Anybody familier with GCP 1A Ground Commanders IR Pointer?
Romad7 replied to TerryW's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Like this? http://tnvc.com/shop/gcp-1a-ir-laser-pointer/ Says for gov/mil only so it's likely a knockoff. If not then I would be concerned that it grew legs and walked off an Army base in some soldier's bag. Its smaller than an IZLID,http://tnvc.com/shop/izlid®-1000p-infrared-laser-anpeq-18/ If it's real then it's a good tool for marking targets but for civilians I can't see it being useful like a PEQ-4/5 which is weapon mounted for shooting with NVGs and has a flood IR mode like a flashlight. Most civilians don't have a need to point out targets to other NVG equipped people but an IR aiming system on a rifle would be more useful. For the cost I'd rather go with a Surefire with an IR cap. -
You mentioned suppressor funds, my local dealer let me put a deposit with the rest due when the stamp is in. Might be a way for you to start the process for less cash.

Anti-Gun Senator Makes a Fool of Himself
Romad7 replied to RobertNashville's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I had to buy one, was on sale for $75. Couldn't pass that one up:-) Funny thing is that mine will look a lot like the one he was holding and in 300 BLK which means that I can fire a .30 caliber clip mag in 1/2 a second or something.... -
Hello All, My custom carry handgun from Tim Calhoun is finally done and ready for hard chrome. Thanks to everyone that made inputs in my "is it worth it" thread, because of your help and recommendations I was able to find a gunsmith that does great work and without the ridiculous wait. Here's the original thread, http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/64917-3875-1911-is-it-worth-it/ With the cost (I'm not saying how much but this is not a cheap way to go;-) involved, I wanted to make sure that I included every little thing that I wanted in a CCW. I was going to do a .45 but I went with .40 instead to increase the capacity a little. This gun is everything that I wanted the STI VIP to be. True officer grip length, full dust cover, and available in all gray (all my guns are black so I wanted to do something different). Here's the specs: 3.97" Hybrid SVI barrel SVI Slide tri-topped STI Frame Gray STI grip cut to officer length with officer MSH 120mm STI mag cut to officer length This one is before he cut the mag, the VIP grip is slightly longer than a true officer length. That Sandpiper looks good, I'm going to have to look into that. Man-pack (not Man-packs) is another nice looking bag that I'll probably get for school. I like the messenger bag style for a CCW man-purse so I can swing it around and access the gun.

Sako Quad is suppose to be a really good one, it's on my list. I like that it is a full sized rifle that can change between 4 calibers. http://www.sako.fi/sakoquad_features.php http://www.sako.fi/sakoquadmodels.php?range

My RIA is like that too. One thing that I've seen suggested is that the extractor is "clocking" or turning due to the firing pin stop not holding it tight enough. I installed a new EGW FPS and Wilson extractor and that seemed to help but I also had other problems too and had to send it back for work.

Surrogates with Bruce Willis was another one

We have about 4 garden/writing spiders, 5-6 funnel spiders and 1 orb looking spider that hangs out with one of the garden spiders. They are positioned in tactical overwatch positions around my perimeter. Anything that eats Mosquitos is welcome here as long as they stay outside. Had to relocate a huge funnel spider from my basement to the yard. I love seeing the garden spiders when they get huge. Pretty cool looking.

I stopped after the Opie thing, the HalfSack thing and the Deputy Hale thing. Great show but I can only handle so much disappointment. Same reason that I stopped Game of Thrones after Season 1.

Just to make it clear, the cellular version doesn't have a mandatory monthly cost or contract. You only pay when you want to use the cellular function otherwise it operates the same as a wifi only model.

Sweet, love that big a$$ Lifetime Benefactor label, makes me look important;-)

We have 2 iPads. Mine is a white 64gb wifi and 3G AT&T iPad 2. Wife's is wifi only white 16gb iPad 2 refurbished. I am a big fan of Dropbox and highly recommend it but with a wifi only model it can be inconvenient when there is no signal. I'm not recommending the Cellular capable model though unless you have a really good reason. The wifi only one doesn't have GPS, so consider if that's important to you. A great app that works with Dropbox is Quickoffice HD Pro. It can open and edit MS Office docs and edit or create them. Since you already have 17gb of work files starting out I would recommend the 64gb wifi only model. You might any to add DVDs and music to your iPad and will likely see an increase in work files and will want to have on demand access regardless of wifi availability. It adds up quickly. I am a huge tech geek and Apple fan but I have stuck with the iPad 2 since it came out and I still love it and don't see a real need to upgrade just yet. The only thing would be if the wifi is improved on a newer model such as with the new AC format but I would need a new Airport to take advantage of that and its notwoth it yet. You can save some money going with a used older model. Also, the white model looks great. I prefer a black iPhone but the white iPad is very nice.

Digital Ammo Counter , Really ?
Romad7 replied to Fourtyfive's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I like the idea and it looks well executed but I like to minimize electronics on my guns for simplicity and batteries always seem to die at the worst times. I like the grip window better, no parts to fail but I would make the cut much narrower to keep dirt out. Even on a rifle I would prefer windowed mags. On second look, the indicator should be on the left where it would be easier to see. Might be good for competition? -
I'll take one when the time comes. Maybe even a set depending on how it turns out.

The Glamping that I have seen in my wife's magazines usually involves at least being outdoors with all the luxuries of home. This is just ridiculous, just call it a slumber party. Edit: No, I don't read her magazines, she shows me these articles I swear:-)

Hmm, that target looks familiar... The Docter accuracy improvement program shows immediate results;-)

Dolomite, Do you know what the yellow line and the red text mean?

You can change the elevation and windage units here If your options are different you may need to update the app

Does your chart look like this?

I use Ballistic on my iPhone as well. I just print out a card with the ballistics on it and use that for adjustments. I can increment the distance to whatever I want (I use 25m increments). Then I pretty much just use the mil-dot app for ranging. With the Ballistic app printout and a Mil-Dot Master combined with a Mil-Dot scope, you have everything you need to make a decent shot if your tech fails you in the field. Learn to guage the wind for your holdover and you're good to go. What is your technique for estimating range? Here's a range that isn't too far for what you are looking for. http://www.rockcastleshootingcenter.com/

Metaloy sounds like a really good company for hard chrome. Highly recomended on the 1911 sites. Not local but sounds like one of the best options. My gun will be going there when its built.

I'm having him build a gun right now so it's good to hear more good experiences about him. So far I've just talked to him on the phone and email but he has been very helpful and knowledgable. He responds to emails quickly as well which may seem like a small thing but good customer service goes a long way with me. Not sure how I feel about all this good press though, I want to keep his build times down;-)

Looks more like a funnel/grass spider to me. I have a few of these guys outside my house and leave them alone in hope that they will catch wasps and mosquitos. http://www.spiderzrule.com/grass1.htm The Wolf spiders are usually smaller and thicker. Pretty close in markings though. http://entoplp.okstate.edu/ddd/insects/wolfspider.htm
