I have made it quite clear I should not - nor do I *want* to search your person, or your car. I simply have the right to ask you to remove the item or yourself and the item from my property. And yes - if my business closes, that is MY problem - and is between me and my customers, or potential customers. Why on earth do you want the government involved? but your car is on MY property. I should have every right to ask you to remove anything from my property that i do not want there. Oh, let's have fun... You are parked on my property. I get in your car. I am carrying a gun. Do you have a right to ask me to get out of your car? If so - why? I have a gun on my property, right? I should be able to sit anywhere on my property, right? YOu ask me to remove myself from your car - I ask you to remove yor car from my property - and I intend to remain right where I am... on my property. So whose rights a re 'right'?
-
That sounds all cute and all, but can you actually articulate that point? As in - can you detail how the retention of property rights infringes on the 2nd Amendment? And while you are at it, can you explain what you think the founding fathers would say if you told them you want to take away property rights over an issue like this? IMHO, they would be appalled at the concept that you think you have a right to bring your gun on to THEIR property - regardless of their wishes. That is something that invading forces do, isn't it?
-
I'll ignore the first part - because it's irrelevant. So is it your position that you can have ANYTHING (otherwise legal) in your vehicle you want - on my property - and I have to let you leave your vehicle on MY property? Is that really the position you are advocating? Because I'll be honest - I have no clue how some of you can advocate wholesale abandonment of basic property rights just because you want to have your gun with you.
-
I think you need to brush up on what is a right, and what is a privilege. Those are clearly defined terms, not just me tossing words around. You carrying a gun on to my property is NOT a right - it is a privilege by definition in the state of TN.

Let me ask it this way: I own DRM's Hardware store. I own the building, and the property it sits on, including the parking lot. Can someone give me one reason why I should have my property rights removed from me to be able to control the removal of a perceived threat being brought on my property? Should I have the right to ask you to remove a trailer load of fireworks from my property - because I perceive it to be a threat to my property, person, or patrons? Should I have the right to ask you to remove a menacing dog (enclosed in your car) - because I perceive it to be a threat to my property, person, or patrons? Again - this question should NOT be approached from the gun viewpoint, it MUST be approached from the view of the greater concern: the government RESTRICTING my property rights.
-
I guess I can put it this way - I am open to legislation that can meet the needs of both property owners and those who wish to carry. However - any time the two come up against each other, I can pretty much say that the deference should by default be given to the property holder. But *forcing* property owners to give up their rights is NOT the answer here. So anyone have any compromise suggestions? I am open to suggestions, but every option I have seen proposed basically tells the property owner they no longer have the rights to control their property as they see fit... and IMHO, that is a grievous attack on our rights.

Uhhh, no. "Private property" is a legal definition that does not change depending on whether or not you operate a business on said property. I have every right to tell the UPS driver to leave my property if I feel they have freight I do not want on my property. My right to *ask* you to remove you/your weapon from my property does NOT give me the right to "search" your person... that would be potentially be battery as soon as I touch you. I'm sorry, I guess you misunderstand how property rights work. The 'problem" is that it is MY property, not YOURS. that means - within the law - MY rules apply, not YOURS. If I don't want you smoking on my property - I get to ask you to leave. I don't have to have a reason, it's MY property, and you *should* respect that, correct? How would I feel? Well, I thought I was being pretty clear so far but I would be disappointed in their decision, but I'd feel fine, because it is THEIR PROPERTY not mine... so they get to decide. I think some of you need to step back and consider that property rights are one of the reasons you *have* gun rights... don't let yourself get clouded and forget which one is there to serve the other.
-
No, actually I don't see where you are able to draw a distinction between types of property. Actually - my guess is you don't own any business property, correct? Because if you did - you'd pretty quickly see that there really is little difference, at least I would hope you would. That is YOUR property, and YOU should be able to decide if you want guns there or not. Period. I don't care if you own it personally, or you and your wife own it through an LLC. That should be irrelevant, since you are still the owner and it should be your decision to make. As far as employees, again - property RIGHTS should trump your PRIVILEGE to carry a gun around on MY property. But like I said - I think there should be laws stating that the only recourse a property owner has is to demand that the gun be removed from their property - they shouldn't be able to fire you, or otherwise punish you in relation to your job.

I operate two medical billing and medical practice management companies - one in Brentwood, TN and another in Columbia, TN.

Again, I've now purchased SIX different Sansa MP# players off Woot and not had a single problem out of any one of them... ALL refurbs. I think you're doing something wrong
-
So are you saying I should be able to come to your house and park on your property and have guns in my car - even if you don't want them there? I like my guns, and my right to protect myself... but if you don't want guns on YOUR property - I can't see any logical reason your right to determine that should be taken away... can you?
-
BTW, I ordered one for myself this morning - mainly for the clip feature since my older (physically larger, but 1gb smaller) Sansa MP3 player is is pulling on the cord when I run with it in my pocket... being able to clip this one to my waistband will resolve that issue. All in all - that will now be 4 of these Sansa Clips in my house, and the refurbs working fine, the only one I had problems with was NIB... go figure
-
I have really mixed feelings on this bill, and to be honest - my view remains that property owner rights should trump your gun carry rights... period. IMHO, better legislation would be to simply make illegal to fire or otherwise punish someone for carrying on your property. If the law could be written where the property owner's only recourse is to request that the gun be removed from their property - and not fire you, or otherwise punish you - I think that would be a good law to have. But again - I have to view this as a property rights issue, and if I own a piece of property, I think it is WRONG for the government to be able to tell me I *have* to let you bring a gun on my property, if I don't want one there.

On a semi-related note, I'd hope the ads are kept searchable, since it can be a great tool to help get an idea of market pricing on different items.

I still play pretty much every day - takes a few seconds to run through my 3 fights. Anyone actually WIN any of the tournaments? I generally make it 2-3 rounds in and get beat.

I won't knock WW - if it works for you, it works foryou. My sister worked for one of the other major players in the game for a time - and even their own literature said the BEST of those programs claim a 5% success rate... To me - that's not saying much. I just don't want to bother with 'counting' anything. If I want something - I will eat it. I just might eat less of it, or plan on exercising or otherwise compensating for the splurge. And considering the real goal here is LIFESTYLE change - I just can't see someone being on WW for life, or counting carbs until they are dead. I *can* however see people making smarter choices about what food they put in their body and deciding to get more active... those ARE rational life-long changes that don't require any special tools, programs, or products.

Interesting stuff... All I can say is - I've lose approx 15lbs in the last 6 weeks or so. First I started off hitting the gym... HARD. Mainly just lots of time on the elliptical (burn calories - cardio strengthening). I was doing that 30min. a day minimum, at least 5 days a week. ZERO modifications to my eating habits, other than just watching how much I eat, along with making sure I eat at least something for breakfast. My thinking was to get my body ready to WORK. The last week or so though - I'm really trying to cut out carbs I just don't *have* to have. Am I being militant about it? No. Yesterday I had two JackInTheBox chicken pita's and an egg roll for lunch - lol. But I'm just not eating all that extra bread if there are other options. I've lost almost 7lbs since Sunday... not too shabby, IMHO. Then again - on Sunday I did a 1.5 hour workout in the morning, then paddled a couple of mikes down the Duck in my kayak that afternoon I started (at my heaviest) at 236, am down to 221.5 this morning, and would love to get down to around 205 (Screw those charts that say I'm supposed to weigh 185 - they are idiots). Biggest thing I have found is you have to change the way you eat AND get some real exercise in there (especially for us desk jockeys). IMHO - "walking around the block" is a pretty crappy long term exercise plan. It's a good start, but as you lose weight you need to be ramping up what you do, as your body becomes able to DO MORE. My goal - I'd like to run a race. I have a friend that asked me to run a 1/2 marathon in December, and depending on how thiings do I just might try it. Oh, a few more things: - EAT BREAKFAST! - morning workouts are great because you start the day with a calorie deficit - a big lunch is WAY better than a big evening meal - find any way you can to exercise - calf raises when you are standing there, TAKE THE STAIRS, pull some weeds, park a little further across the parking lot, etc. You'd be amazed at these little steps that add up over an entire day. - MAKE TIME in your day to work out. I used to say I didn't have time, BS. I didn't MAKE time. I have a job from 7-4, 3 acres of property to upkeep, 2 kids, and a pregnant wife. I now work out after 8pm, since everyone is heading to bed anyway and I would otherwise just be wasting time watching TV or on the internet. - Eat things you LIKE. Allow yourself to indulge a little, just keep it in control. I still eat pizza, and ice cream, and pretty much anything I want - I just recognize that when I "take" those foods, I need to do some "give" (activities) to compensate. Anyway - good luck to everyone else... we all need it

Personally, I'm not a big fan since from a distance, it doesn't really look "camo". I prefer something like this - that looks camo from far away, then you get up close and see the detail... Pirate4x4.Com Bulletin Board - View Single Post - Home done camo pattern thread -
If you got in on earlier pricing for both - why cancel? Go ahead and take delivery then re-sell for cost or cost+ and come out smiling. I ordered an AR election night that I *should* be getting in the next month or so. The place I ordered it from had some people back out due to the wait - so went ahead and got a second one coming. I don't think it will be a problem finding someone to buy it for what I paid or plus a little more for the trouble... Doooooo eeeeeeet!

Tennessee tracking mailorder/online ammunition purchases?
DRM replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Actually, no. See, I read it as 3 nouns: -persons -firms -corporations with a qualifying clause: -engaed in the business of with further qualifiers defining what BUSINESS you are engaged in: -buying -selling -distributing -storing -receiving -having in possession -using With yet ANOTHER set of qualifiers - with each of the preceding applying to: -shotgun shells -metallic cartridges So according to sentence structure - this does NOT apply to me since I am not "engaged in the BUSINESS of". -
Man, that is good news to hear...

Well like I said - I'm about 8-10 minutes down the road from them, and my parents; farm is about 3-5 minutes from them. Any idea what they charge for shuttle if you BYO kayak/canoe? I have always just rented theirs in the past.
