Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books
Dennis1209 replied to plank white's topic in Survival and Preparedness
One Second After... Excellent read until the final chapter. It begs for a sequel IMHO. What ever happened to the main character (forgot his name) and Gunny? You are left to your own devices deciding what happened... Bummer! -
Banking in the 1920's (Those were the days)
Dennis1209 replied to gnmwilliams's topic in General Chat
Man, this is a sore subject with me. My 21 year old daughter was threatened with death if she did not open the Arsenal Credit Union safe in one minute flat. They tied all three employees with nylon wire straps in an isolated room and fortunately left after a $200,000.00 payday. It was in Cahokia, Illinois so you know your rights with self defense. -
Let's just throw a bunch more generational welfare money at it and be done with it? We need to stop complaining about "hood rats" and "ghetto trash" and do our part by taking on second jobs. To generate more disposable income and better pacify those that have nothing better to do. Remember... If they had more money, they and their illegitimate spawn would look and act respectable. Get use to it, you owe them and are not doing enough to alleviate their frustrations and acting out. Unfortunately I was not there, had I been... I'd been handing out $20 bills to everyone and then peace and serenity would have erupted everywhere. Where's your compassion folks :stunned:

What is a patriotic American I wonder? In this day and age there seems to be all kinds of Americans, liberal, conservative, left, right, Democrat, Republican, Independent, etc. What is a true American I'm wondering? Does a true American believe in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence and future of this great nation and their prodigy, or want to change it for a utopian world and society? Give up our individual sovereign national freedoms and way of life for a one world global bow to the crown existence? Is that American? Is it American to work your tail off to provide for you and your family, and by force of law, take what you earn in taxes and squander it for generational welfare or to foreign countries, both of which diminishes your ability to provide for your family? Does a patriotic American or government strive to remove the Pledge of Allegiance from all schools and public gatherings? Remove all vestiges of reverence to God in the class room and public gatherings? Strive to remove all semblance of Christmas displays public and private unless all inclusive? Is that the America your forefathers would be proud of and got killed and maimed fighting for? Are we growing to big for our own britches and need put in our place? I may be old fashion and out of touch with the political main stream but, I see our nation crumbling and going down the road to self destruction before my very own eyes. As said, “a house divided against itself can not standâ€, and to me that says America. In the last 100 years of our national sovereignty, knowledge and technology has exponentially increased and wisdom and common sense has exponentially decreased by the same amount. A little more than 100 years ago the fastest a person could travel was about 35 M.P.H. by horse back, and look at where we are today. Thousands of years of humans evolving on planet earth, then all of a sudden in 100 years, an explosion of knowledge. Go figure, but I do know why. To name just a couple major recent historical changes in our society as reflected by law: A murderous rapist has more rights with the state than the victim and family of the deceased. The unborn have no legal or moral standing under U.S. Law and are disposed of as trash. Without naming specific crimes, hate laws have been passed for certain segments of society that makes us unequal in the eyes of the law. The government is calling good evil and evil good and calling for U.S. to embrace and celebrate it? What's wrong with this picture, or is it just me and my old views? At my old age I had the opportunity to talk to many grandfathers, great-grandfathers and old timers who served in World War II. If I were old enough to personally talk to veterans of WW I and all the other wars previously fought for our nation, I'm sure their opinions would be united. I don't believe they would say they lost a limb(s), life, eye sight, mental capacity or disfigurement for the America we are and are on the road to. We are self destructing and a moral mess. By a show of hands, how many of you respect the last measure of self your forefathers gave to preserve our way of life and want to preserve it, that of our great nation and our children's inheritance? Or do you hope for a God-less one world government where the government dictates what's moral and what's not.

I haven't read all the posts here, however... I think one of the sponsors here is "The Safe House" in Nashville. I bought a Liberty Fat Boy safe from there and couldn't be happier. Anyway... If you go to their website they have a wealth of information there. Should you not find an answer to your particular question, they are fine folks and I believe they would be happy to answer any of your questions. With the possibility of your floor warping or caving in, and to place and anchor it properly, I suggest calling a professional that does it for a living. JMHO.

As a novelty, token, souvenir, keep sake, free beer or conversation piece, I guess they have their place, but nothing more IMO. Really not needed for proof of military service, as it only takes a few minutes of conversation to determine if the individual is a combat veteran, what unit he served and the M.O.S. that's claimed. Written official orders, citations, medals and commendations says it all, but I guess it's a coin toss  For a fun challenge, good idea!

What's in a name? Seems to me someone living in the beginning of the 1940's in a few foreign countries with such a name, wouldn't be so mouthy to take away our freedoms? Evidently she failed history or wants history to repeat itself? Why is she so bitter and stupid? Maybe she should visit or live in an unmentioned Aryan nation and spout her ideals. I'm sure she would glean much more support? Where do we get these people?? The more I think about it, why would a race of people try to flee from total annihilation of which the world has never seen, to a nation of freedom loving gun toting people and try to change the laws to that of which they were persecuted and defenseless? Of all people's, I would have thought based on history and our nations freedoms and principals, she would be an ardent supporter of the 2nd Amendment? Has anyone ever confronted her with the facts I wonder? This is in no way an attack on any race, creed or religion. It's an honest opinion and a question of the views and intent of such individuals.

After I read the start of Lights out...
Dennis1209 replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Was a great read. I'd like a sequel part 2 as experienced and told by another character such as, say Gunny. I was left wondering with the ending of the book? Unless I missed it or don't recall... What was the final fate of the main leader (forgot his name) and dear ole Gunny? -
Home Defense Weapon- Loaded Overnight?
Dennis1209 replied to superduty's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
As always, I'm a little late to the party, but... Keep my Remington 870 Express 12 ga. bed side, 6 in the tube and empty chamber. Have my Glock 19 or Kimber .45 on night stand (no children), magazine inserted with chamber empty. Reason being. Getting up in the middle of the night groggy to take a leak and if lucky, shoot a 90% x ring and 10% fail to neutralize. With the completion of the fire drill stub my toe on the way back. Now do I really want to be fumbling with a hot gun when groggy & clumsy? Of course most of it I blame on age. -
Federal Assault Weapons Ban: Proposed this Thursday

A fifteenth century New England Bar-B-Que at the steak is in order. Now, I feel even better than you  -
This time I learned my lesson "real gooder"! For the last six months I've planned on buying a Ruger 10/22 for an Appleseed class I wanted to take this spring, but didn't pull the trigger so to speak. Got a really nice Browning "T" bolt single shot that's very accurate but... My understanding is it's very difficult to score "rifleman" with a single shot .22 in Appleseed scoring. Fortunately, I have about 1,000 rounds or so of .22 squirreled away for those infrequent occasions I shoot my .22. Even have a couple of boxes of Western Auto .22LR I bought for 27 cents a box back in the early 60's! A few years ago I fired a few of them and they still went bang. Same with my 1960's era Western Auto 12 ga. paper shells, bang! I would also add that, at eleven years old after cashing in my glass soda bottles I hunted for @ 2 cents each, walked into Western Auto and plopped down .27 cents and walked out the door with a box of .22's. My how times have changed?

That is... Being an un-paid government employee owning a business? Need I go into much detail for you business owners? Collecting federal, state and local taxes having to collect taxes, keep records for your masters, and submit them in detail with the force of law telling you if you mess up, you're going to be penalized. All without consideration or compensation of your bottom line and providing jobs? How much time and financial loss is involved with this process I wonder? Add to that, paying your taxes on what you "expect" to earn a quarter a head of time... What's wrong with this picture?

Yep. It's the exact same one the military uses I was told. I can easily live with around 10k hours as much as I will be using it. Thanks.

Multiple People Shot at Houston College

As always, Dennis1209 is going to keep his miserable opinions to himself on "gun free zones" -
I was in the market for one of those newer model Aimpoint red dot scopes. The ones that cost 5-7 hundred dollars and have the 50,000 to 80,000 hours of battery life. So, my son found out and sold me his old M-68/CCO (M2) Aimpoint, the one the military uses, for $100.00. Did some research on this model and found some of the deficiencies associated with it such as accidental turning the unit on, unintentional power setting changes and using a large rubber band to prevent it, etc. The reviews mention the short battery life compared to the new versions, however... I can't find an approximate battery life anywhere with normal use? Anyone own and use this model and how many hours can I expect at say, #7 on the brightness setting? My gut feeling is I'll probably end up selling it and getting the new tens of thousands of hours battery life the first time I change the battery? Thanks

I was fortunate enough to find a place on the Internet (LAX Ammunition) a couple of weeks ago that had 9mm and .45 in stock. Ordered enough to satisfy my monthly IDPA addiction for awhile. If this shortage doesn't ease in the next three months, I'm going to ration my ammunition and our toilet paper. I figure if I have to suffer and ration, my spouse needs to feel my pain also

Reading the local paper around here, trailers are at the top of the list of items stolen.

I rather go to the dentist for an absessed tooth extraction with no novicane rather than buy a car at a dealer. I was in the same boat when I bought my duaghter a new car for her graduation. Walked in with cash in hand and expecting to be out the door in a hour or less, wishful thinking. I started quizzing them about certain charges I wasn't willing to pay that I would do myself like, dealer prep charges. Could save a few hundred dollars putting the car mats down myself and washing it. Dealer delivery charge they wanted me to pay for, I don't think so, you want it on your lot to sell, you pay the transportation. What really got my goat was the :30 minutes wasted talking to the finance guy about leasing the car or using their finance program I wasn't interested in, the extended warranty, etc. Without paying the transportation charge & dealer prep it was still almost a whole day process with cash in hand. Oh yea, part of the dealer prep charge is to drill a couple holes in your trunk and install their advertising name plate which initially they claimed was mandatory for legal purposes.

Good advice stated above. I was having a few FTF problems on my 1911 Kimber at an IDPA match and wasn't a happy camper about it. With a 6" long 1/4" wooden dowel rod and some fine steel wool wrapped around it, gave the feed ramp a couple dozen strokes and the chamber a few circular swirls. Followed up with some lite strokes with "mans best friend", the Dremel tool, polishing wheel and jewelers rouge. If the ramp was flat and a little bigger, you could shave with it. Problem solved! NOPE! Turns out, one of my Wilson 47D's was the culprit. Tore it apart and I see no damage on it, the feed lips look great, follower looks fine, spring seems to be O.K. inside the magazine slick, clean and squared? Went to Wilson web site and naturally they're sold out of 8 round 47D springs. Guess I'll try one from Wolff springs.

You have an excellent point, and would like to expand on it. How did we become the worlds leading manufacturer of everything in the world from WW II until the 1980's? Then become the worlds leading debtor and our manufacturing jobs left with that "great sucking sound"? Who's responsible and why? How about a one world government and one world currency? Let me take off my Renolds Wrap tin foil hat a minute and explain. What do you suppose such organizations and trade agreements are designed to do, such as NAFTA, GATT, the World Trade Organization (WTO), World Bank (WB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), the United Nations (UN), etc.? Do you think they are in the best interests of a sovereign nation? Did anyone happen to see American business, corporations and jobs flee overseas in mass shortly thereafter? Let's equal and remove the trade barriers and make everyone equal, equally poor. Let's up lift the third world nations at our expense and make us equal. By design, national patriotism and sovereignty is being replaced by one world dependence and allegiance. On numerous occasions our American troops fighting on foreign soil have been subjected to wearing the U.N. patch on their left shoulder and commanded by a U.N. commander. Think I still have my Reynolds Wrap on? How many national parks have you been to lately? A vast majority have the United Nations flag flying under our Stars & Stripes. Do a little research and see what that means to our sovereignty. A little research would revel that during the Gulf War, we didn't even have the production capacity to produce our own munitions to fight it. We had to contract with Israel to manufacture 40% of our needs. How's that for a rich sovereign nation the whole world envies? I'll bet you can count on ten fingers what is 100% made in America anymore. Press #1 - to read this in Spanish Press #2 - to read this in...

Hi Ya! Perhaps it's a common misunderstanding of history but, here's my take and I'd like to disagree with you somewhat. The "emancipation proclamation" was an after thought to drum up northern support for the war. True, slavery was an issue especially with states applying for statehood, however...In true dictator fashion President Lincoln established the first ever military draft and the suspension of "habeas corpus" for those who spoke out and became political prisoners for several years. Like today, those with financial means were able to buy their way out of the draft for $300.00. IMHO. If it were not for northern aggression, textiles (cotton) and agriculture with an embargo of sending them up North, the civil war would have been "delayed". Side note: One man owning another IMO is in itself a cause for war and rebellion. But was not the major reason for the war between the states or what initiated it. Least that's what was drummed into my brain at school in the 50's - 60's?
-
I'm not advocating civil war or such, I'm stating the "divide" and hostility toward our government I'm witnessing. I personally don't want the chains and restrictions government is trying to impose on me, much less forcefully paying for government sponsored programs that might have made many of you here non-existent. And yes, I believe your last sentence is so true. We are a nation in rapid terminal decline.
-
You bring up another point I wanted to mention. Does anyone realize the bills / laws that gets voted on and passed, that have not even been read? It's common knowledge the politicians seldom read them because they are hundreds and / or thousands of pages long. Many times they are introduced to the floor in pounds and not pages. Think I'm kidding?
-
No truer words were ever written. "A house divided against itself can not stand". That applies to individuals, families, relationships, employment, governments and nations. Could we as a nation be on the cusp of national self destruction and all out rebellion against our Washington masters? Make no mistake, we are a nation as divided as the culmination of the 1865 war of aggression. We have the left and right, the conservatives and liberals, the Republicans and Democrats, the working and the people who we owe a living, the self sufficient and dependents, the have's and have not's, etc. We have a Federal Government who takes part of the taxes we pay and supports Planned Parenthood, executing millions of innocent babies in the womb and calls it a "Constitutional Right". Then a president who shamelessly surrounds himself around children and denounces our Constitutional 2nd Amendment Right and bad, bad guns. Is it me or is something wrong with that picture? We have a large segment of the population on generational welfare and it's called an "entitlement". I worked for 42 years and paid dearly into the system and it's called a "benefit". But let's not mince words and meanings. Let's pass hate laws and establish days to celebrate things our forefathers would find reprehensible, disgusting and morally bankrupt. Let's keep our Southern boarders open and allow terrorists, drug cartels, illegal immigrants, disease and poverty to continue to flood our nation and prosecute those brave men and women protecting our borders with unfounded charges. Let's use the full faith and credit clause of the United States and get trillions in debt, with no intention of ever slowing it down or paying the debt back, because it's impossible. The American people, not the government is responsible for the national debts, that's a fact. Why can't a state, county, city or individual print legal money at will, with no backing or even promise to pay? Our political system... Why in the hell would anyone spend hundreds of thousands, millions, tens of millions or hundreds of millions of dollars to obtain a political elected office paying a modest wage? To me it seems either you want to end the plunder or participate in it and have an agenda contrary to your constituents. Does anyone really accept big money from individuals, business, corporations, etc. without disregarding the wishes of his / her constituents and bending to the will of the donor and contributor? Point / Counter Point anyone?
