Getting started in competitive shooting
sschrick replied to jwinter's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Is Orsa gonna have a IDPA classifier anytime soon?
go to the ORSA IDPA webpage and click on "contacts". Call the Classifier contact (John) and make the arrangements. He will probably meet you out there one evening to get it done. -

Gun show in Clinton TN this weekend ---- 11/17 & 11/18
sschrick replied to williamsburg's topic in Events and Gatherings
Yes, been to one of these Great American promos at this Armory last year (I think) very disappointing compared to the RK Shows at CHillhowee or Expo. Not worth the money or drive time in my opinion. Mostly private sellers with their personal collections looking to sell. Not too many handguns, or other accessories. -

Marine Corps helicopter pilot sues over Wyo. traffic stop
sschrick replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
regardless of the whole video and what was said and people's attitudes, I am pretty sure where the cop says that his beliefs, etc. . .TRUMP the Constitution is going to get him in hot water. i would be curious to hear the follow up to this story. . . -
Howdy, Neighbor. Moved from Knoxville to LC about 3 years ago. Sounds like you got a nice assortment of toys.

+1. All over the Bersa Forum and BersaChat Forum say to stay away from anything that is not an OEM mag, especially ProMag. Also, definitely take apart and clean and look for burrs or sharp edges. My original mag had no problems, then I ordered 2 more from them and had no issues with those either.

I have a NetGear Wireless N router. Setup over in the corner of my house. Two-story, total approx 2600 sq ft. Can get good signal anywhere in the house. Defintely get an N or N+ router. They offer extended range and speed. Linksys, Netgear would be my top choices.

one kid for sure is shooting an M&P9. He is about 11 or 12 by my guess. He & his dad have shot in my group before. also check out this link: http://www.scholasticsteelchallenge.com/ I think ORSA offers this club as well.

run a wet patch with Hoppe's #9 through the bore. let it sit a while. run a nylon bristle brush through the bore 2-3 times. then run patches through it until clean, then a light-oil soaked patch 1-2 times through the bore. but I only do this about every 300~500 rounds, not every time I shoot.

Passed HCP class and range qualification
sschrick replied to mj12's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
back when I took my class, I know we did not have to shoot from 25 yards. Hell, 1/2 the class would have missed the target. I think the farthest distace we shot at was 15 yards. But, we shot 48 rounds as well. -
just curious how much that Springfield and Colt 45's sold for?
-
funny you say that. I shot a Gen 3 and had similar discomfort on my strong hand fingers where they wrapped around the grip. Then, shot a Gen 4 and it felt really good.

Are you new to the Springfield XD series? If so, many many people struggle to learn the trigger. Have you done all the "typical" items to make sure it is not you: have someone else shoot it, shoot from a bench rest, try different ammo. You can rule all those things out and then if you think your XD has a problem, Springfield Armory has about the best Customer Service out there, just give them a call and they will check the gun over.
-
SA XD series is AWESOME. I seriously doubt you will ever have an issue out of that one. I love my XD9 Service.

yes, BT 380 are great little pistols, very good value and highly underrated. It is my wife's EDC. She loves it. very accruate, good shooter, no issues with mine so far. . .only about 500 rounds down the pipe, but not willing to give it up

Do you ever see other people carrying?
sschrick replied to gregintenn's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
since living here (8 years), I have only seen 1 OC at Sam's Club. I was watching how others reacted, nobody gave it the time of day. I have seen one full size 1911 Stainless steel in the small of the back (open) by some guy riding a motorcycle past me on the Interstate. I seen about 2 people CC that the holster poked out under their shirt. -
Shot my IDPA classifier last night. First one ever. Only been shooting IDPA (and competitively) for about 3 months now. all in all, not bad. Had a few mental errors early on. Dropped a few too many points in Stage 1. Really need to work on my distance shooting. Dropped WAY too many points in Stage 3. At the end of it all I ended up as: Marksman. I am happy. Only one way to go. . up. anyone else care to share any tales. . .

Tactical Advantage Corp...anyone know anything about them?
sschrick replied to timcar86's topic in Training Discussions
I met Eric (the President of this group) at Coal Creek (W.Knox) the other day. He told me he would be "owning" CCA very soon. He said he had plans to update the classes/training they offered, plans to update the rental case, etc. . . very nice guy to talk to; we talked about guns, shooting, competitive shooting, training, etc. . . I am actually interested in seeing what becomes of it all. I would not mind taking some classes from him and his staff. By the way, some of his staff is also now working at CCA. -
can't be 100% sure, but I think so

i don't pocket carry, but from what I have heard about the LCP, it has a very long and heavy DA trigger pull. If you keep it in a proper pocket holster, should be no problem to carry with one in the chamber. I do carry my other guns in holsters OWB and always have +1 ready to go.

Just got a proper belt. Wow what a difference!
sschrick replied to 10-Ring's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That is my next investment as part of my EDC system. Just ponied up and spent money on a good quality (Adams Leatherworks) OWB leather pancake holster for my Springfield EMP. Been breaking in the holster the last few days around the house. Noticed, I was "printing" really bad. Basically my current leather belt is stretching, sagging, etc. . . Also, could be it is fitting a little loose since I must have dropped a few pounds. Basically, the holster is hanging off my hip, it is not up tight against my body. Looking for belts right now, would like a brown leather (dress) type belt. . .don't really want a nylon (tactical) looking belt. -
Trijicon HD's. . .orange front ring.
