Actually, it does seems that you are saying that he end justifies the means. And your own example of some officers setting their radar at 12 over, and you setting yours at 20 over further supports that the entire system is arbitrary in nature, doesn't it? Arbitrary speeds that have no current relationship to modern vehicles or road design, coupled with arbitrary enforcement. I'm not saying to abolish speed enforcement... but back to the thread topic - the concept of making illegal to tell other people to "slow down" so an officer can tell them to slow down (and generate some state revenue too) is... well... patently absurd - wouldn't you agree?

Dear Robert - grow up and try to focus. The personal side jabs are really immature. What I was pointing out is that his mentality - and many others here - is the start of the slippery slope to losing freedoms for the sake of "safety". Does that make it an unfair trade? Maybe not, maybe so. But it is irresponsible to brush situations off like this by assigning some arbitrary 95% of blame to the guy who did nothing illegal. Odd how the guy who did nothing wrong is 95% wrong, and the people irrationally scared with no actual basis for that fear as only 5% wrong. I prefer not to coddle and promote flawed perceptions and assumptions that take away our rights. If you want to demonize me for that view - oh well, have at it.

Registered? I thought TN didn't "register" party?

I sense a trend starting here

Is that your case for why speed limits are set where they are?
-
Used to think of myself as a Republican, then realized my views aren't shared by either party - so I just call myself a Conservative.
-
So cars haven't improved braking, handling, or overall safety since speed limits were set 30+ years ago?
-
Shoot, I'd *love* to have my own hunting show. It would be heeeeelarious.

So what time do I need to be there tomorrow? I'll even bring lunch

Everything is worth trying to negotiate. I have negotiated the price of hot wings at Beef O Brady's. I have negotiated with my business phone/data carrier. I have negotiated free tanks of gas with the purchase of cars. I have negotiated with my bank on fees. I have negotiated with big box retail stores on any number of products. Look at it from a simplistic view: If speaking a few words can save you tens, hundreds, or thousands of dollars, why WOULDN'T you do it? I don't think so. I do think the US is a bit more hung up on this than other countries where negotiating a sale is not only acceptable, but an integral part of the relationship. To me it is the perfect example of a healthy buyer/seller relationship. Both parties trying to seek out the best price, and where those two curves meet on the graph BAM - a sale is made. Like I just said, it's how trade is supposed to work - on a micro or macro economic level.

The problem there is that your "implied" is an arbitrary basis set by you - just like the fact that I operate on the basis that pretty much everything is up for negotiation, and that is arbitrarily set by me. My experience has told me that after buying and selling thousands of items in person and online, pretty much everything is up for negotiation.... most of the time. Generally speaking, the people who like to think something isn't negotiable, are the ones who are trying to sell something I've done plenty of CraigsList and swap-n-shop deals by being the absurdly low offer, but I guarantee to do my negotiating before I arrive - and when I show up I show up ready to hand over cash and pick up the item RIGHT NOW, no further negotiation to take place. I can't tell you how many people have agreed to take far less in $$$ for my deal than others have offered based on a guaranteed easy face-to-face transaction... because there is more to a transaction than just the money. It's a pretty complex dynamic once you start peeling back the layers. As a seller of used stuff - I generally have a VERY good idea of what my item is worth in the open market. That said, one of my sales methods is that I offer discounts on multiple items sold at one time, to one buyer. Why? Because even though I may be taking less than market price on some items, I saved myself quite a bit of time and hassle by only having to meet and deal with ONE buyer for those items, AND let's not forget TVM Also, the firmness of someone's price depends a lot on their financial situation. As I said in the other thread -when business is down, I will take on contracts for less than I would consider in more bountiful times. Likewise - in booming business times - I might turn down or raise prices on services because I've already got more than enough work at the moment. That - in a nutshell - is how the free market works (well, that is how it is supposed to work when the gov't isn't in the way )

My reply to the other thread: Which I then later modified the last line just a little bit to: Everything is negotiable.. just not every time.
-
I was just about to reply back with an amended version of my earlier statement along those same lines as what you are saying: "Everything is negotiable... just not every time".
-
lol - if that's what you want to stick to... But as someone else who is in the business of selling my services, I recognize it's pretty silly to act like it's as simple as that. Anyway... back to the topic.

I'm hoping our private field has birds - but it's not looking good so far. Yanalhi's public field hasn't had anything but crows on it for weeks.

Funny, you work at a hotel and actually can say with a straight face "the price is what it is". Well, no - it isn't. Hotel room prices change based on the week day, the number of days you stay, holiday rates, military discount rates, AAA discount rates, group discount rates, rewards program discount rates, special sales, and special event rates depending on what happens to be going on in town at the moment. You guys even adjust your rates based on what kinds of deals your competitors nearby happen to be running. So if the hotel can afford to have a range of prices for a room from $59 to $159 - then don't be surprised when an person walks in and tries to get it for less than the $159 you just quoted him.
-
So you charge exactly the same rate for your gunsmithing, to every person, every time? Is your materials or retail markup the same every time, for every customer, no matter what? I bet not... You just like to negotiate on YOUR terms - which is fine. But it's still negotiable.

Personally, I don't have a problem with trophy hunting. I figure the state sets management limits for a reason, and as far as I am concerned - I don't care WHY you are killing those deer, but if you've got the slots to fill, fill them. I've looked over the number of deer taken every year in TN, and it doesn't even put a dent in the population. Since my family isn't all that into deer meat, I simply put the word out at church and some other places and put together a 'will call" list. I let them all know that as soon as I take a deer I won't be using, I will be calling the next person on that list - and if they want it, I will either drop it off at the local processor for them to pick up and pay the fee later, or they can come get the unprocessed carcass and do it themselves or take it to a place they prefer. Several people who like the meat but can't get out and hunt are able to benefit... win/win.

BTW, I came here today - for the first time in months - to look into paying to be a Premium member just so I could make use of the classified section to see about selling a few guns. I see them selling all the time here, hopefully I can move some as well.
