Us too! First one we have seen all season.

The 9 yr old and I went back out for about an hour. He was GREEN with envy! He and I will go back out on Saturday without his brother. We are going to take a friend's rangefinder and I'll post how far the shot was. Something tells me we will e in the same spot.

My 13 yr old son, my 9 yr old son, and I went to Chickasaw State Park to hunt today. (We haven't seen anything there so far this year but, this got us out of cleaning up all the Christmas decorations that Mama was now tired of.) We live over an hour away and didn't get to the woods until almost 8 a.m. but, weren't in any hurry. My 13 yr old wanted to use our new climbing stand in a new spot today overlooking a cutover. I made him carry it and the gun he would be using all the way while me and the 9 yr old followed behind him with nothing. (I had to see how far he was willing to carry everything back.) He found a good point to the cutover and proceeded to set up the climber. He only went up about 10 feet and the 9 yr old and I left to go get our guns and go to our stand. I looked at my watch and it was 8:30 a.m. As the 9 yr old and I made it down in to the valley and crossed two creeks, we heard the loud, "BLAM!" that could have only come from him. We looked at each other and then I called out his name to be answered with a "WoooooHoooooo". We headed back up the hill and when made it to the tree he had been in, I looked at my watch. It was now 8:40 a.m. He had been in the stand 5 minutes or less before getting a shot off at a doe. He told us that two doe came out in to the cutover and he KNEW he hit the one he was aiming at. (He was using my Remington .308 since he would be able to shoot a good distance.) The doe, he believed, was only a hundred yards off and he knew exactly where she went. We followed him to a semi-road through the cutover and began walking, and walking, and walking. I told him that I thought it was much more than 100 yards. When we arrived to where he thought he shot her, I didn't see any signs and thought he had played a bad joke on us. As I was about to let him have it, he yelled, "There she is!" and sure enough, there she was. The round hit on the chest, just to the inside of the right shoulder and ended up obliterating the left shoulder. She only made it about 20 yards. Here's a pic of him showing the "5" minutes he was in the stand until he shot. (Little punk!) Here's the real question though. As I went back to the truck to get needed things to field dress and transport the deer, I stopped by his stand and took a picture back to where the boys were still with the deer. To me, it looked like 250-300 yards but, I could be waaaayyyyy off. Here is the picture with my boys circled in orange. If you look closely, you can see them as little orange dots in the circle. When I took the picture, I was standing on a tall stump and the stand was about 10 yards behind me. How far of a shot woud you estimate this to be?

I wear a shirt and tie to work 5 days a week. I did the MTAC thing for a while but, I've found the Smart Carry holster to work better for me. (Takes some getting used to.) I carry my G30SF and a spare mag to work in this every day.

Nice PCR! I picked mine up about two years ago and love it. It has never failed me. I haven't sprung for the wood grips but, those do look good! When I was hunting for mine, they were very tough to find. I bought it from Angus' place in Arizona (CZCustom) and had it transferred to a local dealer. Were you able to find one locally?

You have a lot of questions that some on here will be more qualified than I to answer but, please let me know if you can find a "public" place to hunt and get 3 deer in a day. I originally hunted for 6 years before I gave up with nothing to show for it. A career and kids kept me busy. When my 12 year old son wanted to hunt, I was ready to try it all over again. HE DROPPED A FIVE POINT WITHIN 15 MINUTES OF BEING IN THE WOODS WITH ME SITTING BESIDE HIM AT THE BASE OF A TREE!!!! (I really had to bite my lip!) Good luck with your hunt. Enjoy your time sitting quietly and enjoying what God has put together. Consider it a true bonus if you SEE a deer. And most important of all, don't shoot at movement. Clearly identify that you do see a deer before you pull that gun up!

IT GETS EVEN BETTER!!!! If you Google Map the address where the thug ran for refuge, you will notice that it is right behind a Memphis Police substation!!! It just can't get better than that. I can hear the liberals whining, "The police will protect you." This delivery driver was almost in the police's back yard and they could only show up after it was over.

Hats off to S&W. I dropped the 1911PD off at FedEx on July 20th and it was back at my door on the 1st of August. Not a bad turn around! I've yet to shoot it but, was impressed with how easy it was to get it repaired. In the meantime, I received my OS/PRO holster from HBE Leatherworks. This is my second OS/PRO and they are GREAT holsters. Jay

This may be the wrong forum for this but, I took my boys shooting this weekend and they wanted me to snap some pics with my IPhone to put up on Facebook. I didn't even notice this when I took the picture but, check out the flame at the end of the gun. This is my 9 yr old shooting my CZ PCR.

Just over a week ago, I visited my local gun shop and found myself in a tough decision between a new Kimber Pro Carry in stainless or a barely used S&W 1911PD. I really liked the S&W and I had always read good things about them so I made the choice and the S&W 1911PD came home with me. I finally got to the range today and after just 30 rounds, I was trying to engage the safety and it wouldn't go all the way up. I looked at it and the plunger tube has broken off the frame. (Sheared the 2 pins holding it on.) I really liked how it shot for those 30 rounds but, now it will go back to S&W for repair. At least they will pay for the shipping so I do feel better about that. It's hard not to think I should have went wih the NEW Kimber although it could have broken the same part or any other one. Arrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!!! Jay

I have a 22/45 also and I have to agree with Dolomite. I have taught many to shoot with it.

Chuck, Which one were you? I'd have been hard to miss. I was the only guy with a white shirt and tie.

The photo was really an afterthought as I knew there would be people looking at the thread and saying it was worthless without pics. Google can find you a much better pic of this stock pistol than any one I will ever take. I was hung up on getting and OD/black Springfiled Loaded Champion but, they are rare as hen's teeth and I really didn't care to have the ambi safety. I really like the OD/black look so I'm considering adding a set of OD grips. What are your thoughts on the VZ grips in OD? Suggestions? I don't want anything that's too rough because I will carry this gun and don't want it snagging clothes or rubbing me raw.

This week I had the craving for another 1911 so I stopped by my local friendly gun shop and a Commander sized S&W 1911PD wouldn't leave me alone so I had to take it home. I really liked how light it was and didn't know about the scandium frame at the time I bought it. Hopefully I'll get out to shoot it this week. What can you tell me about the S&W 1911PD? I really wished for more time to research before I bought it but, when I do that I always end up wanting guns that I can't afford and still feed the kids. Here is the obligatory, "prove it", photo.

I'm in the market for a 1911 and I have a specific one I want although it seems to be hard to find. It is a Springfield Armory Loaded Champion in a Bi-Tone finish of olive and black. My question is how durable is the olive finish on this frame? Does it scratch off easily? This gun won't be a safe queen but, I don't want it to scratch up too quickly. Thanks, Jay

When my, now, 13 yr old was 4, he would come down the stairs on Saturday mornings and catch me watching shows on the Speed Channel. There was usually some large breasted, big haired hottie introducing each new show and he would say, "Daddy, she's not ugly. Is she?"

Congratulations! 1991 must have been a good year. My wife and I will hit our 20 year mark in May. We're taking our first cruise to celebrate in just a few weeks. The kids asked when we were taking them on a cruise and I promised to take them on the same number of cruises my parents took me on. (Yeah... a big fat ZERO!)

I watch it for mind numbing entertainment but, it is very predictable. There's always the drama of whether the latest creation will work or not and how their entire lives may hinge on it. Oooooooohhhhh..... My favorite part is when he makes the guy clean the bathrooms before he hires him for a few hours. I like Will's attitude that you have to be humble and willing to do whatever it takes to work for him. I know many people that should take that lesson to heart.

Great looking transformation! The next 1911 I get will be the SA PX9149LP. (I've drooled over it for too long.) It is the Loaded Champion model that is OD Green / Black combo like yours.

I can't say I "brandished" the weapon but, I made sure the guy saw that I was open carrying and it changed his direction. I was almost out of gas and in a bad part of town while working. When I pulled up next to the pump, I noticed five or six unemployed individuals sipping beveages out of paper bags beside the store. I slid on my rarely used Fobus paddle holster and holstered the gun. As I walked to the passenger side of the vehicle, I kept the gun on the far side from the "onlookers". Maybe two galllons had hit the tank before one of the unemployed, paper bag beverage sipping, individuals decided he'd like to come out and speak with me. As he neared the back of the vehicle, I could hear him "clanking" some coins in his hand. When he got about 10 feet from the vehicle, he called out, "Hey Mane!". I turned around the long way to make sure he saw the gun. (I'll call this brandishing.) He responded by saying, "Wuzzup?" and then IMMEDIATELY turned the other way and walked to a large fellow that was also filling his tank from behind the license plate (read old hoopty). I heard him ask the other guy if he had a "solid dollar" for some change. As soon as the guy produced his wallet, the change from the paper bag beverage sipper was thrown in his face and the wallet was slapped to the ground. He picked up the wallet and took off running. I immediately put the nozzle back, got in the truck, and left. That's exciting as it got. Scared me more afterwards than it did at the time. I hope that is as close as I ever have to get to actually using it.
