Informing a LEO that your carrying, at a traffic stop
jay1313g replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Another observation, those that have had a bad experiences with LEO's seem to continue to have bad experiences, those that have not had a bad experience, seem to continue to not have bad experiences. Isn't that amazing! It is the same way at work. Certain people always have the black cloud over their head and have emergency reasons why they can't be there and everyone else has to pick up their slack! I agreee with you 100% db99wj! -
Call me odd. I never thought a KelTec would be my favorite 9mm for carry but, I traded a cell phone for a P11 a while back. I didn't expect much out of the P11 but I have grown to love it. The trigger pull is long but it is light, small, holds 10 +1 and eats everything I have put through it! I can easily conceal it with almost any untucked shirt and it is comfortable. Go figure????

I'll be going up there today to order it. I'm trying to decide on a good OWB holster now for my Christmas "stocking". Prefer OWB leather and not overly concerned about concealment. I've been looking at the Don Hume Double Nine. Any suggestions?

Informing a LEO that your carrying, at a traffic stop

I have several friends that are LEOs and I try to put myself in their shoes. They are just trying to do a job and get home to their families. Hopefully, careful screening keeps out the rouge, "I wanna be a cop so I can beat somebody down" types. I have always presented my carry permit with my TDL and it has gotten me out of every ticket, although, I haven't been pulled over very much. (Presenting the HCP will induce the inevitable question about you carrying at the time.) Like the golden rule says, I just treat them the way I would want to be treated if I was in their spot. -
Nice! My wife will soon be looking for her own gun to carry and I'll have to keep my eyes open for one of those.

Thanks for the link!! Does the extended (13 round) magazine provide for a full grip on the XD Compact? I mean a grip without your pinky hanging off. I assume it will have the same grip as the standard XD when you have the 13 round magazine in it with the sleeve????
-
I do like the idea that it comes with the 13 round clip and sleeve so I can get a full grip on it. Springfield has a "Gear Up" program going on through mid January that allows you to send in a copy of your receipt and they'll send you 2 extra mags and a clip holster. I don't know if they'd natuarlly send the 13 rounders though. I'd buy the sleeves if that's what they sent. (14-18 weeks on the turnaround they claim )

I've had my heart set on a XD .45 Compact in Bi-Tone for a while now and I'm about to order one from Range USA here in Memphis. They gave me a price of just under $550 plus tax and TICS and will give me range passes and etc. I love the feel of a .45 and have shot a buddy's XD .40 with a 4" barrell but that's the most experience I have with it. Is there anything I am missing out on that would discourage my lust for this gun? I have another gun I normally conceal so I'll wear this one when I'm not as concerned about concealment. (Home defense, four wheeler riding, wearing large bulky shirt etc.) Can someone recommend a good OWB holster? (Yes, I will post pics when I get it.)

Anything with Angelina Jolie and guns! I don't care how unbelievable the shot is as long as she is taking it. Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Tombraider, etc...

I have a Ruger 22/45 and love it. It's a great 1911 trainer and has never hiccuped a single time. The breakdown is a little unique but I just have to "remember" how to do it each time I clean it. Great gun though!

I love my Warthog!!! I added the Pearce wrap around grip for about $15. It makes the Warthog much easier to control when shooting with the standard mag. (The mag with the pinky extension allows a fairly good grip though.) Congratulations!!!!!

Thanks for the feedback. I did speak to Kristen about two weeks back when I was at the range and liked the idea of taking him through a class. I'll be signing him up soon!

I read this a while back and still chuckle when I think of it: Definition of a STRIKE - Strangling the chicken because it's not producing enough eggs!

I want to take my 10 year old son through the youth firearms class at Range USA in Memphis. They have classes for 6-10 yr olds and another one for 11-16 yr olds. I think he is mature enough for the 11-16 yr old class but don't want him to be "lost". Has anyone been through this with their kid? Would I need to bring a .22 for him? I have a 50 yr old Winchester, bolt action, single shot, youth model, .22 that I learned to shoot with that will be great for him. I don't know if he could properly handle my Ruger 22-45 yet though.

A buddy purchased a XD 40 compact and let me shoot it at Range USA yesterday. I really liked it and remember the trigger being fairly crisp. It wasn't as good as the trigger on my Warthog but seemed better than the Glock I had before. Can anyone give me your experience/take on the trigger difference between the 1911/Glock/XD. The XD seemed to have a little bit of take up and then it was a 1911 like break.

I renewed mine by mail about a year ago and don't remember sending in a birth certificate. Is that something that changed recently. I was keeping an eye on the expiration date but the state sent me a letter and the paperwork to renew well before the expiration date. I received my renewal permit a good month before the old one expired.
-
I carry mine in a simple left handed IWB holster at 6 o'clock. (I am right handed.) I find this to be most comfortable and I don't have a problem drawing it. I think it depends on the build of your body.
-
I have a 9mm that gets more hip time because it is more comfortable but I prefer to carry the .45 when the clothing allows it.
-
I cut my teeth with a Glock so the larger grip on my Warthog was a natural transition. It runs through anything I put in the double stack mag and is more accurate than I ever expected.
-
+1 for the Kel Tec P11 It is thin enough to conceal comfortably and 9mm will get the job done.

Thanks for the pic db99wj! I'll look into that holster. I love the Warthog but have really only carried it on the weekends when I'm not in work clothes. I can see where some may have had reliability issues with a 3" since the .45 was designed for a larger barrel but mine has been smooth ever since I traded for it. I have also done a lot of work to any of the mating surfaces and have it smooth as glass. That may be another reason it digests rounds like I do Resees Peanut Butter Cups!
-
To each his own but I have a Para Warthog that is extremely reliable and more accurate than I would have ever thought from a 3" barrel. There is a small issue with muzzle flip but a .45 is kind of a cure for a double tap anyway, right. I find the Defender size to be very concealable and the Warthog holds 10 +1! I have this gun for trade in the other forum but that's only because I normally wear dress slacks and a tie. (no jacket) The best thing I can conceal is my P3AT. I'm wanting to trade it for a nightstand gun.
-
Thanks for the great info guys! How much difference would a 4, 4.5, or 5" barrel make in getting a .45 up to speed and making it even more effective? (reliable expansion)
-
I have a 1911 clone with a 3" barrel. (defender size) I've heard that the 3" barrel may not give a hollow point enough velocity to expand on impact. Are there certain hollow point rounds that are more reliable for the 3" barrel. I want to try to stay away from +P because of a.) harder to handle in a defender size, b.) increased wear on the gun, c.) what the lawyers will say at the self defense trial. (I know, at least I'll be alive to hear what they say.)

How much you wanna bet she gets frisked by a line of LEOs?
