  1. Feel free to think that - but I'd caution you be very careful about ignoring the issue and assuming it "can't" happen here. Attacking our ammo *is* the next front... trust me and my crystal ball on this one.
  2. I'm new here, so let me apologize if this is posted in the wrong place. I post a CA issue because it tends to trickle this way eventually, *and* it approaches my feeling that they realize that taking away the AMMO is the way around Constitutional issues. ********************************************************* Wednesday, March 19, 2008 - As seen on NRA-ILA Stand Up and Make Your Voice Heard Today! On Tuesday, April 8, the Assembly Public Safety Committee will consider legislation that would require gun owners to obtain a “permit-to-purchase†before buying handgun ammunition. Introduced by State Assembly Member Kevin De Leon (D-45), Assembly Bill 2062 puts ammunition sales in the crosshairs. AB2062 would require that law-abiding gun owners obtain a permit to buy handgun ammunition and would impose severe restrictions on the private transfers of handgun ammunition. Applicants for a “permit-to-purchase†would be required to submit to a background check, pay a $35 fee, and wait as long as 30 days to receive the permit. Under AB2062, it would be unlawful to privately transfer more than 50 rounds of ammunition per month, even between family and friends, unless you are registered as a “handgun ammunition vendor†in the Department of Justice’s database. Ammunition retailers would have to be licensed and store ammunition in such a manner that it would be inaccessible to purchasers. The bill would also require vendors to keep a record of the transaction including the ammunition buyer’s name, driver’s license, the quantity, caliber and type of ammunition purchased, and right thumbprint, which would be submitted to the Department of Justice or the number of his handgun ammunition purchase permit. Vendors would be required to contact the purchase permit database, to verify the validity of a permit before completing a sale. All ammunition sales in the State of California would be subject to a $3 per transaction tax. Lastly, mail order ammunition sales would be prohibited. Any violator of AB2062 would be subject to civil fines. 3. PM sent - and BTW - sorry to hijack your thread! Oh, and my AK74's
  4. I considered NoDak receivers, but it seems everyone around here wants to charge almost as much for the FFL transfer as the receiver costs... it's not like it's a lot of work - and I'd gladly buy them local if ANYONE carried them. Besides - I like cheap - and flats are CHEAP
  5. That's the spirit! I picked up two superbly conditioned AK74 kits as well this week - and have several AKBuilder flats on their way to me for those and the AK47's (mainly so I can double check my own flats). My first is gonna be an AK47 weld build, then I might try a screw kit on one. I'm not worried about authenticity - so rivets mean nothing to me. Besides, I think a weld build AK with a smoothed and polished receiver would be sexy This should be fun :D:D
  6. Wow, you guys sure are a friendly lot... and quite a few of you from Spring Hill as well! nice! I hope I can figure out a good way to fit right in.
  7. Guys, don't be afraid to spend a little time with a dremmel, a cloth wheel, and some jewelers rouge to try some polishing yourself. It's not that hard, and really doesn't take all that long. And when you are done - you get to say "I did it"
  8. It's ok to vent - it's healthy... for the most part
  9. Brave, stupid... close cousins if you ask me
  10. Well, I decided to take things into my own hands - and with the help of a friend's new CNC plasma table I started trying to get the dimentions right to cut my own flats. We'll see how ugly this gets
  11. Obviously the "3" version above is overdone, but I think you can under-do it and have it come out tasteful and looking good. A guy on another forum has been doing these:
  12. Thanks everyone. No, I'm not a member of Own Hollow. I was on their website today reading up about it though - since it is quite close to where I live. But the questions about their lease (and seeing how that area is growing up) has me wondering it it's a good idea to look at joining. As for the AK's, I'm not into them too deep so far, and I hope to keep it that way. I got the AK47 kits as a way to learn a little about the inner workings of guns. The AK74's kinda fell into my lap along the way. SHbicycle - if you want to pass along someone you'd recommend for the class, I'd appreciate it.
  13. I guess I coulda shared a little more info - lol. I enjoy fishing, off road vehicles (building them, and wheeling them), ATV's, and that's about it. I'm looking for both my wife and I to get our carry permits this year some time. I've recently picked up a pair of AK47 kits, and a pair of AK74 kits as my first foray into gun building.
  14. I wish I could fine someone local who has flats or 100% receivers in stock... I have 2 AK47 kits in the shop and 2 AK74 kits that will be in shortly - and I'd like to start building at least one of them. My plan is to do a weld-build first, then maybe a screw build - since I have the tools and skills to handle those unlike a rivet build. Then again - I'm new to this, so I am sure there is a learning curve as a work things out...
  15. My name is David, and I just found this place - thought I might as well sign up and see what goes on around here.
