Request for examples of "Open carry victim is targeted first"
DRM replied to DRM's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Thank you for taking the time to post those links. Several of them I had already found myself prior to starting this, and reading through the others, I am not seeing any reference to actual cases supporting the position. Did you find source data in there? If so, can you point to it? What I did see was several stating the same frustration with there being no evidence presented. I also see several links to supporting data against the position that OC makes you a target, however that's not what this thread is about so I decided early on not to clutter the thread up with that data. -

Opinions on this subject - as has been stated - can be found all over TGO and other forums, which is why I asked that we leave opinions to those other places. Similarly - OC vs. CC has been debated in a multitude of other threads as well. Thankfully, neither of those are what I asked for, are they? What I asked for were facts. Why I started a new thread was to focus on the facts, and leave the opinions and discussions to other threads and other places. It seems some of you can't quite handle that, and find yourselves compelled to offer your opinions. That's not my flaw, that's yours. -

You have trouble with simple tasks, don't you? Common sense told me that the first post I made to this thread made my intentions and request pretty clear, yet you seem unable to understand that... Perhaps -you and Robert could exercise some "common sense" and simply avoid the thread if you have nothing of substance to add to what was requested? Just a thought... -

Then kindly stop replying to it, since you are unable to understand it's purpose. Thanks! -

As am I, which is why I asked for evidence. Or are you trying to say *I* am presenting that attitude? Is there a reason for the exaggerated responses? Why are you upset about someone asking for facts? -

You just did it yourself. You started out saying it is an opinion, then shifted to "cannot argue the simple fact". If you personally feel the need to base your entire carry strategy around ""insanely small chance, but I can't verify it has actually happened, ever" - that is your call to make. However, the problem I have is when you try to act - as you did above - that your opinion is supported by fact, which I have not seen any evidence of to this point. Again, if you area aware of the info I seek, I'd appreciate you directing me to it. I don't know why this is so difficult, or why people insist on trying to argue secondary or unrelated issues. I simply asked for supporting evidence. Do you have it? Share it. If not - what exactly are you arguing about, or for? I R Confused... -
I hear ya, man... but the discussion of clearly illegal activities puts the forum as a whole in jeopardy, and shines a pretty bad light on things. Were I the owner - it is one area I too would keep a tight lid on, so to speak. It is one thing to discuss - in abstract - the "rightness" or "wrongness" of certain laws, it is another entirely to discuss active participation in illegal activities.

I agree it is a reasonable theory - what I am looking for is evidence to support it actually taking place. -

Is that the standard answer around here for people who lack the ability to support their position? I seem to be seeing it more and more. -

All I saw in that case was the article's author claiming it *might* have been an instance of targeting. I also saw quite a bit more data where others researched the case and determined there was no supporting evidence. Actually, it is a significant difference. Not only in what I was asking, but in actually supporting the position of those who make this claim. If it has been exhausted - then those who make this claim should find it easy to support it with facts. Can you point us to these exhaustive sources for the data? -
Well crap - sorry for it. On the bright side - what have you learned? Sounds like you are looking for a better safe, can you improve it's location? Reduce angles of physical attack? What about securing the house as a whole?

If it has been beaten to death - then kindly provide a link to the thread that includes the requested information. Why do you think this is about proving someone wrong? This is a thread about getting to the truth. If that means some people end up wrong (possibly even me) - that's a fair price to pay for dispelling incorrect rumor and fiction and replacing it with the correct info... or do you disagree? -

From my reading of that one incident, there was no real evidence provided that his gun is what caused him to be targeted (in fairness - that is the lone example I found prior to starting this thread). But thank you for providing it. -

That's not how it works. The way it works is people who make a claim, have the burden to prove that claim. I am simply asking those who - repeatedly - make a certain claim, to produce evidence to support their claim. -
If this is not the proper forum, my apologies and please move to where it is appropriate. On the CC/OC debate, one of the primary examples given by proponents of CC is that those OC'ing are at risk of being targeted first by the bad guys. However, I am not aware of any examples where this is actually happening on a regular basis, if at all. I would like to offer a challenge for those of you who claim this as part of your reasoning: please provide a source for this happening, somewhere in the United States, to a non-LEO private citizen carrying OC as per the laws of his or her state. As it stands, I would suggest that this line of thinking is - until proven otherwise - nothing more than an old wives tale or urban legend. Notice please - this thread is not for you to discuss why you still think CC is better than OC. This is a thread specifically for the purpose of presenting evidence in support of the claim that: Open carry makes you a target to be taken out first by the bad guys.

Depends - google search results sometimes throw things at you in a different order. I won't make fun... at least they used the search feature first, then posted after

I'll do what I can when I find 'em.

Errors in "The Walking Dead" television show. What did you notice?

I thought the ones int he open top vehicles (Jeep, Samuri) were the funniest. I mean - seriously? I'm not saying grab a tank or hummer to drive, but at least something where you aren't TOTALLY EXPOSED would be a decent choice. -
Exactly the same. Never told you what they were sending, but I have had a dozen confirmations that we all received the light shown. Again - IMHO well worth $3.50 for what you get.
-
First off - not affiliated, just passing on the deal. Coast Flashlights | LED Headlamps | LED Lanterns | Knives & Multi Tools I got mine yesterday, ordered it on 1/17. Gotta pay $3.50 shipping, but it's a nice little flashlight. The light I got (and I assume you would get too) is their Mini Tac Torch, specs here: Mini Tac Torch LED Flashlight | 7830 | Coast LED Flashlights | Headlamps & Knives Pretty bright, and an actual push button rather than the normal twist-on/off method is a nice touch. Pic doesn't show it, but there is a keyring hole on the end. Anyway, well worth the $3.50 shipping IMHO.

I voted for both options, however I CC the vast majority of the time. Out of 365 days in a year, I would guess I OC *maybe* a dozen days total. Since I normally pocket carry, on days when I will be doing farm work, etc. and it might fall out of my pocket, or CC would be a sweaty mess - It's OC time.
-
Don't over think it - just buy one and start shooting. Next thing you know *poof* and you've bought 4 of them over the last few years
-
Model and caliber? pics? Wait - is this a sneaky classified ad? But seriously - of course you can sell it.

As did my wife... without a single failure - mechanical or otherwise.
