I haven't had any trouble with Tennessee Reloads before but I did get a bad one last week. It jammed like a 3 point jam with the round angled up but not going into the throat. After I hit the slide a time or two, it closed and then I racked the slide only to have the case eject and leave the bullet in the barrell. I can only believe that the bullet wasn't seated properly from the beginning and that made the round too long to feed properly.

OWB Holster choices... choices...
jay1313g replied to jay1313g's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I can't find a Bianchi Carry Lock for the XD. Anyone have a link? Do they make it for the XD? -
I have a XD 45 compact with a 4" barrel and looking for a good, comfortable OWB leather holster. I prefer to wear it at 4 o'clock and would like it to conceal but that's not the first priority. I've looked at many but can't make up my mind. I can't find a local dealer where I can try them out. I'm about 5'10" and 185 lbs. I like the DM Bullard Dual Carry for versatility in case I want to go IWB but how well do the clips or optional belt loops hold on to the belt? I'm afraid there would be too much play in them. Thanks for the feedback!

To each his own but that's what I like about the XD. Had a Glock but never was 100% comfortable. I was always worried about a ND when reholstering. I reholster something like db99wj, making sure the grip safety is not depressed and I feel much better. I also like the trigger on the XD much better than the Glock. Just my opinion though.

I've tried to get my wife to take her class for a year and she kept putting it off but saying she would go "one day". Last month, she came in after a dinner with the girls from her work (Mother's day out teacher at a church.) and told me she wanted to go to the "Women only" class at Range USA on the 10th. Some of the other women that work with her had signed up for that class and it gave her the motivation to go. (I signed her up the next day before she could change her mind.) She's asking a lot of questions now and I'm digging it!

Canynracer, deerslayer, and db99wj, It must be a Memphis suburbs thing. The wife and I hung out with the neighbors and kids long enough to do some fireworks and then hit the sack. Man am I getting old! Took the wife to Range USA the next day to practice for her HCP class. Check this post out for the "range report" and how I may be in the market for something new! http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15651

TN Handgun Carry Permit Schools and Instructors
jay1313g replied to BimmerFreak's topic in Training Discussions
Kristen taught my son in a youth class before Christmas and my wife is taking the "Women Only" class on the 10th of January with Kristen. Clean, Christian atmosphere without the attitude of other local Memphis shops. I heard they were doing more classes than anyone else in Tennessee at one point. +1 to getting the fingerprinting done there too! -
Range USA in Bartlett was open from 10-5 and had 1/2 off of range fees!

I think the Range USA night for .223 is on Saturday nights. You can check their website at www.RangeUSA.com for the details. Great place to do business!

My wife finally signed up for her HCP class to be held on the 10th of January. She is a self proclaimed "country girl" with a .22 rifle or a Red Ryder but has little experience with handguns. She has been shooting with me once before but did not care for my Para Warthog a bit! She wanted to go to the range today to try a couple of pistols to see what she wanted to use for the HCP class. We started with the classic Ruger 22/45 in .22 caliber. She took to it quickly. After 50 rounds, we pulled out the Kel Tec P11. After two rounds of loooong trigger pull, she put it down and said, "I don't like the long trigger pull!" (Spoiled quickly by the SA trigger on the Ruger.) I asked her if she wanted to try my new XD 45 Compact and she declined by saying it was too big. I told her that our 10 year old shot it on Monday when I took him to the range and she agreed to try it. (I figured after two rounds, she would be back to the Ruger.) Noooooooooo...... She dumped the 13 round magazine like it was nothing and asked me to show her how to reload it! After finishing all of the 150 rounds I had brought for me to shoot, she said she's going to use it to take the HCP class with. (She did let me put one magazine through it. How generous!) I don't know if I'll get it back now! There's something about a woman that likes to shoot a .45! I'm calling her my "Tomb Raider" now.

db99wj beat me to it!!!! Only those with Glock butt could carry it comfortably!

Welcome to TGO! I live in Arlington and just picked up my XD 45 compact last month!

+1 on the P3AT. I've had a Bersa .380 before and found it much tougher to conceal. I carry my P3AT in a wallet holster every day. (Clean it often as it gets a fair amount of lint and this little gun likes to be clean to shoot well.) I wouldn't take a P3AT to a gunfight but it'll get a couple of shots off while you find cover.

I've shot the Walther and it was OK. Can't say anything about the SIG as I haven't held one. I have heard that both of these can be picky about ammo. I was looking for a plinker about 6 months ago and decided on the Ruger 22/45. It's eats any type of ammo and is designed to feel like a 1911. (I use it like a trainer but much cheaper to shoot!)

A week ago, I took my 10 yr. old through the Youth Firearms class at Range USA in Memphis. (Awesome class for youngsters by the way.) We spent about 1 1/2 hours on the range and he was able to shoot anything he wanted. He even pulled the trigger on a SIG 9mm a few times. He kept going back to a GSG5 rifle. If you haven't seen it, it's a .22 copy of a H&K that looks really sweet. He begged for one but I just can't bring myself to lay out $500 for a .22. We have a Ruger 10/22 (unmodified with standard barrell) that I could "tacticool" up for him to enjoy. I'm not looking to buy a $300 stock for it but I have seen a $100 Tapco stock that looked pretty good. Has anyone used one of these? Other suggestions for most "tacticool" for the buck?

+1 on the Paras needing a tight grip. My Warthog was the same way. It would eat anything as long as you showed it who was boss and held on tight. The cheap little Pearce wrap around grip helped a lot for other people I let shoot it.

A friend of mine just picked up the same $249 deal at Sportsman's Warehouse in Memphis last week. Great deal on a nice little pistol but I'd still rather have my Ruger 22/45.

I assumed "Hand Gun Permit". Hope I'm right on this one.

Range USA in Bartlett. Check their schedules out at RangeUSA.com. I just took my son through their youth class last Sunday and my wife is attending a "women only" class on the 10th of January. Great people to deal with!

A guy I work with offered to sell me one of these. I didn't know much about it and he said "You can get rounds for this that will penetrate bullet proof vests." I don't know if that is true or not but I really don't want to explain to a LEO why I am carrying a gun that is designed to shoot rounds that will overcome his last line of defense! (Hold off on the telling the LEO anything bit. That's for another thread.)

I recall taking my self proclaimed "country girl" to the range. She said she knew how to shoot. (.22 rifles was the extent of it) She and my Para Warthog weren't very agreeable! I've had to back her down since then and she's says she's going to take the CCW class in January.

I'm not sure what training you will do at RangeMaster but if you haven't committed to something you should check out Range USA. It's in Bartlett, which is just outside of Memphis and plenty of great hotels in a good area of town. I do my business and shooting there. I picked up a new XD from them Tuesday and will be taking my oldest son through their youth class this Sunday. They have a lot of advanced classes to offer. Check them out at Rangeusa.com! (No, I don't work there.) Never been to RangeMaster and have vowed to never go in Guns 'n Ammo again.

Criminally or civilly, plan to spend $30,000 to have someone explain your actions in court. My family's safety is worth it but, shooting someone for being in my yard???? Not so much.

I had a Crimson Trace on my 26 and couldn't have been more pleased with it. I had a buddy that got to try both and he said the Lasermax was quite dim compared to the Crimson Trace. I really liked being able to turn the Crimson Trace on or off depending on how tightly I gripped the handle.

I love mine too and carry it every day. I did experience some FTF issues at first but it is broken in now. I did do a fluff 'n buff because I like doing that kind of thing and the gun is kind of rough out of the box. You still have to keep a firm grip on it but you can't beat the firepower for the size!
