  1. Well the story is already getting spicier by the day. I'll try to find the link again but I was reading earlier that the two of them spent two weeks in some clothing optional commune, before getting kicked out for spending too much time together having sex instead of doing communal chores. They were passing themselves off as a 44 and 24 year old married couple.
  2. That sounds great! Don't worry about sending it though, I still owe you a visit to drop off some Simunition ammo and have a lower engraved. I'll just bring my KSG and impact driver when I make the journey and knock it all out at once.
  3. Welcome to the group!
  4. Much to the joy of our plastic surgeons, I think about a third of the women in America are guilty of this.....bless em.
  5. Was planning on making my own with a "1 socket and a grinder/Dremel, but figured I would ask on here if anyone has one that I could briefly borrow before I short myself a socket.
  6. Try $123,456 if you are worried about putting $1. If potential buyers can't figure that out you probably don't want to be dealing with them anyway.
  7. Not near enough if you ask me....
  8. In addition to the new administration's apparent desire to shake up the way we've been doing things (which I thing is great), we are at a point where a lot of our less frequently used ordnance (which happen to be he big ones) are coming up on their shelf life. Just like we all need to shoot or rotate out or EDC ammo periodically, the same applies to our national level "EDC". First use of a MOAB in combat....sounds way overdue to me.....plus it's good training.
  9. A Ruger LCP would fit the bill. I usually pocket carry mine but also have a clip (similar to that on a pocket knife) to wear in the waistband of britches without pockets, like athletic shorts. I wouldn't wear it like that to exercise, but I don't do much running nowadays anyway. When I need something smaller than that or want to run a NY reload I carry a NAA mini revolver in .22 Mag. It pretty much disappears anywhere and I'm comfortable with its shot placement and internal ballistics capabilities at contact distance.
  10. That's a pretty cool wife you have there!
  11. Welcome to the group Quentin.
  12. 9mm conversion barrel.
  13. For everything not stored in the house I use surplus ammo cans with a desiccant pack inside. I recharge them (in the oven) every 5-6 months. Usually based on the desiccant color at that point they are usually still ok, but I've had a couple cans I had to replace because the desiccant was showing moisture much quicker than the rest. I've pretty much gone away from plastic cans with foam "gaskets" for anything other than transporting stuff to and from the range as they suck. I'm curious to hear if anyone has used the rust inhibiting bags to hold their ammo inside the cans? As far as storage, I made a shelf system out of plywood that holds 3 rows or 10 cans and lets you pull out any of them without disturbing the others, makes for easy access.
  14. This was my understanding also, based on talking with a person at the online auction site and also with the county clerk's office (license plate desk) a couple years ago. Passed up on a low mileage one for $7k for this very reason. Was told it would have to be used on your own property or trailered to offroad locations.
  15. Welcome to TGO! To the best of my knowledge Strategic Edge out in Chapel Hill is the best place for medium and long range around here. I'm not sure where things are right now with the membership numbers (they have a cap) but I believe you can get on a waiting list if they are full. Great group of guys out there and I think it's worth every penny. They are VERY safety conscious out there, which I like, but I know some think it's over the top, so just keep that in mind. Again, welcome to the group, there are some very experienced and helpful guys on here to help with just about anything.
  16. For the workload you are describing you might take a look at the Miller Multimatic 215. It's a great hobbyist rated MIG welder, pretty decent stick welder and a good starting point for DC TIG (steel). You can also get a spool gun for it to MIG aluminum. The 215 doesn't have the duty cycle of some of the larger machines, but its versatility and portability sold me on it for field use and some lighter shop work. I primarily run flux in mine (lots of field work), but it runs solid wire/gas equally well. Also it has the MVP plug system to plug into a regular 110v outlet (preferably a 20amp or larger breaker) or into a 220v outlet for higher heat settings. Best price I found was online. Cyberweld.com and a couple other online welding supply places usually offer free shipping and alternate between being $20-50 dollars cheaper than each other. Miller usually has some sort of promo going that gives a rebate if you purchase some accessories (like the TIG kit and spoolgun). For oxy/acetylene rig the Victors are generally considered the gold standard, but I've used several smiths and never had any issues with them either. Not sure where in middle TN you are but feel free to message me if you want to check out my 215 to get a feel for it. If it's outside your budget don't try it though, because you will want to get one. I own/operate a mobile welding business and teach welding on occasion, so I'd certainly be happy to get anyone in the TGO family up to speed if needed.
  17. I got my lifetime about a week after they came out. The timing worked out just right as I only had a few days left to renew. As much as I'm bummed about having to spend $500 on it, I'm happy to see that they brought the price down. I though it was worth it at $500, so I think it's a no brainer for those under 60.
  18. Welcome
  19. I just looked at mine and where you have member title and birthday listed under basic info mine just has birthday. I checked it using a computer as well, thinking it might have been an iPad glitch, but it shows up the same way using both. I don't care that much, I thought it might be kinda funny to be a newcomer with 1000 posts, but at my current comment rate that might take me another 15 years.
  20. I'm guessing it's somewhere above 233. Not sure what the magic number is. I dont really consider myself a newcomer as I've been on here daily for a few years, I just don't throw my opinion out there that much I guess.
  21. Nice job on the paint, especially for a first! That's quite a rifle, or should I say quite a barreled action with a bipod! I like the simplistic approach, can't wait for a range report.
  22. Looks good to me. Now you just need a backup miniature red dot sight mounted on the top and some backup iron sights mounted on the side of it and you are G2G.
  23. Sorry for your loss Sir. That's a great looking pistol, made even better by the memories it carries for you and eventually your son.
  24. Not to fan the flames and lead this thread down a service vs service argument, But I will say that in regards to equipment the Marines tend to hurt themselves with the mentality of "we want to do everything the hard way" and with the dregs of equipment that the other services have left behind. While the "do it the hard way" mentality certainly produces some tough hombres, and the use of old equipment turns them into masters of improvisation, it hurts them in the long run because they continue to "do it the hard way" and with lower quality equipment going into combat where you are also going to have guys that want to kill you and Murphy added to the equation. For many of the highly effective units it has been shown beneficial to train the hard way but go into combat the smart way, therefore countereffecting some of the Murphy effect. The Marines mentality in this way also hindered them for years in stepping into the SOCOM arena, but that's a thread in itself for another day. To be clear, I have several buddies that are Marines, and the personnel as a whole are badass hombres, it's the overall harder not smarter mentality at the top that has them by the balls when it comes to keeping up with everyone else in equipment.
  25. Welcome to the group, I'd say you are off to a good start offering gunporn on your first day.
