Protech TR-3 vs Magic vs. SOG TAC-OPS?
tbenedict replied to DaveTN's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I always wanted to try a Whiskers, but never had the chance. I read about them quite a bit and the accidental deployment sounded like it was an issue for some (think squeeze vs a button press in a pocket). I would be more concerned if not clipped. Hopefully someone with more experience responds. I do have PT and have had zero issues, great knife that's more my size for EDC. -
Need advice on rechargeable dessicants
tbenedict replied to hipower's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have two of the rechargeable (by plugging in) Snap-on unit for my safe that seem to work fine in my safe. I put the fresher one on the top shelf and older on the bottom. Then recharge and rotate one every few weeks. Tractor Supply usually sells them for a reasonable price. Think I have one from them and one from Amazon. -
Nice, I've been keeping an eye out on a deal for at least a spare set. Seen a few, but usually too late.

Crimson Trace for S&W Shield 9mm
tbenedict replied to Slasher's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
For home defense I like it not having an off switch. But I mainly got mine for carry, and I prefer not to advertise it. It is hard not to grasp without activating when holstering or anything. I know, should be hands off, but getting out of a car and such... That and it reduces the holsters available. I have a couple now that work. The green laser is very slightly different than the red, so specify if you order something specific. -
Crimson Trace for S&W Shield 9mm
tbenedict replied to Slasher's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Mine came with it. Seems very integral to me. Definitely recommend the green if you get one. Note the green is slightly different when getting a holster. I'm still at odds with it for carry vs home defense, but it functions great. Just a preference decision. Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk -
Think that mainly applies to ones clamped (screwed/pinned/glued) to the sides of the tang. I read about several aftermarket options for knives like the BM Griptillian series.

TODAY: CTD BREAKS $300 BRASS 5.56
tbenedict replied to Old Mitch's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Wish I had seen this early enough. I'm way low. -
I have really been enjoying my HK Patrol in D2, but I'm not a heavy user. From what I read, your best off to strop D2 regularly so you sharpen much less frequently. Of course my AUS8 knives dull quicker, but stropping works well on it too.

I may be off base, but I thought about a .40 during the last ammo shortage when that seemed to be plentiful. Never shot one, just a perspective.

Did you order the 3D or 5A? Been a while since I bought a light, but the moon mode would be a step up from my S mini (Shining Beam). Big fan of neutral/warm for the CRI.

Knife Making Class or apprenticeship
tbenedict replied to lordjackel's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I did at least part of the pounding/heating/normalizing/heat treating (with a lot of guidance). The guy's did all the grinding/tempering/handle work. Great experience, now I want to try more.... -
Knife Making Class or apprenticeship

Thought I'd post a pic, wish I could take more credit. Olive drab micarta with pretty good grip and balance. -
I got mine there when I was there to meet Lee Ermey. I've been thinking about the KO Work sharp, but I would want the grinding attachment. After the experience of making my own in that small building next to SMKW, I've got a bit of a bug....but no space.

Nice! I used to find more bulk buy or closeout deals there. Last one I got was an M-tek Bowie that looks like a spitting image of a CS Trailmaster for under 20. Supposedly 440c steel. I still haven't got the edge on it with my little diamond stones...big hunk of steel.

Nice, they look "Badass".

It was quite fun taking a chunk of 5160 leaf spring to a great outdoor knife. -

It's actually in the building in their parking lot. Great guys there, I had a blast. They probably have contacts as well. http://mohrcustomknives.com -
Dundee? Nice blade.

Are those chisel ground or normal?
-
Very nice. I'm still having trouble making up my mind between a TR2 and a Magic (since I can't have both). Working in an office restricts me a bit, but I've found I generally don't like blades much love 3in for normal carry anyhow.

Benchmade has incredible customer service. I would call and see if they will fix it up.

What's in your pocket most often?
tbenedict replied to Handsome Rob's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I started with slip joints until I bought a EZ-Out years ago. The one hand opening and clip to keep the knife vertical in the pocket sold me. I'm not a steel snob, but I like the nicer ones. Always wanted a plain edge EZ-Out in the ATS-34 for better edge holding. I rotate through several knives, mainly between a BM 530, Sog Mini Aegis(picked up cheap), Delica 4 FFG, and a few others. All depends on the environment. -
Good thread, I was curious on this as well. How do you tell if the WASR is current production?
