  1. I guess you get what you pay for?   I've got a pair of high top Danners I purchased a very long time ago, they are Gore Tex lined and I think it was only the first or second year they came out with Gore Tex.   Still going strong and with their 3rd pair of boot laces    Oh, and I forgot to mention, a pair of Dr. Shoals or this new gell foot padding goes a long, long way in foot comfort what-ever you purchase.
  2. Here's my view point, as if it matters. I may not like it or agree with it but...   In my previous employment before I retired, I had to sign a "condition of employment" contract. That contract outlined some do's and don'ts of continued employment, which I wanted to remain employed so I followed it. One of the requirements was not in the condition of employment but, as a Federal employee, a federal regulation, no guns on federal property, period.   Had it been in a "condition of employment" contract, I would have still honored it, as I was employed and paid to abide by my performance, contract and conduct.   My solution was to not park on government property. I worked in a very high crime area and was subject to call out when I had to pass crack corners and street gangs prowling around in plain sight.   The need to support my family out weighed the potential threat to myself or getting fired. Everyone needs to make their own choice, risk / reward type of thing.
  3.   I echo the above sentiment and...   Actually we're about to enter double jeopardy, the "big whammy" if you will. Ever pay attention to the SCOTUS decisions on major issues affecting our liberties, and the almost constant 5-4 split decisions over the last decade? Those decisions were based upon political and philosophical ideals from the minority liberals, not what the Constitution says or our founding fathers had intended.   Just one more appointment to SCOTUS by Obama and it's all over but the crying. That gentleman, is a fact!   One more liberal life time political appointment by Obama will be a game changer and dismantling of our Constitution as we know it.   Edit: Another thought just crossed my mind. How can anyone, much less nine (9) robed SCOTUS scholars sitting at the highest court of the land, not be able to read two simple well written documents (The Declaration of Independence & The Constitution) and not completely understand to writing, intent and meaning?   Going through three years of law school to obtain their initial start as lawyers and not reading the Federalist Papers, personal letters of our founding fathers, our history and goals, our rebellion to tyranny and "the King", etc.   Then spend years practicing "law" and eventually accepting most likely a lower paying job for an appointment to a Federal district court and a select to the SCOTUS. Then, well educated and knowing full well what our founding fathers intent was, and writing two of the most important documents in the history of the free world... Turn right around and vote it unconstitutional and a violation of U.S. law, turning our founding documents upside down?   I'm not a lawyer and don't play one on the Internet but, way too many decisions are based on over time flawed and skewed case law, and a basis for an agenda that is taking us down the proverbial toilet.   Well that's off my chest... Next?
  4. Well Darn! Says removed by user?   Was looking forward to seeing all the hype?    Update: Watched the video re-posted above, thanks. All I can say is... Wow, simply WOW and...   What my wife still reminds me of to this day. Think carefully before you speak.
  5.   Does green with envy mean anything to you?
  6.   A lot of assumptions and unknowns. Is it day or night and can the property owner even identify your pleasantries or mistake them as flouting or hostel? Did the property owner have a hostile encounter just yesterday? Are he / she / they tired of the constant urination, feces, litter, camping, cutting trees / firewood, etc. on their property and want to send a message and stop it?   Expect the worse and don't assume anything be my advice.   Next interesting question is... You suspect your on private property spending the night or what-ever, someone starts to shoot at you or maybe in your general direction. Being prepared and armed as a good prepper always is, do you shoot back, run or what?   So many what ifs!
  7. That's about what I keep. Some will say you can't have too many magazines but, today I just traded my G-26 for a G-19 and now have 5 extra G-26 ten round mags that I can't use. The FFL did not have even ONE spare mag I could purchase. BTW. The G-19 was $50.00 higher than two weeks ago... Go figure?   Myself, I will use two magazines that I can drop on the ground for IDPA matches, practice, 3 gun, etc. Two for strictly dependable carry magazines and two spares for just in case. I do about the same with the gun springs.   If they're hard to get or going to get hard to get, then, you can't have too many.
  8. That was a good question, in fact, that's why I bought this place in the country, to bug in. I can't think of to many things that would force me to bug out, radio active cloud would probably be one, my 60 year old wife telling me she's pregnant again might be another?   Like was suggested in previous post, you would be most likely better off to bug in and avoid the clogged highways and associated dangers of a panicked / criminal society.   Speaking only for myself and my attitude on a SHTF event, and it will eventually happen... I'm not a hostile person and don't want to be, I'm very charitable and friendly, however... During adverse times where you and your family are at high risk of death, injury or being plundered, you protect yourself, your family and property at all costs, period.   I myself would have no way of knowing you are a good guy and mean no ill. I'd have to treat every stranger as a potential and probable deadly threat and be on the offense.   I posted an article on here some time ago dealing with a minor two week electrical power outage, and how even your own neighbors change when you have and they have not. By helping out my neighbors I was almost out of everything myself in just a short two week period. I was prepared for myself & family, not the whole subdivision.   Ever heard the term "squatters"? They were not well received in the olden days nor now.   If I had to evacuate an urban area I'd have a good plan, such as; using a bicycle w/ tow cart, atv w/ tow cart, dune buggy w/ cart, you get the idea. Then stick to the highway easement or anyway around any traffic passing through as fast as I could. I would look for waterways and waterway easement and public land, railroad tracks, etc. to travel during dangerous times. IMO, people will not be hesitant to dispatch what they perceive as a threat on their property.   Like anyone else, I could be totally off base with my assumptions, but... History and human nature are some pretty powerful guides to go by.   My crystal ball, Tara cards and chicken bones all agree, best get prepared and have a good plan
  9.   And the jay walkers, the people who snort and expel orally on the parking lot, and especially... People who spit out their chewing gum on the sidewalk / parking lot on a warm day
  10.   You know I thought about that myself. I shoot trap every week and have maybe a little over a flat of 12 ga. left. But so far, that's about the only ammunition Wally World has in stock in my local area.
  11. Probably like many of you here, with the ammunition shortage going on and all, I was getting pretty low myself, so...   Found a place on the left coast called LAX ammunition and ordered a thousand rounds each of .223, 9mm and .45. This on time delivery kept getting delayed everyday until finally it didn't even show a delivery date on my tracking numbers (multiple packages). I finally got a recorded message yesterday saying it would arrive today, well kiss my grits, it did finally!   This skinny little gal shows up and honks her little van horn, so I go out to get my ammo. I had to chuckle a bit with her trying to get it all from the back of her van to the sliding door so I could take it. All the boxes were pretty heavy as you may imagine.   Now I can rest easy knowing I have a few months of ammunition on hand until hopefully this craziness runs its course. Then again, I think I'll be conservative with practice ammo until all is well, just in case.   Not being a re-loader, a minimum of 1K rounds of ammo for each weapon I own is my minimum comfort level for something unexpected, how about you?
  12. In my 38 years living very close to there, I ate there many, many times. Next it will be a ban on the stock car back firing at Bel-Clair race track right next door. It's a sad state of affairs!   But on the bright side, I finally was able to retire and get the heck out of Dodge while the gettin was good.   Just right up the road is the Belleville Sports / Indoor Shooting Range I frequented often. The only one in the surrounding area, I wonder if their doors are still open?
  13.   Same here, received an automated response that they received it and will be in touch. Color me stupid but, the funny things was, required fields to send an email included the last additional 4 digits of your zip code. Had to dig in the trash to retrieve them.   Anyone have all 9 zip code digits memorized or am I just the only one?
  14. Well said K191145...   After 38 years, I didn't walk away from Illinois, I RAN. I had to practically give away my house after 2-1/2 years on the market but I'm happily an ex-resident.   Sad part is my children didn't follow because of their employment. My son has his home on the market and everyone knows how real estate is moving. He asked if I would store his guns in my safe should this draconian measure pass. Of course I replied, I would be happy to add to my existing gun collection. I need to ask if he wants a $25 gift certificate for Home Depot or Office Depot    If he ever sells his house he plans on moving to Missouri.   Pity the person that can't escape the Illinois penal system.
  15. Been searching trying to fine handgun ammo without much luck. Then found www.ammoseeker.com and used it. Ordered a bunch from a company named "LAX Ammunition" out of California no less. Seemed they along with some other companies still had a good supply of ammunition at decent prices but, the $46.00 FedEx shipping eats you up.   Getting some free ammo cans too!   Yea, the FedEx man, he's going to earn his money when he gets to my place!   Just thought I'd pass along what I found out if it helps anyone.
  16. Now y'all got me craving pizza again, not just any old pizza, but an IMO'S pizza from the St. Louis, MO. area. You either love em or hate them. That's one of the few things I miss after moving here, that and fresh White Castles with extra onions off the grill  :yum:   Ritza Put is only one little step above Domino's on my list of dumpster diving cuisine I'll eat if someone else is paying for it and buys the beer too...
  17. Well, I won't debate our founding fathers actual faith in the living God, as I don't have my facts at my finger tips, however... Based on my personal study of history and their writings, I believe they were men of faith IMO. They'll find out as we all will in the near future.   As for "The Big Bang Theory", I disagree, it is very much a "religion", atheism to be exact. It presupposes the universe was created from nothing and mysteriously exploded into existence. It's a flawed theory that suggests we are our own gods and by magic "surprise". Personally, I don't want to think I was made by accident from star dust, simmering in the primordial soup and that's all to my being. A simple look around me tells me it's impossible this creation happened by chance.   When our unalienable rights given by the creator are removed and replaced by the rights given by a government, look out, what the government giveth the government will surely taketh away.   Woodrow Wilson did as much to hurt this country as FDR and LBJ combined and the "Big O" is trying to out do all three of them combined, IMHO of course.   Happy New Year everyone!
  18. Not as long as the Op but. I did my part emailing Fincher myself. I encourage everyone who cares about their freedoms to take a moment and write the people who write and vote on the laws. Once it's gone, it's so very hard to get it back.
  19. I beg to differ...   The Declaration of Independence is the foundation of our Constitutional law, as outlined in the Federalist Papers, writings by our founding fathers, etc. Legally, it once carried the same weight in law as our Constitution, and was quoted many times in history as law. I'm no lawyer, but I can read and understand.   IMHO, we need to revert back to a "Constitutional Republic" based on our Constitution and freedoms, and NOT a democracy based on the will of the people at any given emotional time in history.   Just my opinion and understanding, ya know?
  20. Had some spare time and re-read the "Declaration of Independence" and our Constitution, and one word just jumped off the page, "tyranny" and tyrant. I'm not advocating anything, just making an observation on what our founding documents say and where we are today. tyr·an·ny /ˈtɪr ə ni/ Show Spelled [tir-uh-nee] Show IPA noun, plural tyr·an·nies. 1. arbitrary or unrestrained exercise of power; despotic abuse of authority. 2.the government or rule of a tyrant or absolute ruler. 3. a state ruled by a tyrant or absolute ruler. 4. oppressive or unjustly severe government on the part of any ruler. 5. undue severity or harshness.   Think we're there yet guys?
  21. This is the first I've seen and heard of this technology, simply amazing!   Can you imagine the implications this technology will have when it improves and becomes more affordable? Need a new toaster, don't go to Wally World and buy one, print one.
  22. This is unbelievable?   I was watching the Nashville news this morning and I thought they were joking! The newscasters we're almost in a panic and wondering out loud how the government is going to legislate printing?   Evidently, for between $500.00 - $1,000.00 you can buy a "printer" on the Internet that will "print" anything. It is only limited to the programs you can get off the Internet.   They showed an actual test fire of an AR-15 that was "printed", actually printed from a printer! It fired six (6) actual rounds before it broke. They showed a couple of other items being actually "printed" tiny layer by layer.   Anyone know or seen this technology yet and know the particulars?
  23. My son is here visiting us for Christmas leave. He's an Iraq veteran and an Army Scout stationed at Ft. Benning, Ga. and plans on making the Army his career.   We're on our way to the range this afternoon in the cold to shoot some guns and started talking about our military experiences and how things have changed in the military since I was in, compared to today's Army. Anyway...   My son is the companies armorer and is responsible for ordering weapon parts, ammo, etc. His company has not been to the rifle / pistol range or shot in well over a year, because... Money!   He tells me his entire division budget is cut and only has $480,000.00 for the fiscal year. Out of this budget it pays for everything, toilet paper, administration supplies, mess, AMMO, etc. They do not have the extra funds available to purchase ammunition for the range and shells for the tanks. He said some of those tank munitions are $50,000.00 each? But no money to purchase ammunition to train and be proficient with? Tell me you're pulling my leg!   The whole purpose of our military when not in a combat zone is one simple mission, to train, train, train and make sure their equipment stays in deploy-able condition and they have everything they need when they get deployed. Not the case as they are deploying again to Kuwait shortly and do not have 1/2 of their required gear. Same thing when they actually got deployed to Iraq, severe shortages to complete their mission.   Would you active duty guys chime in here and verify or not if your unit has the same funding problems?   The absolute #1 responsibility our government has to its citizens is to protect the nation and give our troops the best training and equipment and best chance of survival in combat. To do that requires adequate funding of the armed forces and troops to be the best fighting force and best equipped in the world.   It really burns my azz knowing our troops are under equipped, under funded and under trained. Evidently it's come down to it, what's more important, funding our military to protect our nation or spending tens of billions for the "you owes me crowd", pork projects, entitlements, that would be better and more efficiently spent for those protecting our nation.   That great sucking sound is all that fiat currency being flushed down the drain for the lazy and ungrateful multitude of this nation that you owe.   I sure hope the government gets their priorities in order in a hurry.   Soap Box / OFF
  24. Something inside me is telling me we haven't heard the last of these criminals.   The criminals had to assume back up officers were on the way, yet took the extra time to disarm a single LEO and take his service weapon?   Something doesn't smell right in Denmark. There's got to be more to the story even though his was out gunned, and why was he out gunned?
  25. Yes, good read and I agree with him but, there's just one problem!   He's preaching to the choir, and here's my thoughts.   To me, liberalism and the anti-gun crowd is much like a mental illness, the loss of the ability to reason and to think things through logically (critical thinking). Liberal symptoms include; quick emotional responses, shouting for the nanney state to do something now, jumping to conclusions before the facts, the inability to view a problem from more than one vantage point, trying the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, cowering and shirking their own responsibilities and finally, blame the inanimate object and not the cause.   Actual mental illness can be controlled by experimentation and adjustments of drugs in this day and age. How do you control a population that is striving for a socialist society? Reading or listening to the opposing side with an open mind either inflames them and they retort to name calling, or they dismiss it as ludicrous.   I haven't had much success in my life presenting the truth and actual facts to closed minds unwilling to accept reality, have you?   As always, the only hope I foresee is the use of force, the force of the polling place.
