1. Y'all mind if an old fart interjects his opinion?   Back in my day, we still had TV and the published newspaper with fair and balanced reporting at that time. All major news stories were eventually reported, albeit not as fast as today's technological instant coverage. Murder and heinous crimes have been committed throughout all of U.S. history, no one would argue that fact.   But, back in the day (1952 - 1965), it was a rare occurrence to hear and read of such monstrous acts, though they did occur on rare occasions. These days the atrocities continue to increase in frequency and body count. I don't need to quote government statistics to realize that fact, it should be common knowledge to senior citizens, parents and grand parents.   I won't bore anyone with my Biblical views of the problem but, who would disagree the problems with humanity are getting worse by the year?   There is black and white, up and down, left and right, good and evil, total opposites IMHO. When our government legislates a change in our moral history, and by law, legislates evil as acceptable and a protected class, and good is subjugated into submission... Houston, we have a problem!   As a nation and people, we are not advancing to Utopia and the promised land, we are devolving into a cesspool. Knowledge is increasing expotentually and wisdom is as common as "common sense".   Look at the values and morals your beloved grandparents and great-grandparents had and compare them to today. Any change? Does our generation despise our forefathers so much as to destroy our traditional values and spit in their face and think they were stupid and old time?   What's changed to create this mess since my up bringing in the 50's?   Internet porn, the Internet in general, violent video games, Hollywood, FCC restrictions lifted on smut and violence on free TV, welfare, one parent families, hundreds of thousands of gang members, rap and violent music, borders unprotected, going to war where we have no business, liberals, separation of church and state, abortion on demand, public school liberal indoctrination, liberal college and universities, rewards for not working, drug use out of control, every one's a victim and protected class, no one should be responsible or accountable, NAFTA, GATT, NATO, WTO, UN, World Bank, on and on and on...   No wonder we're in the predicament we're in today with no natural compassion or respect for life. And our former and current government representatives are a reflection of the "peoples will" and created what we are now experiencing. And folks, it's not going to get any better!   I myself don't intend to be force fed anything that detracts from what made this nation great and "one nation under God".   OFF / RANT
2.
Ask my ancestors? Heck, I'm fed up with moral decline, technology, and fast food. If I could speak to my ancestors, I'd want to know about life in their time. I expect they would be in awe of today's world, for a couple of minutes. About as long as it would take to witness some kid with his a$$ sticking out of his pants, cussing at his cell phone in a fast food restaurant because he can't get signal to text a naked picture of himself to his boyfriend.
Yea Motasyco, I know what you mean! I don't like many of the things going on today myself, in fact, I find many things despicable, but.. By way of miracle, you find yourself face-to-face with many of your ancestors for a Q&A, what would you really ask them? Myself, after I inquired about my family tree and allot of other stuff, I would ask how we got where we are today, even though I already know how we got here. I would ask how we could have prevented how we arrived here today and how we could correct its course. Not to start a political debate but, I'd love to talk to great presidents and statesmen like George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, (Dolly Madison), Jefferson Davis, Theodore Roosevelt and Andrew Jackson to name my favorites. That would be awesome. There is one I most would like to talk to back around 30 A.D. to answer my questions. Fortunately I will not have to fantasize about getting an answer, as I will be able to talk with him in person and ask questions before too long and get the truth.
3.
Those are not simple questions
That's absolutely right! But don't you think those are questions we need to ask ourselves? Who are we as an individual? Why have we strayed from the ways, values, morals and teachings of our parents, their parents, their parents parents?
4. Shall we look at this realistically? If we were to boycott all the business's that were hostile to employees carrying guns on the job and no CCW by their customers in their stores, we would be producing all our own food, textiles and equipment. Agreed? You can't tell who's who without a score card. It ALWAYS boils down to money, liability and lawyers, period! Follow the MONEY! I don't need to tell you the fiscal business decisions a company has to make to keep their insurance affordable and liability responsibilities in check. It always boils down to the buck, period. The ONLY exception to this rule is me writing this dissertation for Free! A business has the right to develop a strategy to reduce liability and minimize law suits to sustain their business and make a profit and employ people. An individual, customer, employee has the God given right to defend his/her life. Hopefully, the two can meet in middle ground?
5. (1) Today, is this a nation your grandfather, great grandfather and ancestors would be proud of? If not, why? (2) If possible having a face-to-face with your ancestors, would your deceased ancestors be proud of your modern morals and acceptance of today's law's and moral values and law? (3) Personally, I believe our forefathers were tougher, smarter, more rugged, wiser, and more educated in matters that matter the most. If it were possible to go back in time, what would you ask your great, your great great grandfather if you only had the opportunity to ask three questions, what would they be? Would it be what he/she/they thought of our modern technology and exponential progress over the last century? Would it be about our new age laws, one world involvement, and moral decline? Would it be about our children playing with the computer, games, smart phones, etc., instead of going outside and playing Army or Cowboys & Indians. Eating Big Mac's instead of healthy food? I don't know, you tell me???
6.
pouring water into a bag is cooking?
"HOT" water! And yes, my wife definately considers that COOKING!
7. I was under the assumption that if you didn't pay back a government backed student loan, they would get it back one way or another, such as; not getting any tax return money back until it was paid, a bad credit rating, etc.?
8. It's a sad state of affairs when a public education and brain washing fouls your own children, and it's all my fault. I suspect I'm not alone in my failures, as documented in the latest presidential election. During their upbringing I was very busy making a living, doing home repairs, cutting the grass, and taking some time for myself hunting and fishing. I neglected their critical thinking thought process and left that to the public schools and my liberal wife. Long story short... My kids came down from Illinois to my home in Tennessee for Thanksgiving and spent a few days with us. All my kids are now adults and productive citizens of society. As a parent, you love your children unconditionally, period! But you sure can lose allot of respect on their choices and narrow minded thinking! Seems the younger generation now thinks they are owed something, and want instant gratification in owning a new home, two new cars, and keep up with the Joneses at tax payers expense. The working hard and saving for the future is not necessary, I'll borrow it and get it right now! During the course of their visit, the subject of politics came up and we discussed who we voted for. My son said he voted for Obummer because he was pro union, because he has a union job? My daughter said she voted for Obummer also because, he is articulate and looked better on TV? Damn, what a failure their father is, not spending any time informing them growing up on politics and its effects! Whether you want to admit it or not, I believe this is one reason we're in the shape we are in today. Our children have been brain washed in the public education system and not enough parental involvement to counter the socialist movement. My beliefs are so strong on our American freedoms and rights, I almost want to distance myself from them? When they need money and help, I'm tempted to tell them to ask Obummer for assistance. I can't believe my own children believe, as Americans, they are owed something, and entitled? My BAD... and it hurts.
9. The best I ever "felt" in my hand is the Ruger GP100. It's on my wish list but IMO not a good CCW weapon, heavy and bulky.
10.
A field repair kit like the one linked below and bolt would cover the majority of issues that would be field repairable. http://www.midwayusa...epair-kit-ar-15
Great, thanks! Just what I was looking for.
11. Hey Guys! Did a little search and didn't find what I was looking for on my topic. I bought a Rock River Arms .223 AR-15 not long ago. My budget (the wife) won't allow me to purchase a second one for a spare (go figure)? So far I haven't shot it much but there may come a time when I go out of state hog / deer hunting or unforeseen circumstances where I absolutely need a functioning rifle. So my question is... What spare parts do you keep in your range bag / gun case to repair your AR-15 if something breaks? If I were to venture a guess I would think anything that moves or compresses would be prime to eventually fail, such as; the bolt carrier group and maybe the buffer spring? What ya think the most frequent failures are in your experience? Thanks.
12. I'm "flip flopping" over the issue myself?
13. Just what the doctor ordered! However, due to distance it would be impractical to attend. If someone would record the seminar and sell it on a CD or DVD, that would tickle my fancy. Thank you for providing that great opportunity as it seems state specific training is difficult to obtain, much less a free bee.
14. I hope so too. The government doesn't have an income problem, they have a spending problem. It's mind boggling the money they waste on pork, stupid research grants on how Monarch butterflies mate, giving tens of billions in aid to foreign countries and your earned money to citizens who have no Constitutional or moral right to it.
15.
I don't believe we should kill thieves. Instead we should cut off their hands.
I totally disagree, that's much too harsh! A more humane punishment is "one hand" per offense. Everyone deserves a second chance!
16.
No we won't.
How about a few "love letters"? NAFTA, GATT, WTO to name a few in which we are active participants. Ever go to any of the hundreds of national federal protected lands representing millions of acres of land and see the UN flag flying under the American flag? If you do a little research you'll discover that flag is flying there for a reason. I won't tell you why, as I'd like it to be a surprise. Suffice it to day, it's not flying there to represent the interests of the American people.
17. Well, actually it's pretty simple, and they are well on there way to establishing that. Let's think about this for a moment, shall we? Under our United States Constitution, who is pronounced as giving us our rights? Has anyone ever read it? Anyone ever read the "Declaration of Independence? Are our rights granted by the government? Are our rights granted by the law or the will of the people? Hell no! Our rights are granted by our Creator, as acknowledged by our historical law. What the government giveth, the government taketh away over time. Is the government taking Christianity out of schools, public displays, the courts, our lives? Of course! Are they promoting alternative life styles on things once considered evil, and now calling them good and we should be tolerant and accept them, passing hate laws, brain washing our children in public schools, etc.? Remember, you heard it here first! Look at recent history and our election results. By the "will" of the people, things are going to change, and not for the better. Our supreme court will be a liberal court before long and change the direction of this nation "more" dramatically. Our Constitution is being systematically dismantled, right by right, need I expand on that fact? Here's how I see things unfolding... No, I'm not going to write a dissertation, as who other than someone reading this on TGO is going to care, I'll not waste anymore time, other than to say... We will go into an agreement with the United Nations where the Constitution is null and void, and our UN agreement will be law. To do that, watch the dismantling of our rights, Executive Orders, Congressional inaction, the liberals and Hollywood. Just the way I see things forming guys!
18. Gentleman, this is old news from the 19th century. Do you not remember your factual history taught in high school about serpents? Do you NOT remember the historical demise of our hero, "The Lone Ranger"? As history records it, the Lone Ranger was on the trail of a bad guy in the 19th century and had a serious intestinal problem. Mr. Ranger had to stop and exercise his bowl movement before "Hi Hoe Silver's" back became brown, instead of silver? The Lone Ranger rapidly found the closest bush and squatted, then... A rattle snake, not wanting to be dumped upon, struck the Lone ranger in the left buttocks. The following is the documented conversation that followed... Lone Ranger (LR) - Tonto, ride like the wind to town 15 miles East and get me the doctor there and bring him to me. Tonto - Ugh Kemosabie, me ride like the wind and bring back pale face doctor. Tonto: Arriving in town and finding the doctor busy delivering a baby and can not leave, tells Tonto what he must do to save the LR life. Make a small incision across the snake bite, suck out the poison, and bring Kimosabie back to town. Tonto rides like the wind back to the LR and dismounts keeping his distance. The LR asks, "well Tonto, where is the doctor and what did he say"? Tonto then explains to the LR why the doctor did not come .. The LR asks what the doctor told him about the snake bite? Tonto, him say, "Kemosabie, doctor, he say you going to die"!
19. I found a pretty new gun in the creek today! Back story... When the weather is half way decent, I like to take a little walk to loosen up my old bones. I normally take a left out of my driveway and walk the country road 0.8 miles one way and to the creek, today was the same. For some reason, people like to discard their deer carcasses in the creek and on the road side by my place this time of year, and I don't care much for that. As I'm walking slowly and quietly on the tar / gravel country road enjoying the day and my old age and still capable of getting out, I hear some leaves rustling, so I stop and freeze. Normally it's a deer or squirrel when I hear it. This time it was five turkey hens slowly walking in-line about 15 yards off the road, followed by a Tom about five yards behind. Cool, I enjoyed that, and continued my little old man march to the creek and back as I usually do. Yesterday I did the same walk at about the same time with no excitement except two cars passed me on the road, and one nice young guy offered me a ride! It sucks to look old and helpless when out for a walk and have nice young people stop and ask if they can give me a ride. It sucks not because there's still decent people out there trying to help, it sucks because you thought the day would never arrive you would become an old man. Anyway... After moving on from watching the turkey's, I had another 75 yards or so to go before I got to the creek. I usually walk slower approaching the creek because on occasion there are some ducks in the creek, and I don't want to scare them because I enjoy watching them. I also like to look into the water and see if there's any fish in there, but this time of year they have made their way to Kentucky Lake, which this creek flows to. The creek at this point is maybe six feet across and 2 feet at the outer bank, the deepest part. As I said before, I was here at the creek bridge about this time yesterday and visually looked everything over. About three months ago someone was cooking meth there as I just found out today? So, I approached the creek bridge on the left hand side walking facing any possible traffic. Clear skies at around noon and the sun shining directly into the creek and YOU COULDN'T MISS IT! There at the very edge of the water and only half covered with water was a very shiny object you could not miss because of the sunshine. Surely this has to be a toy? It wasn't there yesterday I know for sure. Looking at it from a top the bridge I see it is a gun, a shiny nickel plated gun. I don't think it is a toy because there's to much detail and the grips look great, at least that's what my old eyes see. I study this gun, a nickel plated / chrome / SS semi-auto pistol for probably 10 minutes from a top the bridge. There's no easy way to get down to it and retrieve it without going through thorns, cockle berries, mud and all kinds of nasties. I'm thinking to myself what to do, do I go down and retrieve it, sure would like to have this find? But me being me, I'm going to do what I think is the right thing. I call the Henry County Sheriff's department and tell them what I see. The Sheriff, Montey Belew asks me to stay there as he will send a deputy (25 minutes away of course). So I did of course. Prior to and during me reporting this gun, I'm thinking.... What if it's just a toy gun? I would feel so stupid wasting their time. I'm also thinking it's on the very edge of the creek and only half covered in water, maybe there's finger prints that can be lifted? Too much CSI TV in my mind? But being a firearms owner, I'm 75% sure this is a real firearm 10 yards below me. I'm also not the brightest bulb on the tree but, if you see a pistol / revolver in a creek at a bridge, it was thrown there for a criminal reason. Henry County Sheriff's Deputy finally arrives at the creek bridge I waiting at. It's a bit chilly and I'm wearing a long sleeve shirt covering my Glock 26 and thinking if I should tell the deputy I'm a HCP holder or not, "for our safety"? Well, he gets out of his squad car and I approach him, shake his hand and tell him I appreciate him coming out and tell him my full name, and I live just over there. I elected not to tell him I was caring a weapon. After all, he was in no danger from me nor was I from him. Why complicate things? So... I point out where the pistol is in the creek and he immediately sees it. The officer has a nice pressed uniform on with nice shined shoes, very professional, both in appearance and attitude. I offer to go down there and retrieve the weapon for him, as I'm dressed in jeans and nothing I wouldn't mind getting all messed up. The officer declines and says he will retrieve it. At this point I'm thinking, Dennis1209 if this is a play gun, you're going to be embarrassed! But, you just never know? Should I have even called the police for a maybe something? I previously looked over the area and suggested the best path to go down to retrieve the suspected gun. The officer followed my suggestion and went down and retrieved it. It was the best path IMO but, you should have seen him emerge, he was covered from the waste down in all those sticky things that can cling to you! It made me appreciate what our law enforcement officers do for us on a daily basis. After stumbling and about falling in a few holes, he finally made his way back to the road / bridge. I forgot to mention that when he got down there and picked up the weapon he pulled the magazine and cleared the weapon before he did anything else, very professional. Sitting on top of the guard rail looking at that beauty all that time, I tried to figure out what make / model / caliber it might be. It sure was pretty and shiny and didn't look worse for wear. When the Sheriff's Deputy emerged from the brush and briar's covered in briers, stick-ems, mud and dirt from the creek and walking to-wards me, I almost chuckled at how he looked like all covered like a deer hunter, then my mind shifted gears and I thought.... You know, this man is a representative of law enforcement around here. He just did a very unpleasant and soiling job for something not all that critical. He was professional and polite the entire time. I really admire and respect him and the job he does. I'm thinking, I really admire that, and if he's willing to do this for an investigative sort of thing, how far would he go to protect you and I when we ever needed it? It turns out the gun in the creek was a like new RAVEN .25 caliber semi-automatic, a Saturday night special according to the deputy. At this age some things have failed, but not my brain yet... I told the officer if the gun was not involved in a crime or if the rightful owner did not claim it, I get dibs! Just an interesting day I wanted to share with y'all...
20. I'm not certain about the post you're referring to but... This is one of the many reason I like this forum. You're honest, up front and communicate very well. You can discuss many more topics on this forum than many other gun related forums, and for that I am grateful. I certainly enjoy a civil debate on numerous topics here... Thank You!
21. Well, I like humor and jokes as well as the next guy, but the fact remains we just lost another long standing American company. I see nothing funny with that. One by one, our American heritage and dream has been dismantled and sent overseas to third world countries, or dissolved. It breaks my heart what our children will have to endure in the future. It breaks my heart from what we were, to what we have become, and it's no joke. I find myself wanting to be able to talk to my long deceased grandfather, great-grandfather and ancestors about this mess. They had wisdom beyond what I possess. Fortunately, there is one who knows and has predicted the future. I for one trust and respect that.
22. Welcome to globalization, maximum profits and how our government is making us equal, equally poor! Personally, I have a mixed attitude on that "great sucking sound of jobs leaving America", as Ross Perot coined it. But anyway you look at it, the Federal government is responsible for it. I'm going to ask a few questions looking at it from a blue collar worker (my view), a business owners point of view, the Union view and maybe the government's attitude. This basically applies to the unskilled work force. First off, are we as Americans and individuals "entitled" to good paying jobs with benefits and a safe working environment? There by reducing the profits of the business owner / company? Does an individual(s) who takes their savings he / she earned and take "risk" in establishing and running a company / business do it to solely provide jobs and benefits for the locals? Of course not, they do it for profit, to realize the American dream. Should I have a reasonable expectation or a guarantee to return home from my job alive, healthy and all my limbs still attached? Does a company / business actually owe their employees anything above and beyond their wages / benefits as the company grows and prospers? Shall we look at this realistically and do a little bargaining? During the industrial age in America, great profits were being made by the industrialists and business owners, at the expense of us, the American people. But they had paying jobs they accepted. Not satisfied with wages, benefits and safety... enter the collective bargaining unions to get a piece of the action. IMHO, unions in their time were needed and necessary to relieve the grip industry had over their employees. But like everything else, it got out of hand and went over board to the point the unions acted like they owned and ran the business / company. The unions just as soon let companies / business's fail rather than look at the "big picture" and future of the company (think coal, cars, etc.). Enter the local, state and federal governments with all their alphabet soup safety agencies (OHSA, NFPA, etc. etc.).As a retired federal employee supervisor, I'm here to tell you we spent at least 35% of our work day not on production / repair / production, but doing stupid training crap like step ladder training, employee refrigerator temperature daily checks and documentation, I could go on and on. All that B.S. non necessary garbage was hours / days taken away from actual "doing something useful". Where is the profit or incentive to start or keep a business going fighting the unions, the despicable government bureaucracy that drains capitol and production, all the rules, regulations and road blocks that hinder our American dream? Least we not forget another alphabet soup letter in the mess, the I.R.S. Has anyone here ever owned a business? How about all the crazy documentation that is required for your taxes? How about paying your taxes a "quarter" ahead before you make a penny on your anticipated earnings? B.S. Tell me Mr. Achiever, why would you not take your business elsewhere? There's still opportunity in America to be had if you're willing to work for it and have a bit of ambition to improve yourself and make you attractive to a prospective employer. Change is certain. I had to roll with the punches, adapt and work hard and improve to make my way in life. This getting hired by a company your grandfather, dad and you got hired by and expect to retire from it, are now going overseas to a cheap labor pool with little or no government regulations / restrictions. To sum it up, China owns us, the third world countries are on our heals, and if you want to read this diatribe in ENGLISH, press two! Como? P.S. I forgot to mention, by WTO agreement, we are required by "law" to purchase many products, produce and food from other foreign countries, not our own producers. We've dug a hole we can't climb out of. I seldom eat Hostess products because I can make a meal out of them. I love those Twinlies, Snow Balls and Cup Cakes!
23. This topic gets my dander up so give me a minute to run to the basement and collect my soap box podium... The Federal government has no business in our collective hive schools, much less dictating what is to be taught, how to teach it, standardize it and fund it. In far too many cases, our schools have become nothing more than day care centers, distractions and obstacles to children who want to learn and are held back. If you know your history, you're aware children were much better educated in the three "R's" prior to the Fed's involvement. Does our "Bill of Rights" include a right to an education, or a free Bachelor's degree paid for by tax payers for convicted prison felons? How's this mess all working out? Too much class room time is wasted on health education (sex education), gay life style and diseases, etc., that's the parents responsibility. If you're a parent, take a look at your child's books and study material selected and approved for them by a national education agency. They're being indoctrinated and brain washed into liberalism, not free thinking. Our Colleges and Universities are even worse and they're paying big bucks to get brain dead? First and foremost, it's the parents responsibility to teach their children "everything". Right from wrong, good from evil, math, reading, history, the birds and bee's, ethics, political science, health, physical fitness, etc. It's no one else's responsibility, period. Many parents don't have the knowledge, skills and abilities to provide a quality education in all aspects of learning for their children, so... The COMMUNITY gets together and determines how to best share knowledge / resources and transfer it to their children in the form of doing it themselves, as in hiring a qualified dedicated teacher(s). And supporting those services provided from the community in which they live. Given the choice, how many communities would support and fund alternative schools for disruptive children with learning and/or behavior issues? I owe my children a roof over their head, cloths on their backs, food everyday, and a honest and accurate education on what I can afford, no one else's children. O.K., just returned my soap box to the basement guys
24. A better solution would be for the "state" to take back its full states rights and opt out of all the blackmail federal programs, laws and regulations. Stop collecting federal taxes and sending it to Washington. If it's not granted to the Federal Government in the Constitution, it's the states and peoples alone.
25. All this is fine and dandy until it's time to pay the piper. I believe our lavish life style as a nation will soon end. The government does not produce anything. They obtain their funds only by taxing it, borrowing it, or printing it. Look at our 16 trillion dollar debt, laying a fiat dollar bill end to end, I wonder how far 16 trillion of them would go, maybe out to where Voyager is today? The printing presses are 24/7 and it takes more money to produce coinage than its face value, does that tell you something? Ah, taxes! If you add up every bit of taxes you pay for everything, in my case, it comes up to slightly over 50% at my prior residence in Illinois. I'm talking everything, sales tax, income tax, personal property tax, license plates, food, property, state/county/city taxes, taxes on services like auto repair, garbage pick up, cell phone, utilities, fishing / hunting taxes, gasoline, boat annual taxes, etc. etc. Elected politicians represent "we the people", pass the laws that governs us, and finance things the government has no business sticking its nose into. Ultimately they are not responsible for their actions, we the people are left holding the bag. The politicians or elected numb nuts will walk free tossing off his/her responsibility in creating, legislating, financing and embracing this mess. Our three branches of government have become too intertwined. The SCOTUS had tried time and again to legislate law from the bench. Our executive branch has gone out of control and passes more laws in the form of Executive Orders, CFR'S etc. than Congress. Our federal Representatives shirk their responsibilities by not being responsible for coining the money. Under our Constitution, the House of Representatives funds 100% of the Federal government, not anymore, as somehow a presidential executive order or whim gets funded without prior approval from Congress. Look at the number of "lawyers" that are members of Congress. IMHO, a lawyer has no business in Congress and it's a conflict of interest. There is what, 538 members of Congress, and 5 lobbyists for each Congressman getting their way? And the Senate, who knows what the hell they're doing? Would someone please get me off my soapbox
