

I had the same dilemma and fate intervened. One day I came down with a severe case of the "hankering", hankering the idea to scratch my itch and buy either the EMP or CDP II. So... That "one day" I suddenly found myself in front of the gun counter at LA Firearms in Union City, TN. As soon as I arrived at the gun counter, the gun sales associate seen me and immediately came rushing over and said, "son, I can see you caught a severe case of hankering, how can I help you? I relayed to him my symptoms and what it would take to get that "hankering" off my shoulders, an EMP or Kimber Ultra CDP II. He said, "son, I have the Rx you need in stock, if you want the generic brand I'll have to order it for you, and the EMP will take at least a couple of months to get" I said my hankering is getting pretty powerful, let's look see at that Ultra CDP II right there, no the other one to your left. As I picked it up I subconsciously started to fondle and caress it, and I started to hear whispering voices in my head, "you want me, you need me, you gotta have me, take me, take me"! I asked that sales associate if he heard that Kimber whispering to me and he stated it happens all the time. So there you have it, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I seen one of those snakes on my property for the first time last summer. Looked it up in my wildlife book and discovered the Rough Scale Green Snake is pretty common, and cool looking. I see box turtles all the time around here and stop when it's safe when I see them crossing the road and give them airplane fare off the road in the direction they're headed. That's probably against TN. law unless they're Criminal Box Turtles. -
I worked in a hospital for many years and use to get our free yearly flu shots. It never seemed to eliminate or reduce the flu symptoms for me at all. Talking to some of the doctors and nurse's about flu shots, it's a long range gamble, much like playing the roulette table on what strain of flu will make its way and then there's the mutation factor. In addition, about 2% of the population will experience symptoms worse than the flu from the shot itself. So, for me, myself, my shadow and my reflection... No thanks.

That's the ideal way to store your long term seed. I've used Baker seeds now for a couple of years and I'm very happy with their products and service.

I agree with that but would like to expand on my experience. They're coming to an urban area near you. One of the main principals of gangs is they want / need to expand and start new chapters with money producing street corners and drug houses. Mixed income housing and Section 8 housing is helping them do just that. As far as the gang infested neighborhoods not trusting the cops, that's a cultural and survival instinct. Trust me when I tell you the neighbors will "talk the talk" in the beginning of an infestation and do absolutely nothing, not even call the cops when they witness something for fear of retaliation. In the established "hoods", there's only Mamma's that are head of households so parental control is extinct. The "hood" is not going to report on their own neighbors, friends and family because it's income generation and personal survival.

As long as it is contained to gang-bangers, I've no problem with rodent / animal control but, you and I know it doesn't end there. Moving from a gang infested area, it doesn't matter how well you're armed because YOU have to follow the law, they do not (Illinois). I found it best to maintain a low profile, save funds and move to the country. It's impossible to protect your family, yourself and your property 100% of the time. All the best efforts of the police, alphabet soup agencies and citizens will only put a dent in gang related activities at best, then they come back even smarter. Civilized society and laws need to be changed if citizens are to have a chance of taking their "hood" back from the thugs. To date, I can't think of even one gang in any city that has been eradicated or one neighborhood taken back due to police / government intervention. In fact, the government is directly responsible for the mess we're in today with gang activity. Need I expound on that fact? The way I see it, there's only three possible solutions to the escalating problem of gang activity. The easiest of which is obvious, move if you can afford it, if not you're screwed. The second in my view is change the laws to support residents in high crime / gang infested areas, to allow them to legally fight to take back their hoods. And we all know that ain't going to happen! The third and most probable solution (drum roll please)... Is take away the money. That's what it's all about; money, turf, drugs and not having to morally work for a living, the easy life of Riley. Well how's that you maybe asking Doctor Dennis1209? The direction we're heading now young Grasshoppers, a cashless society, where Big Brother tracks and controls all financial transactions! Problem solved. Any other complex societal problems I can solve for you guys

Texas mom arrested for letting her children play outside
Dennis1209 replied to daddyo's topic in General Chat
It's a sad state of affairs when even an anonymous caller can make an accusation and get your children taken away to child services, happens all the time. Unless you know for a fact and/or witness a child is being neglected / severely abused, people should take the easy way out and mind their own business. There is a place for child protective services but, like all political / government programs, it's gotten way out of hand. "Spare the rod and spoil the child", how has that worked out for U.S.? -
good article on .223 vs 5.56
Dennis1209 replied to chances R's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Personally, I kind a like my gravity, I'd hate to live without it. I'm not going to press my luck by shooting anything in my .223 other than that. I'll keep my feet grounded, why tempt fate and chance it? What if gravity increased? -
I'm going to go against the grain here, only because I'm talking about ME! I don't carry my 1911 cocked and locked because my blood brother is Murphy. If it can happen, it will happen to me. For instance... Walking along in the front yard with only one 12" stick in all the yard, and it gets badly entangled in my shoe laces. Constantly get my pants entangled in my tractor controls almost every time dismounting the thing. My seat belt gets snagged on my 1911 many times while getting out of the vehicle. On and on... It only takes me a fraction of a second to rack the slide and I don't have to disengage the safety. Not saying that's the best way to carry for most people but, I'm not chancing a ND with my clumsy luck. As I like to say, "the world is a safer place when Dennis1209 doesn't carry cocked and locked"
