  1.   This time next year I'll have mine. I'd like to say I'm looking forward to it but, the years are flying by just too fast!
  2. Anyone ever been tagged by a cotton mouth or copperhead?   I see them a lot around here but I see them in spurts. Might see 2-3 in a week then none for a couple or three months?   I doubt I'd go to the hospital right away from a bite, just clean it and monitor it for 24 hours. Based on my history I doubt I'd have any abnormal reactions. Then again...   When I was younger I had  job where I would get stung by wasps 2-20 times a day in the summer (under propane tank lids) and it didn't physically bother me. Now when I get stung by a wasp it's a three day affair with swelling, pain and a bad itch? Guess the ole metabolism has changed. Same way with poison ivy / oak, use to be able to sleep in it with no reaction, now I get it if I look at it to hard?
  3. Here's a brain teaser for you I recently was thinking about. This is for people like me that have too much time on their hands and are getting old and pondering life. I was cutting my three acres of grass today and pondering the answers. I did a genealogy web site on my family tree about eight years ago and published it, so I can trace my surname and family back at least 250 years to England and Scotland and the arrival of my ancestors in America many generations ago.   Most of us have two or three names we are given. A first name, a middle name and a last surname. With the exception of marriage where the bride may accept the husbands surname and legal name changes when desired, most of us keep our names our parents gave us at birth. I did change mine from “Two Dogs Humping” but that's another story.   Most people have surnames that date back generation upon generation with no records of the beginning of their surname.   Here's my questions... How many of you know when and / or where your surname came into existence and from what, abbreviated from a longer name? Who originally gave themselves that surname and why? How did they select it and is there any meaning to it?
  4. When you hear these two words "fair" and "comprehensive", come out of the governments mouth...   Anyone...    Anyone???
  5.   Yep, as a matter of fact I'm stocked to last years level and to top that off... Our local Walmart had a few boxes of 9mm & .45 auto on the self the other day! First time since the madness they had any.
  6. I use to until the tornado's and golf ball and larger size hail started dropping from them around here! And scraping yourself off the bedroom ceiling with a dull putty knife at 2:00 A.M. when a strong lightning bolt strikes a tree close to your house isn't my idea of enjoyment :stunned:
  7. Been seeing a bunch of the same species of snake around here lately, need to start keeping a camera handy. I suspect it might be a rat snake? By description they're black, have what appears to be numerous humps on their backs and don't "S" crawl but move very fast in a straight line.   Last rattle snake I laid eyeballs on was in the country close to Erin, TN. way back when most of you youngsters were in diapers (1973).
  8.     I'm outraged myself but, who's the actual winners and losers when a victim successfully wins a lawsuit against a school, police department or public entity?   The money comes from yours and my pockets in the form of increased personal property taxes, sales taxes, real estate taxes and increased insurance premiums. If I were King of the U.S.A. (Tea Party of course), I would put a lot more responsibility and punitive damage on the individual. Then squeeze it so hard blood would flow from a turnips
  9. Here's my thoughts on water and I could be wrong but...   In the last six thousand years not one drop of water has left planet earth and gone to outer space, it's still all here. Not talking about food but, there's enough water to support twenty times the earths current population and crops. People seem to be drinking the polluted Kool-Aid.   The problems are pollution and access with maybe weather rain patterns changing a bit? Russia and China have, last I heard, 75% of their water supply's polluted and unsafe to drink because of modernization, industry and dumping their poisoned waste water untreated into their lakes and rivers.   Africa has plenty of water if you dig for it and make a well. They have huge aquifers just like most places on earth, might have to dig a little deeper but...When was the last time you watched one of those World Vision or other charities showing droughts, etc. Did you happen to see any rain catchment systems or anything to collect water when it does rain? NOPE! What you saw was them sitting around on their ass doing nothing with flies eating them up. Charities have to come in and dig a simple well for them.   The earth is 3/4 water and desalination is a simple process. It amazes me all these survival programs where contestants are stranded on a beach with no fresh water to drink, and you don't need any fuel.     Rant / OFF
  10. Trail cams are a great idea! When the night shift takes over I wouldn't even realize we had a good population of coyotes around here if it were not for their occasional yelping and feces in the road.   Same way with skunks, raccoons, opossums, bobcats, and foxes. Me thinks we have them around but only see them dead on the road, cepten the occasional rabid one every couple / few years during the daylight.   We're getting a nasty population of those armadillo's established around here in NW Tennessee too. I've yet to see one during the day but starting to see more of them dead on the road than opossums.   Waiting for the feral pigs to make their way here for some good eaten! As the TWR doesn't seem to care if they spread throughout the state.
  11.   I won't get into specifics but... The air coming out of your register should be super saturated, meaning it is going to be a very high humidity at that cold temperature and it's normal. Remember what I said above, the colder the air the less grains of moisture it can hold, therefore higher relative humidity. You need to measure the humidity / temperature at your furnace / air-handler / A/C return for an accurate reading.   Usually a reputable A/C company will come out and diagnose your problem and measure and size what you need and give you a free estimate. That's an alternative...    Oops... Just read your above post.   Nothing better than trying to diagnose a problem via computer :squint:   I use to get phone calls at all hours from friends and family that their furnace / air conditioner quit working and ask over the phone, "what do you think the problem is and what do you think it will cost to fix it"? When I retired I moved to Tennessee and sold some of my equipment so I wouldn't have to put up with that stuff. With the exception of ME, I'm out of the BIDNESS
  12. Peejman is absolutely correct, you have excessive humidity entering the space you're trying to condition. After you complete his suggestions and fix it your problem is most likely solved.   Another thing to check that can cause and/or add to your problem is your A/C unit. Is it sized properly for your home and set up properly? Forty percent of the function of A/C is to remove latent heat (humidity). If your fan is running to fast and cooling down your home too quickly it doesn't have enough time to condense humidity on your evaporator coil and doesn't let the coil reach maximum condensation temperature. Check your suction line (bigger copper line) at your outdoor condensing unit. There should be an area or two where it is not insulated and it should be dripping wet. That will give you and idea if your unit is under charged.   If you are slightly low on refrigerant most of your evaporator coil may not get cold enough to condense moisture in the air, same with too much refrigerant in the system. I don't know what temperature you're trying to maintain in your home but, the psychometrics and physics are the higher the air temperature the more grains of moisture it can hold. Translation: The lower the temperature the higher the humidity. After a rain and/or soggy ground under / around the house, etc., the conditioned space could be at 60-75% RH at 68-72% Fahrenheit. Raise the temperature to 73-76 degrees in the same conditioned space and the RH% drops to around 50-55%. Don't have my psychometric chart in front of me but I'm close from memory.   If you find moisture coming from around the doors consider some of that 3M door insulation. If coming from old wooden windows, consider 3m plastic window coverings until you decide to replace windows. All other areas, like Peejman said, moisture barriers. And do your gutters drain the water away from your foundation properly?   Good luck!
  13.   I hear tell it doesn't go over well in court?
  14. In addition to having to be 18 years of age and not a felon, and being alive to vote...   Where would we be today if two additional requirements were added to the above?   (1) Have a job and support yourself and family. (2) Be a property owner.   Just a thought?
  15. Just look at the deception and trickery they use to calculate the inflation rate as one example to make them look better, not to mention the cost of living index!   Ever notice the things critical / essential to life everyone needs / uses they don't include to calculate inflation? You'll never see food, fuel, medical insurance, taxes, etc.   They use cars, washing machines, dryers, refrigerators and other luxuries, not the essentials in life.

    flip up sights

Same as many of the above, I use the Magpul BUIS as backups and an Aimpoint M68 red dot. I have a Nikon P238 (I think) fixed 3X should the need arise.   I have the El Cheapo Chinese Amazon.com $40.00 red dot on my HD Remington 870 that seems to be working fine at the moment, as long as I don't pump to many practice rounds through it. My AR-15 set up is for when you really wished you had listened to your inner self and was paying attention to what was going on in this country. A little training and plinking is fun now and then too!
  17. I shouldn't be saying anything and telling on myself but...   Last summer my wife was cutting a small section of grass on the side of the house with the push mower. I was about 100 yards away in the front cutting with my lawn tractor. I happened to look over in her direction and started laughing my butt off until I got the hiccups. It looked like she was inventing some form of fast motion "break dancing meets Bionic Woman". It's impossible for a 58 year old woman to move her arms, hands, legs that fast.   Shortly thereafter I came up to find out what was going on still laughing uncontrollably in between hiccups. Come to find out she ran over a yellow jacket nest with the mower and got stung about six times.   Because of my insensitive laughter and her stings, she hasn't helped me cut grass in over a year now.   Also last summer I was on my tractor bush hogging one of my fields and felt a sharp something on my leg. I make another pass the other direction and I get the same ouch on my side. I turn around and make another cut next to the one I just made and ouch, I got it in the neck in the same area as the other two pains. I finally seen the little bugger, a yellow jacket as I slapped and killed it and it landed on my lap. Then I looked closely at the ground and maybe a few hundred were flying around a foot or two above the ground. When you're bush hogging stuff four foot high, all kinds of insects and debris is flying all over you. Three stings before I figured it out, how's that for smarts?
  18.   Yep they do! They also must love mice too...   I just walked into the chicken run one day this summer to put the fresh water in and as I was hanging the water on the chain a ruckus broke out just behind me. Evidently I stirred up a mouse that ran into the run and they were all over it. It was totally devoured in twenty seconds, fur, bone tail and all.    Mine are also partial to cooked noodles and watermelon.   P.S. The wife and I were at Wally World today grocery shopping and passed by the butter, orange juice, egg section. One of the egg carton tops was open as we passed by and the wife and I commented, that's the first white egg we've seen in three years! They sure are white still.
  19. Well that's a whole wheel barrel of thumbs pointed down.   Reading the fishing report today everyone was limiting out on channel cats just after noon today and just before 5:00 A.M. this morning. I guess timing is everything
  20. I use to buy the bulk of my ammo from Natchez when I lived in Illinois. When I moved down here five years ago their website wouldn't accept my $500.00 ammo order. Left the order page and went back and read in the restrictions that they will not ship to Tennessee. Did that change?
  21. I've noticed the media seldom relates many crimes as gang related or they were members of a street gang unless it's obvious. I wonder why that is? Not saying this was the case just an observation I've noticed for years.   Another thing that is undeniable is the police, mayors and local government officials are all to slow to admit there is a gang problem until they are asking for funds to set up a task force or ask for state / federal assistance when it's too late.   I was amazed when I did some research and discovered they're hundreds of different gangs and sets numbering more than the U.S. prison population. And they are located in Anytown U.S.A.   Scary.
  22. A strange year for my fruit trees? I have four peach trees and one apple tree. Last year I had a great crop of peaches and apples. This year I got "two" apples and the tree looks healthy. One peach tree is loaded with peaches and about ready to pick. Two trees produced zero peaches and one has a few of them. I did notice earlier this year a couple of the peach trees had these little brown circles on the leaves that eventually dropped out leaving a bunch of perfectly round holes in the leaves. I don't know enough about fruit tree diseases to have treated them.   I won't even go into the deer that's breaking my branches getting to the fruit. I've even seen them standing on their hind legs and breaking the branches with the front legs.   Two years ago I bought a few blackberry plants from Burgess Seed Co., WOW, this year we harvested probably three gallons of blackberries so far and they all are slightly bigger than grapes, and speaking of grapes...   The plants are expensive to purchase and it takes time as you know before you get some grapes. Twice now I've planted them and they did nicely and grew to about 12-18 inches high, looking good. Both times I went out one day and noticed something just ain't right. Looking at where there should be my grape plants, there was absolutely "nothing". I mean not even a stem protruding from the ground! Based on the size of the plants and it was gone over night, I assume it was the zombie deer around here. Bummer!   Oh yea! I like the farm life too, but could do without the cotton mouths, chiggers, ticks and deer!
  23. Here's the crux of everything.   The government doesn't produce one barrel of oil or one bushel of wheat. Their only source of income is to tax you, borrow it, or print it. What, 17 TRILLION in debt, not counting personal debt. Printing press running 24/7 and hyper inflation fast approaching. Taxes, ah taxes, if you add up EVERY tax you pay (cell phone, garbage pick up, food, water, fishing / hunting, gas, diesel, income tax, personal property, license, etc. etc.) it's slightly over 50% going to the government. That's if you're a poe folk like me.   We are totally down the tubes and the Federal Reserve is doing tricks Harry Houdini would be proud of to keep their game going. Ever notice prices of everything constantly going up when you shop? It's not the greedy producers, it's the greedy government inducing constant inflation by reducing the value of a dollar.   Speaking of which, can anyone tell me what a dollar is worth, define it? I can tell you what silver / gold is worth, what it purchased 100 years ago, purchasing power today and a hundred years from now.   IMO, what's coming financially for this greedy want  it now generation and government, will make the 1930-1942 Great Depression look like a family picnic.   It's immoral and socialistic to take from a hard working earner and have a government take a large percentage and squander it on lazy no good people, bridges to nowhere, studies on the mating habits of butterflies, propping up other governments and countries in the form of hundreds of billions in aid, etc.
  24. Yipes! I've heard them fire ants hurt like hell on TV programs.   I sure wasn't aware fire ants have moved this far up North. I've noticed all the dead armadillo on the side of the road that have finally made it up here to NW Tennessee.   Anyone know how far North in Tennessee they've made it?
  25. Seems every nut case with a mental illness is getting appointed / elected to a government position these days. It's getting scary.
