Home Defense Weapon- Loaded Overnight?
Romad7 replied to superduty's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'll be getting one of those when my daughter is mobile. Check out ShotLock for shotguns, I don't have one but it looks like a good option -
If you are wanting it low profile to put a free float tube over it, you can just chop the top part off. That's what I did to mine. Unless you find out it was done wrong then definitely get it fixed.

I have the same gun, can't go wrong with that one. Every man should have a 12guage, I'll probably have my 500 forever. Loaded with Z-max Zombie 00 Buck for clearing out the undead or at least the soon to be...

I need to ask my bank if I can abolish the debt ceiling on my credit cards, how cool would that be?! -
does anyone got a good source on 40mm hollowpoints
Romad7 replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
If you want to make the ammo I really don't care just don't try and talk an unlicensed machinist into making it for you. You may interpret things one way but a solid/hollow point projectile won't be easy to explain away as anything other than "anti-personnel". I'm done with your attitude but hopefully this will help someone else. [ATF Ruling 95-3] 18 U.S.C. section 921(a)(4); DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE 26 U.S.C. section 5845(f)(2); DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE (Firearm having a bore of more than one-half inch in diameter) 37/38 mm gas/flare guns possessed with cartridges containing wood pellets, rubber pellets or balls, or bean bags are classified as destructive devices for purposes of the Gun Control Act, 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, and the National Firearms Act, 26 U.S.C. Chapter 53. ATF Ruling 95-3 The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) has examined various 37/38 mm gas/flare guns in combination with certain types of ammunition to determine whether these are destructive devices as defined in the Gun Control Act (GCA), 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, and the National Firearms Act (NFA), 26 U.S.C. Chapter 53. Section 5845(f), Title 26, United States Code, classifies certain weapons as "destructive devices" which are subject to the registration and tax provisions of the National Firearms Act (NFA). Section 5845(f)(2) provides as follows: (f) Destructive device. --The term "destructive device" means * * * (2) any type of weapon by whatever name known which will, or which may be readily converted to, expel a projectile by the action of an explosive or other propellant, the barrel or barrels of which have a bore of more than one-half inch in diameter, except a shotgun or shotgun shell which the Secretary or his delegate finds is generally recognized as particularly suitable for sporting purposes . . .' Section 5845(f)(3) excludes from the term "destructive device" any device which is neither designed or redesigned for use as a weapon and any device, although originally designed for use as a weapon, which is redesigned for use as a signaling, pyrotechnic, line throwing, safety, or similar device. The definition of "destructive device" in the GCA (18 U.S.C. section 921(a)(4)) is identical to that in the NFA. ATF has previously held that devices designed for expelling tear gas or pyrotechnic signals are not weapons and are exempt from the destructive device definition. However, ammunition designed to be used against individuals is available for these 37/38 mm devices. This "anti-personnel" ammunition consists of cartridges containing wood pellets, rubber pellets or balls, and bean bags. When a gas/flare gun is possessed with "anti-personnel" type ammunition, it clearly becomes an instrument of offensive or defensive combat and is capable of use as a weapon. Since these gas/flare guns have a bore diameter of greater than one-half inch, fire a projectile by the means of an explosive, and, when possessed with "anti-personnel" ammunition, are capable of use as weapons, the combination of the gas/flare gun and "anti-personnel" ammunition is a destructive device as defined in the GCA and NFA. As a result, registration as a destructive device is required. Any person possessing a gas/flare gun with which "anti-personnel" ammunition will be used must register the making of a destructive device prior to the acquisition of any "anti-personnel" ammunition. In addition, the gas/flare guns are classified as firearms as defined by the GCA when possessed with "anti-personnel" type ammunition. Each gas/flare gun possessed with anti-personnel ammunition will be required to be identified as required by law and regulations (27 C.F.R. section 178.92 and 179.102), including a serial number. Any person manufacturing the gas/flare gun and the "anti-personnel" ammunition must, if selling them in combination, have the appropriate Federal firearms license as a manufacturer of destructive devices and must have paid the special (occupational) tax as a manufacturer of National Firearms Act firearms. Any person importing the gas/flare gun and the "anti-personnel" ammunition must, if importing them in combination, have the appropriate Federal firearms license as an importer of destructive devices and must have paid the special (occupational) tax as an importer of National Firearms Act firearms. Further, the "anti-personnel" ammunition to be used in the gas/flare launchers is ammunition for destructive devices for purposes of the GCA. Any person manufacturing the "anti-personnel" ammunition must have the appropriate Federal firearms license as a manufacturer of ammunition for destructive devices. Any person importing the "anti-personnel" ammunition must have the appropriate Federal firearms license as an importer of ammunition for destructive devices. HELD: 37/38 mm gas/flare guns possessed with "anti-personnel" ammunition, consisting of cartridges containing wood pellets, rubber pellets or balls, or bean bags, are destructive devices as that term is used in 18 U.S.C. section 921(a)(4) and 26 U.S.C. section 5845(f)(2). -
does anyone got a good source on 40mm hollowpoints
Romad7 replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Did I say something wrong? I did the research and I work in a machine shop, I do know of a shop that did get in trouble for making questionable items. Do what you want though. -

Just in case anyone is seriously considering this it looks to me like this would be very illegal without a tax stamp for each round. A hollow point 40mm would be difficult to explain as anything other than an anti-personnel round, especially if you to turn a person into a cloud of red sauce:-) I wanted to do a less than lethal (most likely lethal though) rubber buckshot 37mm round but it didn't seem legal after researching either. That is not something that I would be experimenting with these days and as someone who works in a machine shop, please don't have someone build one for you and put their business and freedom at risk. Play safe out there -
I was planning on converting my Saiga 12 to an SBS but I decided that I don't want to make it difficult to get rid of if should a full registration of evil black guns come down. I want to be as "black" as possible when the govt starts turning on the search lights.

I have a G30SF and I love the size vs a G21. I have normal sized man hands but prefer a slimmer grip. If you are set on a 45 then the 30SF might be a good choice for smaller hands. The 30SF is a great compact 45, I even use G21 mags in it and find its a great fit. I actually sold my traded my G21 for my G17 because I liked the slimmer feel.

Yayyy, I'm a trendsetter! Signed up, could be cool but I want a single stack compact 9 as my big surprise.

You can download from iTunes. That's what I use for all my tv shows, much cheaper than paying for cable/satellite tv considering that I only watch a few channels. I use an Apple TV to stream the shows.

Home defense and hearing considerations
Romad7 replied to PolePosition's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I am considering a 9mm AR build when things calm down. I am assuming that the effective range over my G17 would be considerable, what would you say the effective range of your 9mm AR is. Would you feel confident in using it to take down bad guys at 150-200 yards? Back on topic, I had a guy fire off a few shots from his M4 a few feet from my head without hearing loss or pain. I have fired my 12 gauge without ear pro once, that definitely rung my bell but no permanent damage. I would feel confident using either type weapon for HD without ear pro but would prefer a 9mm so that I could fire multiple times and still retain a higher amount of hearing for SA. A 9mm in a house should be plenty for taking out bad guys in a house even if I have to pull the trigger a couple more times. -
Yes, they would be smart to not give us a reason to fight...

Amazing rifle but I could outfit a small militia for that kind of money!

I am of the opinion that if someone wants to learn learn how to use all the cool combat gear then that's fine, America has some of the best training available just sign your name on the line and off you go. They will even pay you for the experience! Train how you fight is the way to go and for the majority of us, the fight will be in an environment where carrying a gun openly will harm our cause and deep concealment is the best strategy. In that case training with extra tactical gear will hinder your readiness for actual real world "operations". I'll be taking my CC class this weekend (CA escapee here) and this is giving me some food for thought as to how I will carry. Good article!

Victim decides NOT to shoot attacker!
Romad7 replied to walton6467's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yes, and the politics of shooting someone over there are similarly complicated... -
Before doing any work you should probably run different types of ammo through it just to get an idea of how it cycles from the factory. Mainly the low power bulk stuff. This will give you an idea if there is more work to be done if you want to use the really cheap stuff. The conversion shouldn't affect cycling much but that is one of the first things that will be asked about if you do have problems cycling low power rounds. I'm assuming that you are getting your info from forum.saiga-12.com but if you aren't you should check out that site as well for a ton of good threads on everything for the S12.

Victim decides NOT to shoot attacker!
Romad7 replied to walton6467's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Having been in situations where I was not shooting after analyzing the situation and the next to me was popping off rounds at a non threat, I think this guy did a great job showing restraint. He knew that his life was not in danger and that showing his weapon was enough to end the situation. He used the principles of escalation of force without even knowing it. Good job on putting the value of life over his own pride and anger! -
because a separate provision of the bill exempts “any firearm that is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever, or slide action.†Does this mean that I can have a bolt action AR? ooh ooh, maybe a lever action AK ;-) That could be interesting...

I was originally looking at 35 gun safes thinking that they would be enough space but now that I finally have my Liberty 50 installed I am very glad that I got the bigger safe. Once I put all my wife's stuff and my guns in there I could see the space disappearing quickly and my gun collection is nowhere near where I would like it to be (and the dang scoped bolt guns take up a lot of space). Also, the door organizer is a must, I would hate to have to put handguns on the shelves too and the pockets are nice too. Oh and I was mistaken, It's a Franklin that I have, very good safe though. At almost 1200 lbs, I want to see someone try to move it!

Supersonic? I'm not very knowledgable about air rifles but that sounds pretty good, what's a good rifle to look at that has that kind of velocity? That'd be a good small game rifle and I've survived on less in the field.

Can't post pics now but I love my Samson Evolution. It comes with 2x 2" and 1x 1" rail sections that you can put wherever you want and a full top rail. They also make the same one with different cutouts for Rainier Arms. Cheaper than the others that you mentioned, I actually sold a DD quad to buy the Samson. I have the 2" sections mounted at a 45 angle to the right and a holo sight on top. You can buy more rails if needed. I shaved the A2 front sight to accommodate the longer tube, it was pretty easy and I am happy with the outcome.

I think that will be my next buy and future carry gun. Let us know how you like it.
