Have you looked into Raven Crest Tactical? I've had their Nemesis for about a year and am very happy with it. It might be a bit heavier then what some prefer (15.16oz) but I really like the weight of it in my hand. And the dual action is still going strong despite my child-like fascination of opening and closing it 5 or 6 times every time I use it.

What's your definition of small? I have a Barnett RAZR that is a tack driver. I have 145 shots on it thus far with no issues to report.

Have you looked at the Kel-Tec RMR30 Carbine? Not sure how easy they are to get just yet. I have their PMR30 Pistol and have been very happy with it. There are reportedly some issues suppressing the PMR (haven't tried it), but I haven't heard yet if these issues carry over to the RMR as well. Has anyone out there been able to get their hands on one (RMR)?

The target stand is great......but I'm most impressed by your detailed build plan! Thanks for sharing, great post.

Another MK9 owner here. As stated above its a little heavier (not great for pocket carry) but it shoots great, to include one handed. It has functioned 100% so far with a round count of about 1,300. About 250 of that was misc defense loads. I just recently shot some 147grn "NATO" through it and probably will never buy them again. Even with the weight of the MK9 they rocked my world a bit more than I would want in any situation.

While the situation described by the OP does sound a bit suspect, there are some of us that use deer corn for purposes other than illegal baiting. We routinely have turkey and deer walk through our backyard and I like to put corn out in a couple spots so they slow down long enough for my family and I to enjoy watching them for a bit.....or until my 3 year old starts banging on the window yelling "urkey!" I have been able to get a turkey each season this year, but we just wait until after I've gotten one to start putting our corn out. There's only been a few deer so I haven't wanted to shoot any of them yet. As much as I like shooting and eating God's creations, sometimes it's also just nice to sit back and watch it. Two days before the Fall Turkey season started we counted 39 within a bow shot of the back porch, boy that was a sight....and a ruckus!

If you haven't already, check out the rest of the videos from Mat Best on his YouTube channel MBest11x. He has some hilarious rivalry videos between the SOF guys. There is also a lot of eye candy so it might not be safe fore work. Mat's a great guy and gives a lot of time and money for Veteran suicide prevention amongst other things.

Great looking build, nice job!

Academy in Cool Springs has a couple varieties of Aguila .22LR. The cheapest I saw was $3.99 for a box of 50 Lead, or $4.99 for 50 jacketed. They are not in the back with the rest of the ammo. They are right up front at the customer service desk. They had several thousand of each.

+1 it's a great sharpener. The Amazon price looks good, it think I paid $60 for mine at MidwayUSA.

That's a bummer about your long wait, but you will be pleased with the quality when you finally get them. For those who are contemplating getting some of their plates I would hold off till Black Friday. They have had a big sale (like 20% off) for the last two years.

I've used the non-chlorinated brake cleaner quite a bit for this purpose on non-plastic parts. I usually wear gloves and hold it over a trashcan that has a bag in it. It also works well to clean your cleaning brushes and jags before you put them away. A crusty old armorer taught me that and the first time I tried it on a relatively new .30 cal bore brush it dripped nasty carbon buildup into the trashcan for about 30 seconds.

Check out my Daughters school project!

That's Awesome! It's really cool to see that there are still youngsters out there willing to get their hands dirty, and good job Dad on helping her and giving her the tools to be creative. -
I would say the Mossberg 930 is worth looking into. You should be able to find a stock version for under $900, and even most of the customized variants are under $2k. I just picked one up from Salient Arms (after an 8 month wait) to use for 3-Gun. It's a great gun and about half the price of a Benelli M2. You could by a stock version and if it worked out for you guys you can send it in to a custom shop at that point to have it worked over.

It very well might, I am admittedly not as knowledgeable on the AKs as I am on ARs. I should have clarified which 7.62. I was meaning the SR25, MK11, M110 family.

Yes it's normal for rifles utilizing a free float firing pin. This seems as good a thread as any to ask what everyone thinks about "primer desensitization" and what they do with rounds looking like the OP's. Meaning, do you just reload in magazine and possibly reuse as a primary, or do you put them to the side and only use them for plinking at the range in case they don't fire. I have successfully re-chambered military ammo (5.56 and 7.62) repeatedly and never had it fail to fire, but have yet to try this with commercial ammo or older surplus stuff. I have noticed that the 7.62 rifles with the free float fire pins did not indent their primers as much as the 5.56.....not sure if the primers themselves are harder or what.

Night vision questions
Danger Rane replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Our military has been using them with great success for at least the last 12-15 years. When using the aiming laser it works best to mount it to your rifle, zero, and utilize with the goggles to aim with, while leaving your scope out of the mix. Trying to use an aiming laser while looking through a clip-on NV device mounted in front of a scope can can be problematic as the intensely focused beam can create a wash out effect on your scopes reticle, whereas an illuminating laser is diffused enough to provide artificial illumination downrange while still allowing you to see your reticle. One downside to clip-ons vs. aiming laser and goggles is that while all NV devices give you somewhat of a "looking through a TP roll" effect on your field of view, this is exacerbated with the scope/clip-on combo to being like looking through a paper towel roll. Obviously the best of both worlds would be a set of goggles and a weapon mounted combo aiming/illuminating laser to use for close targets out to 100-200m and a clip on in front of your optic that could be used on further targets with help from an illuminator. -
Night vision questions

The primary reason they recommend the lower power range scopes behind a clip-on image intensifier is that even with the Gen 3+ tubes, the higher magnifications give you a view full of (for lack of a better term) "white noise". When I used to use these a lot we had 3.5-10x vari scopes, and more often then not we were dialed down in the lower end for the best picture. The lower the clarity of the image tube, the lower you have to dial on your scope magnification. One really frustrating aspect of the NV world, especially the weapon mounted side of the house, is the lack of accountability with their "Target Identification Parameters". There are obviously several additional variables when shooting with and using NV, the biggest of which is the amount of natural illumination. I swear they must run their test at dusk, because they will rate a device capable of "identifying a standing man at 500m" but in reality, when it's dark out and only partial lum, if he's not moving, you probably wont see him at that distance unless he's standing in an open field with low vegetation. The good news is that if you are only looking to reach out to 200 you should be fine, and able to PID whether he's holding a weapon or not at 200. If you are already cutting off an arm and a leg to buy these you might want to look into weapon mounted IR illumination as well. While using an aiming laser isn't anywhere near as accurate as you will be with your scope and clip-on, having an illuminating laser (IR flood) can make a huge difference. A fun sidenote on this topic: With a decent illuminator and some experience looking through a NV capable spotting scope, it is actually possible to observe "trace" if you are in the proper position beside another night shooter. Any guesses how? -
Talk about a First World Problem!! My kryptonite is the horrible oatmeal cream pies that my wife buys for our kid's lunches......somehow they always end up short a few at the end of the week. I've told her she should stop buying them lest the children become addicts......but she just makes some comment about Will's power and keeps buying them!!

Many junior colleges offer the basic EMT 1/basic course, specifically schools with a Law Enforcement or Fire Science Academy. One additional resource depending on where you live and your availability/interest is to join a local Volunteer Fire Department. Not only is it a great way to get involved and give back to the community, but the diversity of knowledge gained is invaluable. Often times they have funding from grants, donations, ect...to put volunteers through the First Responder and EMT courses.

From experience I can agree that cracking off a couple rounds inside a vehicle without ear pro is something you will remember forever. But imagine from a LEO and potentially a jury's perspective when you try to explain that you were in fear for your life......oh and for my hearing too. Having time to put ear pro in, or even slip on a pair of handy muffs, in any SD situation short of a zombie apocalypse just doesn't play right. On that topic, I think it bears remembering how the train wreck of the Zimmerman case played out. The prosecution grasped at anything they could to demonize what most of us would consider somewhat "normal". They tried to turn his very limited Martial Arts training into him practically being a Ninja, despite his instructor saying that he sucked. They tried to make his handgun out to be a death dealing machine because it "gasp" had no safeties, despite it being a mediocre Kel-Tek that many would not even rely on for defensive purposes. While I 100% agree with the adage "it's better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6", I think that its especially important in this day and age to keep in mind the perception you set up for yourself should the need ever arise. While I would be much more comfortable having my AR, shotgun, and several reloads for each in my car every time I have to venture toward Nashville, I realize that {for now} the likelihood of me needing those does not outweigh the likelihood of me getting in a SD shoot with my carry handgun and having the fact that I had said weapons in my vehicle escalate the situation into something beyond a simple SD case. I'm not saying I like it, condone it, or even understand it, I'm just saying that's todays reality. Now a situation at your home is entirely different, electric fences and piranha filled moats should be the norm. In response to the OP's inquiry, I suffice with 7+1 in my carry gun, a mag of 7 in my off hand front pocket, and a mag of 10 in a "custom cut" piece of foam in my driver's door map pocket. The foam keeps the spare mag in place and oriented correctly for a fast reload. And remember your vehicle is also a 3,000lbs or more self defense tool. The silver lining of this biker punk fiasco in New York is that it has started some national dialogue among the sheep and the prepared alike. Now that most people have seen what these groups are capable of and willing to do, the statement "in fear for my life" might mean something. And hopefully the ass clown that bashed in the driver's window (and those that would consider similar actions) realize that in most other states he would now have a canoe for a head....

My family recently made the switch from Costco to Sam's Club due to their anti carry policy. We've been going there (Costco) for at least two years and I never saw it posted. Someone here on TGO had posted a link to http://friendorfoe.us/ a while back and I noticed that our Cool Springs Costco was listed as being posted. Sure enough, next time we went I walked all around the front entrance area and finally saw it over on the far right side. There is no way you can even see it coming in over by the liquor store on the left or through the "main entrance", only if you walk in from the far right. So anyway we made the switch. First thing I noticed is the people in Sam's "appear" much more down to earth then those in Costco, and there are certainly fewer Obama stickers on the cars out front. Sam's pros: not against CCW Corp level membership a bit cheaper Larger selection in several categories (particularly snacks, diapers, baby formula, protein powder) Monthly coupons are automatic when you purchase sale item, no need to bring the coupon book in Return policy seems on par with Costco so far Sam's cons: The "rewards" back on the corp level card are nowhere near as good as Costco's Their "snack bar" food sucks.....bad Costco pros: Excellent return policy Incredibly friendly workers Better selection on clothing Good rewards on corp membership. (If you spend about $200 or more a month in there it covers your membership cost) Costco cons: Posted no carry Limited selection in some catagories Low quantities of their seasonal items, so you have to know when its coming in otherwise it will be picked over pretty bad
