Idiot of the year goes to these guys (and it's only February)
Danger Rane replied to Sam1's topic in General Chat
Ken, as I briefly read thru this thread it came across loud and clear that you have a lot of disdain for the LEO community, I don't know why, and don't really care, but that is the message you are putting out. What you need to realize is that while a few in this group might have similar feelings to you, the majority of the group is extremely supportive of law enforcement officers and their willingness to deal with (on our behalf) the societal scum, and idiots like the guys in the video. I respect LEO's just like I respect our military personnel. They get up everyday, kit up, and walk out the door to face whatever this jacked up world is going to throw at them, and they do it for relatively little pay, and with an increasing lack of support at all levels. Are there bad apples in the group, sure.....just like there is in everything (to include TGO). But to minimize or disrespect what the force does as a whole based on a few bad apples, or to treat the guys walking the streets with disrespect because you don't agree with the law of the land is crap. If you want the laws/policies changed you have to come at it from a smarter angle than terrorizing the sheep and antagonizing the sheepdogs. -
Welcome.

I have a Husqvarna in the size you mentioned. Got it about 1.5 years ago at lowes, no issues thus far but I've honestly only had about 6 tanks of gas through it. I find it to be the perfect size for my tasks which are basically limbing and taking down trees periodically. There's not a tree on my property that I couldn't get through with this size, and it's not a back breaker to lug around and use overhead for a while. My Dad has a similarly sized Stilh, he's had it about 3-4 years, and it's a really nice saw as well. He has a 20" chain/bar combo and also a 16" combo depending on what he's doing. Prior to getting my Husq I borrowed a friends Poulan and was not at all impressed. Not sure where you are in Middle TN but if you want to link up and check this saw out before buying one let me know.

Woops. (TSA and Airport Police incident)
Danger Rane replied to suspiciousmind's topic in General Chat
A used condom, a syringe, a container of dental floss and 5 or 6 of the little shot size liquor bottles, 4 of which were still full. Seems like a waste, I would have at least chugged them over hiding them in the bushes. If the Nashville wino's were smart they would be combing through those bushes every night after a show. -
I'm seriously looking at the S&W Governor. None of my local stores have had any in stock for me to get my hands on, and I don't really want to order one without having a chance to adequately ogle and confirm that it's as awesome as my gun lust is telling me it is.

Woops. (TSA and Airport Police incident)
Danger Rane replied to suspiciousmind's topic in General Chat
Two situations come to mind. The most recent was in November at the Ryman Auditorium. It had been a year since I was there last and had no idea they started a security checkpoint outside to include metal detectors. Didn't have enough time before the show so I stashed my knife in the bushes along the side. The year before I had my pistol so I would have had to miss the show as I wouldnt be stashing that. Anyway we came out after the show and the stage crew were already loading the truck up just feet away from where my knife was hiding. Had to come back the next morning and get looked at like a crazy person by walkerbys as I rooted around in the bushes till I found my knife (and a lot of other weird stuff). The other occasion was several years ago flying from Denver, CO to Fayetteville, NC. I had 8 spare SCAR trigger modules (which to the casual observer look like AR lowers). On my flight to Denver I had declared them as firearms, even though they are a non SN# part on that gun. No issues. Flying out of Denver the checkin lady was confused and thought that they needed to be in 8 individual locked cases instead of my 1 pelican case. She wasn't budging and I had to make the flight so against my better judgement I explained that they actually were firearm parts not actual firearms. She said oh ok just check it like a regular bag. Upon arrival in Fayettevile I had some Feds waiting for me with my pelican case. It turns out that TSA scanners had picked up the 8 "firearms" and noted that there was no declaration card so they opened it up (never bothering to call or page me). When they saw the Auto markings on the selector levers they elevated it to the Big boys who had all kinds of questions about why I'm (a civilian) traveling with 8 full auto lower receivers with no identifying marks. Despite me graciously educating them about what is technically the receiver for that weapon system and showing them chain of custody paperwork and it ended up taking my civilian boss and a SGM from Fort Bragg coming down to the airport that night to straighten them out. Flew with the same package several more times but ALWAYS declared them and never had any more issues. -
Is it less arrogant if I use animals for entertainment and food? Don't worry, I don't usually use the same ones for both purposes

So I think the real story here is did y'all find the place you were looking for?

Depends on which "mil-spec" we are talking about. NSWC Crane approved the Geissele for use a few years ago, so yea I'd say that one doesn't suck But no thanks on a old standard issue M4 trigger. I've come to the conclusion that a good trigger and optic matter a lot more than what brand rifle they are in.

Thanks for the post, I was relatively unawares of this little guy. I like the look of their grip texture. Nice size comparison in the photos.

Marines get groundbreaking, unstoppable new rifle magazine
Danger Rane replied to The Legion's topic in General Chat
The funny thing is, a lot of the guys have been using these anyway for a few years, either purchased out of pocket, sent over in care packages, or as Omega noted issued by the unit in some instances. Now that they will be an issued item that everyone has the guys will want to move on to whatever the new hotness is. Military logistics lags so far behind technology sometimes that's its ridiculous. -
This is great, wish they would play the liveleak vid on the local news. That shop owner did everyone in that community a huge favor....he shouldn't have to buy his own beer for quite some time.

At first glance it looks pretty bizarre. The more I'm staring at it the more intrigued I am though. Can't decide if I like the dust cover area or not.

I don't have a specific number to throw out there, but for me it would be however much I could realistically afford to spend without negatively effecting our financial plan at the time. I'm fortunate in that my wife agrees with me that firearms and ammo can be looked at as a very tangible investment, not just a fun hobby, so I've had some leeway in that respect on some larger purchases over the years. That being said, half of my gun collection are pieces under $700, and my EDC/favorite gun to shoot was under $600. I'm in saving mode right now for a high end 1911, and it was really hard here on TGO just before Christmas with everyone and there brother selling off some real beauties, but I'll continue to save until I'm in the price range I'm looking at, and then one of you will be taking my money

This is probably the only topic I will ever say this to you on Dolomite, but I respectfully disagree. (with the caveat that the information you provided was probably accurate up until about 5-6 years ago) Not including the few units at the top of the food chain, the majority of our troops currently deployed to hostile theatres, to include infantry troops, are not even allowed to carry loaded firearms when not specifically performing a mission and under close supervision of leadership. It's a sad state but true. This is not necessarily a theatre policy, more often the decision of the Commanders at some level not trusting their own NCOs and troops not to accidentally shoot each other in the chow hall line. Combine that with the knowledge that our forces have been in advise and assist (not necessarily accompany) mode for the last couple years and it drastically cuts down the possibility of many 18-20 year old service members having much, if any, two-way trigger time. I'm not talking military as a whole, but the nugs specifically. I'm former Army, never been a LEO. Just came back from downrange in Oct.(contractor in an advisory role) and I'll say that in most cases I would rather a former LEO in good standing be exempt from the HCP process than many of the current 18-20 year old joe snuffys. The aspect that figures more into the HCP conversation for me is maturity. As far as I know all LEO start out at a minimum age of 21. While this certainly does not garuntee maturity, or grace under fire, it is apparently the universally excepted age for individuals to be deemed responsible enough to experience the wonders of handguns and hangovers. Being an 18 year old GI that might have been in a couple firefights certainly does not guarantee maturity or experience in CONUS conflict resolution. In some instances those experiences can lead to individuals using what they know works (violence) to solve the problem, when it might have been a problem they coulda/shoulda walked away from had they been mature enough to process it. Would I put a 19 year old private with a year long deployment pulling tower guard under his belt outside my house to face an immanent threat...sure if I knew there was no chance of friendlies walking into his sector of fire. Would I want a former officer that has successfully passed months of LEO training and certification to be able to skip the 8 hour class required of us civilians to carry a handgun....absolutely. Add in the fact that opening up the HCP to this relatively small demographic is already negatively effecting our carry reciprocity with other states and I think it's a no brainer that TN should have abstained from what appears to be nothing more than feel good policy making.

TN Lost Reciprocity With Washington State
Danger Rane replied to 300winmag's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Excuse me for saying, but that's a pretty short sided way to look at this.....it's not like you are talking about not going somewhere blatantly hostile like Afghanistan, or even outside the country. A lot of people have work that takes them outside the great state of TN on a weekly basis, do you recommend they just get different jobs? I have a son in WA that I visit 6-8 times a year, so this will be directly effecting me, and it's not like I can (or would) say "sorry son I can't come see you anymore, too many people out there and no more reciprocity". I honestly did not expect that this would actually pass here, as it just doesn't pass the common sense test. I've seen it come up in other places as a feel good thing to talk about...."our youngsters are old enough to take a bullet for the cause but not old enough to drink or carry a gun" but that's usually all it is, feel good talk. To think that just because an 18-20 year old is in the military he has been touched by the maturity fairy is lunacy. Add in the "snowflake" effect plaguing our youth and it's even more alarming. He might have more firearms training then some kids his age, but outside a few select military occupations it certainly won't be with a handgun. I'm sure there are plenty of TGO members that have raised their kids with proper firearms training and the appropriate mindset toward the use of firearms...but that is surprisingly not the case with many kids going into the service nowadays. You would be amazed at the number that have never handled firearms prior to their military service, and the time spent on marksmanship is an absolute joke for the majority of military occupations. I say all this having once been one of those young, dumb, and full of you know what youngsters and having spent several years as an NCO leading/nurturing a bunch of them. This was definitely a feel good measure that benefits very few and will negatively effect many. Good job looking at the big picture TN Leadership. -
