HB0355 (McDonald): Parking lot bill filed 2/7/11
DRM replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
lol... You know what - I can respect that. At least you recognize your position for what it is, and know how/why you got there. And it's sad anyone is put into the position to have to make that call, isn't it? Personally, I just can't toss aside my convictions... yet. Who knows - I might be right there with you, eventually. -

My apologies, and even though I can't stand using the ignore feature on forums, I'll use it for Robert from this point forward. -
I think it is poor situational awareness to focus on a little screen on your dash instead of the real, living, world around you. Mandatory back-up SENSORS? - yes. Cameras? No.

Another Parking Lot bill: SB 2061/HB 2021 (Campfield/Evans)
DRM replied to GKar's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I wonder how strict this could be interpreted. I know TX recently passed their version that basically says "in the vehicle, out of sight", however this seems to not be quite so liberal, unless one considers "or area not visible from the outside of the vehicle" to qualify a location such as under the seat as meeting the legal requirement. What about motorcycles? Would you be in violation if you arrived on-site carrying on your person, then transferred your weapon to a locked compartment once parked? Or would you need to stop off-site, secure the weapon "not visible..." then continue on to park? -

With all due respect - this IS about taking away property rights, so it is kind of hard to discuss proposed legislation and leave that part out. That said, the attempt to remove some liability as well as add some financial burden is a step in the right direction. The limitation to HCP holders only is - yet again - a big negative, IMHO. It really serves no functional purpose, at all. Id rather see them just pass the portion about removing liability and leave it at that, then let employers and employees seek out their own solution between private parties. -
<tinfoil>The screen is only on then in most OEM setups - but you have no idea when it is actually filming... and recording...</tinfoil>

For me, it's either my EDC pocket carry, or OC. I rarely go out in public with my shirt not tucked in, I don't wear sport coats or untucked "cover" shirts, and I haven't seen a tuckable holster that looks even remotely comfortable.

I really could care less about changing Robert's mind - it's clear he lacks the ability to discuss like an adult. I do however hold firm to the position that legislation such as this is a theft of property rights, even though the supporters of it do their best to ignore that fact while they try to get *their* way (everyone-else--be-damned). So if just one other person sees this for the theft that it is, I'm happy someone else "gets it" -

I've contacted mine, and expressed how bad of an idea this legislation is, as written - while suggesting other approaches that do not take away property rights. -

Dismissal, then mockery. Again, let me know when you can present an adult response. -

There's a shocker - Robert can't debate specifics so he jumps straight to blanket dismissal. Listen, you can disagree with me all you want... that's fine. But if you honestly can't comprehend the concept that you are advocating taking away property rights... And that some of us hold property rights in high regard - then you've got bigger issues that none of us can help you with. You claim that, yet you think you should get to control what is ON someone's land? Are you seeing the double standard you have prepared for yourself yet? -

As long as the property owner retains the right to ask you to remove your car for ANY reason or NO reason - then I could support something along those lines... and I agree - take "guns" out of the equation and bring the focus on defining property rights. -

The "vehicle" is not the issue, the gun is. The employer doesn't care about the vehicle - he may however want the gun removed from HIS property. If your gun is in your car on HIS property, you can either remove the gun, or remove the car that the gun is in... Either way - the gun is off of his property. Saying the employer has to ban all vehicles simple because he wants YOUR GUN off his property is absurd. However, dictating what can be inside of a vehicle is moving beyond the employer's rights and infringing on the property rights of the vehicle owner. Wrong - it is the property owner's concern what is on his property. Again, your argument is flawed. A person's house or shed is in THEIR back yard, not sitting on their employer's or some other business property (parking lot). If your house was sitting in someone else's parking lot - then yes, it IS their concern, Just as if my car was parked on YOUR property. The issue of searching a vehicle is a separate issue entirely. So they only get to retain their property rights if they can prove to you why they want those rights? No thanks, I have no interest in that kind of Totalitarian thinking. You do not have to "prove" why you don't want my gun on your property - you can simply tell me to remove it. All property owners should have exactly the same rights. -

My view? Smart phones and computers are EVERYWHERE. A microSD card with the SD adpater takes up VERY little space and can be read in almost any current computer, laptop, or cell phone. If you are to the point where there is NOTHING electronic working - IMHO you're well past the point of a situation where a copy of your birth certificate is going to do you much good.. paper or electronic. -
The washers are perfectly comfortable - both in width and thickness - relative to the thickness/weight of the blade. I'll probably clean it up, put an edge on it, make a sheath of some kind, and toss it in the side pocket of the truck for general farm/woods use.

I remember seeing a survival guy on YouTube some time back where a guy recommended keeping a small "urban survival" pack. One of the items in that pack was a flash drive or some kind - SD card or small USB drive - with image copies of potentially useful "travelling documents"... birth certificate, drivers license, SSI card, maybe a copy of your home deed, etc. Basically enough stuff to prove who you are and where you belong. -
lol... the washers - well, it was 1am, I wasn't thinking clearly Then again - as a test knife, I really didn't feel like spending a lot of time on carving out some wooden handles. I have some cherry wood I found in another box... I think version #2 gets a wood handle... maybe later this week.

Perfect! Then you *need* to go buy one of these for your shop, TODAY. It is the only logical solution!

Disaster survival, internet porn... it's all relative I guess... -
Well then - that just means you need to get out to the shop and make stuff more often!

I wouldn't live in/on a densely populated island nation where everything I owned could be stored in a 600 sq/ft apartment... That's a good starting point. How do you store food or other supplies when you have nowhere to PUT IT? -
I have had a cheap chi-com plasma for 4 or 5 years now, paid like $300 for it, still cuts what I need, when I need it. You might consider one for yourself...

This is what happens when I am out in the shop late at night Saturday about 10pm I headed out to the shop to close up, and decided to pick up a few things while there. Going through some boxes, I come across this old knife and decided I liked the shape of it. I also remembered seeing an old circular saw blade in another box - and remembered some people use them to make knives. <<wheels turning, wheels turning>> Hmmm... Fired up the plasma, then the grinder, then the flap wheel... grabbed some washers that were sitting on the bench, and fired up the welder. *poof* Not all that happy with the finished product - clearly my "vision" became cloudy somewhere after midnight But I met my goal of seeing how a saw-blade knife would turn out. Still a little thin for my tastes, but I will see how it holds an edge after I put a good sharpening on it. I may try another with the washers for a handle - I had the welder up too high and instead of a "fake TIG" look (I was using a gas MIG welder), I burned into the washers and left a rough edge. Next time I will turn the power down and get that nice stacked dime look around the washer perimeter so I can just wire wheel it and call it good.

Vendor over on Pirate4x4.Com - The largest off roading website in the world. posted this deal up, I figured there are some other garage fabricators who are ready to re-stock might like a little bit of FREE Buy 100 grinding wheels for $150, get a free grinder = Free DEWALT D28402 Grinder with 100 Cut-Off/Grinding Wheels Promo! Buy 50 flap wheels for $300, get a free grinder = Free DEWALT D28402 Grinder with 50 Flap Disks Promo! Yeah, it's a lot of money - but it's not off-brand wheels, and the price is good even before you figure in the free grinder (decent flap wheels usually run about $8 retail, for example). I've already got 3 angle grinders in the shop, but I'm considering the 100 grinding/cutting wheel deal anyway just to re-stock.
