I grew up in the "pore" side of Riverview . . . right before the mansions of the rich and famous

Halfway off topic, but close. Growing up in Chattanooga, ours was a two-story house next to a rental house that was a slum. As long as people lived there, the huge rats that infested the house stayed in the rental house. Whenever the house went vacant, the rats came to our house. At the ripe old age of 12, I figured out a solution. I'd open the second story window in the kitchen, and fry a thick piece of bacon and throw it out into the driveway. Then I'd put a .22 Short in the top barrel of my Savage .22/.401 o/u and wait. In a few minutes a rat would come out of the house to "dine." I'd let one start to chow, and then, "POW!" Largest one day take was 28. That house next door remained more fun in the future when it was empty!

I live landlocked in Nashville and would like to have a place to go for a dove hunt in Middle Tennessee. If anyone can tell me where to go (in a nice way) I would love to attempt to shoot some doves this year.

My youngest daughter who at the time was an RN working in Nashville as an ICU nurse moved to Calgary, Canada (yep, a guy was involved) and began working in the Canadian healthcare system. Cheap? YES! Meds? NEARLY FREE! Quality of care? ZILCH! Ability to get an appointment when needed or see a specialist? EXTREMELY DIFFICULT!

I've been to South Africa but never to hunt. I hope you have as much fun anticipating the trip over the next year as you actually have on the hunt!

I so very much appreciate the thanks some of you have offered my comment. I have never been, and will never be, a "controversial" person on TGO. The pain that so many patients and families I've counseled regarding COVID has been so avoidable. To see people choose thoughts and beliefs over family and friends has been very painful for me as a therapist. Folks, we have GOT to get back to "live and let live." Maybe we do not share all perspectives on everything, but we MUST uphold the worth of EVERY person despite our disagreements. Please, no one take me on for my thoughts. The bottom line is that maintaining relationships trumps any kind of disagreements. When all is said and done our relationships get us through difficult moments, not our belief systems.

Other than the sickness and death resulting from COVID, the saddest reality I have experienced in my work as a mental health therapist is the brokenness that arguing about COVID has brought to families, marriages, and friendships.

I have a Savage .22/.410 o/u that has been my preferred squirrel gun, the .410 more than the .22. 3" shells with #6 shot always worked for me. For those who don't like the taste of squirrel, I always put them in squirrel stew. -
Hey Fellow TGOers, I would appreciate your feedback and advice. It's about time to open up the gun safe and sell some excellent firearms that are tired of sleeping. I am not the brightest bulb in the pack in knowing how to value my firearms (to sell ONLY on TGO and our members). Thank you in advance for books, websites, etc. where I may discern how to price my firearms before offering them for sale. As always, thank you. I wish the very best for all of you!

I carry both at times, but am growing to prefer a revolver - just because I am an old wheelgunner!

I've been working at home as a mental health therapist seeing people by telehealth for the past year and it has gone well. Before the pandemic insurance companies would not pay for telehealth; I'm hoping that they will not change as things start going back to normal. My clients are so used to not having to come in to the office I am fearful many will drop out of therapy if they have to return. We'll see . . .

So as a therapist, I wish we still had mental hospitals; a short history on why we don't anymore. In 1955 there were 559,000 people in mental hospitals in America. (Would be over a million in today's numbers.) Through the late 50s and early Sixties, a trend called "deinstitutionalization" started in mental health. This trend was aided with the first psychotropic drugs that lessened the need for inpatient. In 1963 the "Community Mental Health Centers Construction Act" went into effect to build between 1,500 - 2,500 community mental health centers to get patients out of the hospitals and into community care. By 1977 only 650 centers had been built. In 1981 the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act shifted funding to the states in the form of block grants and states decided to spend more money on community mental health rather than hospitals, so it is from the early 80s we began to have more homeless mental patients on the streets. The lack of institutionalization plus the reality that you cannot force someone to get or stay on medication makes it difficult to treat the pervasively mentally ill. -
Jeff has done all my work for years; I wouldn't trust my firearms to anyone else.
