  1. Why not try to do it yourself? Doesn't look all that hard - a sharpened point on a soldering iron for the standard stipple, more of a wire or knife point on one to do the tree bark. Oh, and a steady hand and some patience. Too bad I don't have any guns I want to ruin or I'd try it and post up my results.
  2. No problem - I'd rather someone find out like this than in the middle of a transaction where you might lose your guns or your money... or both.
  3. Interesting litmus test. Thanks.

    Gun Prices

About once a week, I do google searches for random oddball things. In that same light, just occasionally go around discussing a wide variety of firearms you really don't own... or do you?
  5. I prefer a more active role rather than a passive one. Such as discussing overly high prices openly to let others know before they walk in the door and waste their time like I did. Oh, and BTW, I should have my NoDak receiver on it's way thanks to another FFL that is charging a reasonable fee for a reasonable service - which I have no complaints in paying And keep in mind - I started this thread in a light-hearted manner, as evidenced by the [rant] markings. I was looking for some good bater, and I think I found some... thanks.
  6. Funny thing about the conditional statement I made... *if* what I said doesn't apply to you, then it wasn't addressed to you - even though your post may have been quoted at the start But when you read the sum total of the thread, a reader can get the impression that some people/businesses are flat out complaining about having to "deal with" transfers. I am simply suggesting that it's probably better for you as a business - if you feel it is not worth your time - to just kindly say you don't do them, than to do them begrudgingly or charge some high price to try and discourage the customer from using you (which is what I assume Franklin Gun Shop was doing). And when I walk in a shop and ask about a transfer, and I get the feeling that the shopkeep is wanting to hurry me out of the way to get to "real paying customers", then yeah - it becomes a first vs. second class customer issue. And to be clear - if that isn't you, then it's not directed at you
  7. Several pages later - and I still don't see anyone complaining about a reasonable fee. But I'll be honest - if you guys who are FFL's want to complain about them so much - why not just stop doing them? I personally don't agree with the concept that FFL transfer customers are somehow less important than any other customer. I've got $12k a month clients, and I've got $300 a month clients - and I do my level best to treat every one of them as equal as possible.
  8. The black plastic. i really should keep my wood, since it's in good shape and with all matching numbers down to the knife & sheath - it's kinda cool to keep it OEM (well, except for the receiver and compliance parts, of course).
  9. Is he wanting to get rid of the black plastic furniture? I might consider doing some trading with him/you in exchange for my AK74 wood, all in pretty good shape.
  10. Are you guys intentionally ignoring what I said, or what? It has NO effect on the average guy putting together an AR for himself then selling it, UNLESS he meets ALL three of the conditions stated.
  11. Like I said - the language of the document makes it pretty clear that it has NOTHING to do with the average guy.
  12. I see now. Wish I could help, but I don't have any laying around. BTW - did you know that picture makes it looks like someone Bedazzled your stock?

    I'm sorry.

  14. In case you are not aware, using PayPal to buy or sell firearms WILL get your account locked. I know too many people who have had it happen. www.revolutionmoneyexchange.com is another option that some gun sellers have been through the TOS and found nothing against firearm purchases taking place.
  15. I think some of you guys are missing an important part of how this is worded. Generally, a person should obtain a license as a manufacturer of firearms if the person: 1) this; 2) that; and 3) this. That means you have to fall under ALL 3 of those to fall under the first sentence.
  16. Why don't you just cut the "dong" off, shape, sand, and stain to match? That's about as cheap as you can get.
  17. I'm lucky to have another forum at my disposal with considerable resources across the world to be able to help resolve many issues like this for their members. Good luck with your situation...

    I'm sorry.

I spent a few weeks on this game - it's a blast. If you want solutions, I've got tons. After you complete them all, it get's really fun to try to compete them with as few pieces as possible, or trying to complete them "unpowered" (without any moving wheels).
  19. I don't put all that much stock in how long someone has been a member of a particular forum. For example - I've not been a member here very long at all. And my post count and posts wouldn't really give you a clue that I've bought and sold tens of thousands of dollars worth of items over the internet since 1994, as well as buying and selling on eBay since the late 90's. That said, I generally go on the "feel" of the deal - much like I would in person. If it doesn't feel right, there is generally a reason so I call the deal off or am MUCH more cautious. And like others said - it also depends on the $$$ involved, as well as the item.
  20. I've participated in these threads before on other forums - I believe the general consensus is that most of us are married to women WAAAAAAAAY hotter than we deserve
  21. Unusual, I actually saw an AK stock @ the franklin Gun Show today - rare for me to see AK parts at the shows, mostly I only see complete weapons.
  22. Not dogging on you, but is there a particular reason it should cost almost $300 to get some guys together to play flag football? I'm in the wrong business - I need to start me a rec. sports league!!!
  23. [thinks to self] Would a recorded phone call to Bass Pro Shops asking if they can get me an AK74 receiver be amusing to anyone besides me? [/thinks to self]
  24. Yeah, I'm now worried a $50 transfer fee might be the least of my monetary worries after visiting them
  25. Fine, double it - 4 minutes. Fine - double that too - 10 minutes (even ignoring the option to email it, which is even faster and easier). It's the manufacturer - I'd hope he has the process worked out better than that. That's the background check? I was assuming the other $10 for that was reason enough to not include it in the $50 breakdown. I didn't - I was generous with the time. And even doubling the time for the items you questioned, it's still less than an hour's time, EASY.
