  1. I suppose my post wasn't exactly clear... This issue is already being handled by the States that feel like it's important enough to pass legislation.  IMO There isn't a need to pass a federal statute requiring background checks for every purchase.  That stated, if they pass this "have to do something legislation," why not allow carry permit holders (who have already passed a background check) an exemption from the extra step and fees...
  2. I know she doesn't have to take the course... but monies aside, it might be good to get the tennessee legal perspective if you could find a very qualified instructor. IMO - I'd be keen to do that if I moves to another state.
  3. I'm not in favor of knee jerk legislation . But why can't they put an exception for people with a permit who have already passed this. ALSO, THIS IS NOT A FEDERAL ISSUE! At best this should be handled on a state level. Unless it was somehow an interstate "problem."
  4. Black Valentine or Bush Blue Lake are great. Also try starting your seed planting with two plants every ten days or so for a continuous harvest. That way you don't get a metric ton of beans all at the same time.
  5. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2506135961/aguila-sss-sniper-subsonic-ammunition-22-long-rifle-60-grain-lead-round-nose   aguila SSS 60 500 in stock at midway!
  6. I used a drywall sponge wrapped in the tougher grit sandpaper to do the first "scratch-off"  and then the automotive style flat bar to wet sand past that.  The drywall sponge (in the pic) kept the pressure light enough to take my time.
  7. Done!  thanks for the link...
  8. any one know if this is still going on?  I suppose I will try the number tomorrow, just thought I'd get a heads up...
  9. So I watched a couple of videos on the YouTube about polishing slides and receivers (specifically my latest 10/22 project). Turns out to be an afternoon well spent! I got some Mothers metal polish, superfine steel wool, some 1000 grit and some 2000 grit sand paper from my local auto parts store and went to town. This was a used receiver to begin with so I didn't mind experimenting with it. I switched to wet sanding for the 1000 and 2000 passes. Videos recommended switching directions when you switch grits to reduce swirl/streaks. Results are below. I could have spent some more time getting out a couple of the deeper scratches, but those will be pretty well hidden by the stock that I will be putting this into. The finish is pretty smooth!
  10. very interesting indeed... Love to be part of this!
  11. LOVE the reticle on this sight!
  12. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin%27s_law   I see this all the time on the Facebook.  Not exempt here on the TGO either.  Funny that they made it a "Law."
  13. Is it a flattop with a rail? A good set or iron sights is a great start. They never need batteries.
  14. Wonder if all this new legislation could be related to the NICS grant funding running out from the last "improvement" legislation?  So the current Sen. Toomey legislation is proposing to throw 100 million for the next four years in grant money for the same "cause."        http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/110/hr2640#summary/libraryofcongress   Section 103 - Requires the Attorney General to make grants to states and Indian tribal governments to establish or upgrade information and identification technologies for firearms eligibility determinations. Allows up to 5% of grant funding for Indian tribal governments, including tribal judicial systems. Specifies allowable uses of grant funds. Authorizes appropriations for FY2009-FY2013. Prohibits the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) from charging user fees for NICS background checks.   ( b. )VOLUNTARY BACKGROUND CHECKS.-Not later than 90 days after the date of enactment of the Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2013, the Attorney General shall promulgate regulations allowing licensees to use the National Instant Criminal Background Check System established under this section for purposes of conducting voluntary preemployment background checks on prospective employees.".
  15. +1 for the Benjamin trail np.... Patience is a virtue and people seem to have short attention spans. Just wait it out and it will go back to whatever the new normal is. Change is a part of the process. And I am all out of cliches - time to ride off into the sunset?
  16. +1 to this setup. I am well on my way!
  17. In what area should we be looking?

  19. If its any consolation I have been there... took a semester off came back and kicked ass on the deans list by the time I graduated. You gotta find your motivation. Also remember college is more about learning how to learn. The piece of paper at the end is just a nice prize.
  20. Well I ended up with a Benjamin trail xp in .22. So far very happy with the low noise... accuracy is taking some getting used to. I can hit a 3" steel at 20 yards with no problem. Trigger is average quality, might consider upgrading that later. Also might try some different types of ammo to see what it likes better. Using Benjamin hollow point domes for testing.
  21. A picture is worth a thousand words... Buckle up!
  22. strategic overtime, which costs the city millions of dollars every month. "It's a priority for the city ..." So your solution is to through money at the problem? GOT IT! Call us when you have any other ideas.
  23. “Waiting on the final outcome of an appeal might be an inconvenience on a small percentage of individuals,” Helm said, “but that outweighs the risk of releasing a firearm to someone who is ineligible to purchase one.” DOWNPLAY DOWNPLAY DOWNPLAY. Could you imagine the workload put on the system the most folks agree works marginally now? None of the legislation pays any attention to that aspect. It would be useful to a legislator to have information to quantify the expected load increase, and as taking a proactive step work towards improving/simplifying the system.
