  1. If you take "targeted first" to mean "Fruitcake-crazy guy yelled out that he was a federal agent but no actual attack, crime, or shooting took place", then I guess you can think that fits what I was asking. I was asking about actual "bad guys" seeing a person with a gun and "taking them out first" before carrying on with their intended crime. My apologies for not being that specific in the first post to clarify what I was asking.
  2. IMHO, it sure sounds like you'd be better off selling what you do have - and since you have $0.00 invested so far - you can take that money and put towards some other gun. I'd bet you could get $50 for what you have, and apply that towards a gun you actually would buy. That's the thing here - would you go out and buy *that* gun, today? If not, why spend the money on a barrel? Otherwise, I'd just make it a point to search various boards and sites on a weekly basis to find a used barrel pop up for a *deal*. Also - do some searching for people who are looking for a new barrel, and you might be able to get them to sell you their old or unwanted one
  3. Understood - just trying to make sure we're all on the same page
  4. Thanks for adding that. I'm not sure it really applies, but everyone can decide for themselves.
  5. Is the OP asking about firing a gun, or hunting? The TWRA regs only cover hunting, not merely "firing a gun".
  6. So I'm 3 coats into the urethane, and it's smooth as melted butter with sanding after each coat, but I can still see ridges from when it was applied. At this rate - the urethane is just not building up as thick as I would like for good protection in the woods. Anyone got any suggestions? Looking for anything BUT high gloss.
  7. Only 2 coats of urethane, but assembled it to see how it looks completed: IMAG0842 by the.drm, on Flickr A little more detail: IMAG0844 by the.drm, on Flickr I still think my limbs/leaves are :so-so:, but I really like how the stains turned out. YOU can also see where I made the rookie mistake of sanding without the butt plate in place. IMAG0846 by the.drm, on Flickr
  8. I'll get some pics in better light in a few days. The camo actually does it's job - in lower light it looks darker (like in the pics) and in brighter settings it really lightens up. Unfortunately, that makes for difficult pictures.
  9. A few weeks back, I picked up a used Savage .243 whose wooden stock was pretty crappy looking. OE finish was beat up pretty bad, especially down by the butt plate. Let me say up front - this was a hack job. I was bored last night in the shop, and didn't have any stripper, so the OE finish came off from a combination of a sanding disc on the air grinder and a torch Lots of sanding later, some green stain, more sanding, some mahogany stain, some black stain for the limb/leaves and some dark splotches... and here is how it looked before I started adding a few layers of satin urethane. Anyway - this is my first shot at doing anything to a stock, and although I'm not 100% happy, it looks a bazillion times better than when I started (sadly, I forgot to take pics ) IMAG0837 by the.drm, on Flickr IMAG0838 by the.drm, on Flickr IMAG0839 by the.drm, on Flickr IMAG0840 by the.drm, on Flickr
  10. I generally divide advertised safe count by 2, and count scoped rifles as 3.

Wow Mark, those things ain't cheap!!! I'll whip one out after dinner tonight, ok? lol... I've got a thread over in the F-toy forum on Pirate right now, but might move it to the Gen4x4 forum eventually since it's really not an F-toy any longer.
  12. I've purchased and sold easily more than $100k worth of stuff on the internet over the last 16 or 17 years I have been online. A few years back, I purchased and parted out or sold 14 vehicles in one year. I've learned a lot about how to negotiate a deal, and one thing is for certain: firm is NOT always firm I've made a LOT of lowball offers, and plenty of them are on "firm" items that I end up taking home. Like I said above - there is more to negotiations than price. For example - when I contact someone online with a low offer, the other part of that is that I let them know I will NOT show up and try to haggle on the spot, etc. I tell them once we agree on a price, I show up, I show up on time, and I show up ready to GO, cash in hand. My offer may be low, but the "hassle factor" is WAY lower than the guy who agrees to your asking price and then shows up and wants to dicker, or doesn't show up at all, etc.

lol... I think my plate is full enough right now
  14. It was simply an example that an invitation to come on someone's property is not necessarily without any restrictions at all.
  15. Get asking price, but you drive to Knoxville, on a weekday... Lowball offer, who will drive to your house tonight or at your earliest convenience... Negotiations can take many forms
  16. "Too low" is a pretty subjective concept, especially based on the sliding scale of the asking price (which may be (again, subjectively) "too high", making what could normally be considered a reasonable offer now seem - by comparison - "too low". Then again, I'm a natural born haggler... so it makes perfect sense to me
  17. The other day, I got a $60 discount on a $300 tool box at Home Depot because I asked for the "Super Awesome Person Discount". Point is - sometimes, asking for a deal even when the price seems "firm" pays off. Why begrudge someone for asking? Just ignore 'em if you are truly firm in your price.
  18. I kept wondering why you said it was something besides what I posted in the first post, but I guessed it would work itself out sooner or later I have found mine to be a very handy little light.
  19. Feel free to explain why what I said is incorrect. The rest - I'm not interested.
  20. Which gets back to what I said: you want to take the easy and selfish way of taking away a property owner's rights so you can get your way. I will say that again: You want to take away someone else's rights so you can have your way.
  21. They are controlling what is ON THEIR PROPERTY. Why on earth some of you want to keep overlooking that is beyond me. Yet you want to claim their property is not their property, when your car is on it. Your invitation to park there was conditional, it is not open-ended. Here, let me show you: I am giving you an invitation to come visit me, and park in my driveway. Your invitation to come visit me is conditional, and is revoked should you plan to come to my property wearing a clown suit. I do not allow people wearing clown suits to come to my property.
  22. Told you guys

A project like this can be as expensive or inexpensive as you like. I'm a pretty cheap guy, so I'm doing this a little slower, trading and swapping to get what I want. In case you didn't notice - axles/tires/wheels are all from my 4Runner posted earlier. Other parts I have purchased along the way as well. All told, I'll have less than $10k in this thing - but some build can easily get up in the $30, $40, $50, thousand.... or way more if one desires to go there. I'm lucky that I have the skills and tools to do much of the work myself - having to pay someone else to do a lot of this stuff is what really starts to add up. I'll try and keep you guys updated as I make progress.

Thanks guys. The upper chassis is a pre-fabbed F-toy formula Toyota racing chassis, I am taking it and building a full custom tube sub chassis underneath, 4 links, coilover shocks, and more custom stuff along the way. I'm looking forward to getting it completed over the next few months
