  1. Yeah, grease or fat and a long shelf life don't generally go hand in hand. Guess that's why I prefer a simple flour, baking powder & salt recipe for stick bread rather than a more elaborate bannock mix which usually includes shortening or fat - the bannock mix just doesn't store long without going rancid, whereas my "stick bread mix" will last pretty much indefinitely as long as it's kept dry and relatively bug free.
  2. We owe so much more to the greatest generation than we can ever hope to repay. The sacrifices they made on our behalf is truly humbling... or at least it should be. Thank you... :usa:
  3. I'll be bringing some of my hardtack on the 29th/30th. No extra flavoring because I always figured that the better it tastes, the more you'll eat it and it ain't for enjoying, it's for not starving when there's nothing else to eat. And yeah, as i alluded to earlier, the powdered garlic and cheese works better as a topping rather than an ingredient.
  4. Very well said, Sir! :usa:
  5. If you want something fun that's based in truth, but as far from actual events as possible (most everything in the movie happened, just not necessarily the way it's portrayed) then "The Mountain Men" with Charleton Hesston and Brian Keith is pretty darn good. ("Can't stand that nasty talkin' b@stard!!!")
  6. The Quick and the Dead with Sam Elliot Paint Your Wagon with Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing w/Lee Marvin And of course... THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN
  7. Agreed! "They Call me Trinity" and "Trinity is Still my Name" are great movies as is "Nobody" (the one Terrence Hill did with Henry Fonda). Speaking of Henry Fonda, "The Cheyenne County Social Club" where he partnered up again with Jimmy Stewart is pretty fun to watch as well. There are, of course, others that I can't bring to mind right now, but I'll think about it some more while I'm being unloaded and maybe toss a few more into the mix.
  8. You could, but it ain't a real great idea - Trust me on this. If you want garlic cheese hardtack and want to use the powdered stuff, you're much better off just sprinkling it on the dough just before you bake it. Again, trust me on this.
  9. And preferably not where they're likely to fall on it...
  10. Ever since they realized that calling it the 'I'm gonna' f*ck up your night! law' probably wasn't very politically correct after all.
  11. Good friends with a lady in Texas who chose her screen name based upon her childhood "porn-star name." No, she wasn't a childhood porno-star, but she and her friends played a game where they would choose their "porn-star names" using the name of their first pet and the street they grew up on; Mine would have been "Jed Corse" and my best friend's would have been "Rocky Ranch." (Probably better that you chose TAIKO.)
  12. People who were scared of this "zombie" never had to look at my ex-wife before she applied her morning make-up. Come to think of it, she even sounded about the same as the guy in the video... probably a good thing I never took her to Miami!
  13. Beats me, I'm still working on the sarcasm...
  14. Aw man! Um... what about us octagons?
  15. But was the index card shooting back? Well of course - I wouldn't expect any less. NOTICE TO BAD GUYS: From here on out your everyday street punk dress code will be modified to include a standard 3X5 index card, in contrasting color, to be placed appropriately, in order to facilitate target acquisition by law abiding citizens! This is a mandatory and permanent modification, NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS MANDATORY WARDROBE MODIFICATION WILL BE TOLERATED!!! There, that should do the trick!
  16. As opposed to the big soprano, alto or tenor fish race?
  17. Reminds me of something a wise old, uh... wise man told me once: "Those who live by the sword get shot by those who don't."
  18. Got it! And the advantage shifts to the fish when they know you have a fishing rod, which is why we should always carry a quarter stick of dynamite where they can't see it! (I like fishing analogies.) And it's fun to have... uh... fun.
  19. But is the index card shooting back?
  20. Scary thing is that I know some people who could do that and still CC.
  21. The movie was "Heartbreak Ridge." And I'm not really complaining. Hell, mostly I'm just glad that wrinkles don't hurt! (But thank you for your eloquence - I kinda' sorta remember something that someone, somewhere probably might've said sometime, too... I think...)
  22. I keep telling my wife that same thing and she keeps telling me that so does sunburn!
  23. So in other words, if I find a good deal on a handgun from a private party in Kansas when I go up in September to do Best Man duties for my best friend, I can't - because I'm a legal resident of Tennessee - legally make the purchase unless it goes through an FFL third party in Tennessee? Good to know in advance!
