  1. It's valid to note that everything you equip your house with might end up in the hands of the intruder. In my younger years I used to keep a loaded shotgun in the corner of my bedroom for emergencies. One friday night I walked in my duplex to find a person in my den stealing my roommates' receiver. When the dust settled , I was truly lucky that he never made it up to my room, he probably would have shot me in self defense. When fight or flight kicked in, I truly thought he was trying to kill me so I, in turn, was trying to kill him for my survival. My response was not the way I typically handle situations, I'm usually calm and cool headed and if I could plan the event I would have just walked out the door and called the police but that wasn't the case. It took awhile to be able reflect on the situation and in doing so, I learned from my errors. 1-Situational Awareness is everything 2-"Non" conventional weapons (ie lamp, broom stick) are a lifesaver, know where one is in every room in the house and how you would use it 3-A loaded weapon is great if you are standing behind it, crappy if the guy who broke in is standing behind it. If you leave your house, take the time to lock them up or unload them 4-Make security a habit, try not to store something here, now there, now somewhere else. Always have a reliable, go-to plan, or spot or stashed gun. When something occurs, it will happen fast and you will probably be slightly behind the curve. The best way to try to catch-up is making your security plan an instinctive reaction. They will have the upper hand in the beginning of the encounter with surprise (based on the CQB rule of Speed, Surprise, and Violence of Action) but you can hopefully overcome your adversary with Speed.
  2. I strongly recomend NOT carrying handcuffs unless you are LEO, plastic zip-tie maybe. Be advised, detaining somebody is, most likely, a poor option when your main goal is safety and separating yourself/family from a threat.
  3. Just a quick statistic for you, off thread, but very valid.... In the comprehensive list of the history of human warfare, in the Encyclopedia of Wars by Charles Phillips and Alan Axelrod documents 1763 wars, of which 123 (7%) have been classified to involve a religious conflict. Of these 123, 66 wars involved Islam.
  4. Further more, the top worst genocides of the 20th century were all caused by atheist. Mao Ze-Dong, Jozef Stalin, Adolf Hitler, and Pol Pot (just to name some) killed over 115 million people and at the very best (for your argument) religions, or a lack of understanding them, have contributed to 1 million deaths.
  5. That the dumbest thing I read all week!! Just like GUNs are responsible for shooting everyone, right?? Coming from someone, me, who has some formal education in comparative religion, most if not all world religions have some level of ethics, morality, and peace superseding the status quo. Extremist in any group, sect, religion, country, race, club, organization, fraternity or anything of the kind could be dangerous. Religious extremist make the news.
  6. Just because I have a gun permit doesn't mean I can point my gun at my neighbors as I move back and forth from my car to my house. The fact that some of you argue on the side of the permit holder, only shows ignorance on gun laws and general lack of respect for the public.
  7. It's my understanding that the verbiage used could not be changed on a whim. It's has taken him far too much steam and coal to get to this point already and if he can't get the required votes he probably won't get another shot. I only chatted with him for a few minutes but I managed to ask important questions including where he would be on September 1st, I too question peoples motives a.k.a. slightly paranoid.
  8. I hunted south of Nashville, for the second year. I harvested 13, one was a double. Late start but it was a blast
  9. I will add....If you are a gun enthusiast, voting yes would be the bright option. Having the right to hunt in Tennessee added to the constitution will not only be a proactive way to protect our right to harvest our own food but also help strengthen our pro 2nd community. Just because you personally don't hunt doesn't mean that your child or grandchild should loose their right to learn how to hunt or fish.
  10. I met the guy who help write this amendment at a duct hunting quota raffle. He is a hunter, not a politician with an evil agenda. If I remember correctly, it stems from a law that passed in Michigan making it illegal to dove hunt! He wants the right to hunt to be added into the Tennessee constitution, to block politicians from passing laws like that here.
  11. Cheapest for the KW is got to be used military diesel generators. Set up an account with Government Liquidation, there you can bid on a used diesel generator and get a good deal
  12. I would strongly advise caution when making improvised devises with ammunition. It could be misconstrued as an explosive and you would find yourself in the middle of a hell storm regardless of your intent (SNAFU). You can reach the objective using a squib firecracker and fishing line. You can purchase these at any firecracker store, and sometimes grocery stores will sell them. Party popers will work too.
  13. I'm curious what you mean "by the bed during emergencies"?
  14. 2BUCKchuck, is much bigger up north then it ever would be down south. $2.00 bottle of wine isn't that uncommon in Tennessee, it just depends where you look for it (give or take a few). Charles Shaw is known more for being the first to sell mass cheap product in glass bottles than he is for selling good low priced product. With that said, I will buy a case anytime I see it, I applaud cheap booze!!
  15. Fletch: "Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course. [leans arm on hot engine part, then jumps away] Heyya! It's all ball bearings nowadays. Now you prepare that Fetzer valve with some 3-in-1 oil and some gauze pads, and I'm gonna need 'bout ten quarts of anti-freeze, preferably Prestone. No, no make that Quaker State."
  16. They need to slap a gigantic saddle valve on that puppy then cap the mainline. We need to hook BP up with a good plumber, then, they'll get the job done and have the worlds largest plumbing bill
  17. I don't have a dog in this hunt but if possession does not distinguish between "carrying" and having it in your home, then could I be breaking the law for drinking beers while in possession of firearms, when my firearms were locked up in a safe at the house?
  18. I appreciate your opinion and see how LE would try to interpret the law as best they could and enforce it in the same manor but they can't make charges stick without breaking a law. Were you carrying a weapon within the confines of this restaurant, no your honor I wasn't. Officer XXX, did you see mister xxx carrying a weapon within the confines of this restaurant, well, no your honor I didn't. Well, officer XXX, why did you arrest him for carrying a weapon within the confines of this restaurant? I believe that will be the last time officer XXX try's to interpret the law for judge XXX
  19. If you don't want to carry "outside of a restaurant where they placed a seat for your comfort" then don't, it doesn't effect me but if your suggesting that because ABC had to make amendments to their restrictions to allow patrons to drink "outside" then you are mistaken. You might find that within those amendment restrictions, they restrict entry and exit through outdoor seating area (not sure on that). I DO know that anytime "open air" restrictions exist on handguns bans, it is made C L E A R. I would use sporting events in stadiums as my prime example.
  20. That seems like reckless endangerment
  21. There is NO play on words, "within the confines of a building" is just that, inside of 4 walls, notice the wording with "CONFINES" . Yes, if you have to enter the patio from the inside you would be in violation at that time and a judge could find you guilty but as long as you remain outside during the entire time, you are legal. Oh, and I would also point out that you had no intent to circumnavigate the law either. You took proper precaution not to enter the "confines". I wouldn't try to question the "intent of the law" over "the wording of how the law is written" you are protected by the wording, but not necessarily the intent, a judge can interpret that.
  22. Be advised, if traveling into areas with bears.. On more then a few occasions scared dogs have brought angry bears to unknowing hikers
  23. Just because they serve alcohol doesn't mean you can't carry there. You just can't go inside. It's nice weather around this time of year, get seated outside and carry to your hearts content, but please do us a favor and conceal it, we don't need bad press and more restrictions.
  24. They are ingravable, you just have to click on the option
  25. I just had 6 gerber knives engraved with initials for my groomsmen about a month ago. I payed about 31 dollars a knife. Here is the link. Gerber Trendy Black | Gerber Knives | Hunting Knife on Sale
