Deep stuff here in Arlington! (Outside of Memphis.) Maybe Range USA won't be very crowded today. My son's are begging me and the wife to take them shooting! Oh well, at least it will be 71 degrees by next weekend!
  2. Sounds like the rude guy was trained at Guns and Ammo in Memphis!
  3. +1 for the MTAC. Got mine a week ago based greatly on feedback from this forum. Comp-Tac had great service and this holster is the best I've ever experienced.
  4. I just received a MTAC for my XD45 last week and love it! It is everything I read about and more. I wore it around the family last Friday night with a tucked in T-shirt and nobody noticed. They were surprised when I showed them that I had it on. (Several family members have HCPs and we're not all rednecks.) I wore it over the weekend and it's like wearing a wallet. There is a little bit of new pressure that you're not used to but you get accustomed to it quickly. It wasn't the cheapest holster I could find but I'd rather spend good money on just one than a lot of bad money on holsters that I didn't like. I did get the "slide" version so if you are near Memphis, I'd be glad to meet you at the range and let you try it out. It will fit your XD9.
  5. George Carlin may have been on to something years ago. I wasn't a big fan of his but I remember him doing a bit on fencing off states and letting the criminals loose in there. How about we fence off certain areas around Memphis, put all the uneducated, crotch grabbing, no job having, want to sleep all day, 22" wheel riding, dope dealing, wanna be thugs in there and let them shoot sideways at each other for a few days? Whew! Sorry about that but I had to get it off my chest. Aside from the latest ordeal in Cordova, most of the "gun crime" seems to be centered in specific areas around Memphis. Let's play "Guess what area of Memphis will have a shooting tonight?" I vote Frayser will be on Channel 3 news in the morning! Any takers?
  6. Has anyone here installed a Powder River Precision trigger upgrade in their XD? Did it make much of a difference? I'm fine with the trigger on the XD but I'm sure fond of a 1911 trigger. I know this kit won't quite get to 1911 status but it helps based on what I've read on another forum. I'm mechanically inclined so I don't think I'll have a problem installing it. I have a hard time swallowing $75 for those two little pieces without it making a significant difference though.
  7. Range USA is the best I have ever visited. Just call RangeMaster and ask for info and you'll get a feel for the atmosphere there.
  8. It's a holiday for some. Not me though. I doubt you'll find anyone to answer the phone there tomorrow. Good luck patiently waiting for it to arrive. My wife has the same "run to the mailbox" illness now that she is done with the fingerprinting.
  9. Kel Tec P11 mostly but will likely have my XD45 Compact on more since I just received my MTAC for it!

I have a P3AT that I carry every day in work attire and a P11 that I usually have on me the rest of the time. Both are very reliable and fine to shoot once you learn how to work the long trigger pull. I can't find anything that compares with the size/price value of these guns.
  11. I am 5'10", 190 lbs and posteriorly endowed. (Too many squats in the weight room, I guess.) Situps wouldn't hurt though. Most of the jeans I buy have to be "relaxed" fit because they will be tight around the butt and too loose in the waist. I'm about to "pull the trigger" on a MTAC holster but, I'm afraid it won't fit my body type very well. I'm looking for feedback from my brothers with "back" out there. P.S. I'll be carrying a XD45 Compact with a 4" barrel.
  12. Welcome from Arlington! I took my CCW class at Top Brass years ago but spend all my time (money) at Range USA now!
  13. Welcome from just down the road in Arlington! I have several friends that have "escaped" to Atoka and may end up there one day myself.
  14. Some of you may have been following the saga I've laid out here about my wife getting her permit and choosing a carry gun. She went Friday to the DL station and completed her application. She's going Tuesday to get fingerprinted. Last night, we did the Range USA "date night" deal (awesome deal) and paid for a rental so she could try some different guns. She took her class and qualified with my XD45 compact so shooting a .45 is not a problem for her. She does have a fight racking the slide but is getting better. I thought we'd let her try some of the smaller 9mm units. She said she felt better with the 9mm but she still shot my .45 some. (She easily racked the slide on the well worn 9mm rental units.) She does not like a long trigger pull. (Hated my P11. Put 2 rounds through it and handed it back to me.) She liked the feel of the Kahr (thin) but didn't like the trigger pull. She tried a S&W 3913 and was great in the SA mode but hated the DA first pull. She ended up shooting a XD9 SC for most of the night. (Very familiar with it from shooting my XD45.) We struck up a conversation with the couple next to us and traded off shooting a clip full of my XD45 for their M&P 9. My wife was comfortable with the trigger pull on the M&P but, it was a full size model. Down to business: I know the XD and the M&P are great guns and I'm not looking to start a "which is better" battle here. The XD is slightly chunky for a woman (5'4", 105lbs ) that doesn't normally wear baggy clothes. Is the M&P compact much thinner or easier to conceal? She would probably need to go IWB at 4 o'clock to conceal (will not do purse carry). Thanks in advance! Jay
  15. Kristen did teach the class. Kristen also taught the youth class that I took my 10 year old to back in December. She is an excellent instructor! She also helped out a lot when I bought my XD 45 there at Range USA. She exemplifies the quality people you find at Range USA.
  16. Well said Joe!!!!! When will you be opening up a branch around Memphis? You would have Guns & Ammo out of business in no time!
  17. MudBugjr, Will it match a bi-tone XD45 Compact 4"? We've looked at the Tahoe Q4 and Q5i at the local Bass Pro Shops. I would prefer to purchase a used boat but I'm just not knowledgeable enough to feel safe about it. I am highly mechanically inclined and very familiar with cars but not boats.
  18. My family loves to go camping. In the past, we have had friends with boats and that boosted the fun level by 10X. We are considering buying a boat now. I have held this decision off for years but now may be the time. What are the restrictions for carrying on the boat? Understandably, most places we go are state parks and that would be out of the question unless the law changes but are there any other options and what restrictions apply there? We live just outside of Memphis so we could end up boating in Arkansas or Mississippi just as easy. I am assuming that the answer is NO but wanted to ask.
  19. My most comfortable way to carry is SOB and reaching with the palm out. I use a cheapie Uncle Mike's holster on my P11. (LH holster as I am right handed) It conceals extremely well and is comfortable. It's kind of like putting your wallet in the back pocket that you're not accustomed to. Feels odd for the first few minutes then you get used to it and forget about it.
  20. Off to the local Wally World with you! Now go.... go..... LOL
  21. +1 Deerslayer Couldn't have summed it up better myself. I have to push myself just to go in there because they can be so arrogant. I used to know the owner years ago and trust me, it is a trickle down effect. I personally do all my business at Range USA. They don't have near the selection but everyone is helpful and throw in range passes and discounts with every gun purchase. (I bought my XD45c there about a month ago.)
  22. I had one on a Glock 26 and loved it! I really liked how the difference in grip strength turned it on and off. I didn't notice having to change my grip with it at all.
  23. I love the P11 and carry it more than any other gun I have. It does have a long pull but I shoot it very well. I've got a good "feel" for the trigger and can "load" it to just before the break. I let a shooting buddy take it to the range yesterday. He wanted to let his cousin shoot a few different guns before he gets his permit. After firing the XD, he didn't like the P11 because of the long pull. I'd prefer to always have the XD on me but I just can't conceal it like I can the P11. Eleven rounds of 9mm in such a small package that has been 100% reliable for me is hard to beat! To make it even better, I traded a cell phone for the P11!
