  1. I would just go buy me a nice big Boa Constrictor and walk around with it on my shoulders every day. I think that would do the trick. There's no way in hell someone would do that to me. If someone refused to leave the home I lived in I would likely be going to jail for beating the piss out of them.
  2. I don't. I am willing to bet I could pick up a paper every day for the next 3 months and it would be pretty hard to find an example of this. I do see where people are charged with DUI/DWI and set free with a fine, etc. But being freed after a "4th offense" is almost unheard of. My wife's cousin is in prison right now for his 3rd offense. Before that, he was in prison for a few years for his second one. I agree that some people get out of DWI's because they can throw a wad of cash at it and hire a really good lawyer or pay off a judge. But that is common with lots of other crimes too. As the old saying goes....money talks and........ If you want to rid the world of drunk driving maybe you should just advocate outlawing alcohol. Of course, then people would just make their own. Prohibition never worked. We can both agree that banning guns will not stop gun crime, right? Gun control will not reduce gun crime, right? Well, putting people in prison for their first DUI offense will not stop drinking and driving either. People will still do it. I would even go as far as to say that putting every first time DUI offender in prison will likely create lots more criminals. Once you have a felony record you can pretty much forget getting a good job. I believe education and proper parenting is probably the key to this, but there will never be a perfect solution. I guess we can just agree to disagree.
  3. I grew up about 100 miles south of St. Louis, MO. So this one is a no brainer. Go Cardinals! They kicked the Nationals butts tonight! Won it in the last inning.....again! I've been watching them play since I was a little kid. They almost always fight their way back into a game.
  4. This is absolutely correct. It strictly states that if you got two of them in the past 10 years and at least one of them fell within the last 5 years you will be denied. One DUI/DWI will not cause you to be denied for an HCP unless it was a misdemeanor that happened recently. Regardless of your opinion, yes people do make mistakes. So by your calculations someone should have their life ruined because of a mistake they made earlier in life? Drunk driving does kill lots of people every year. You are right about that. I would love to see drinking and driving eliminated. But putting more people behind bars for life for just drinking and driving (and nothing else) will not solve a damn thing. Furthermore, there have been plenty of people put in prison for getting behind the wheel drunk and hurting or killing someone. There is no leniency granted to those people. Others are lucky and have a second chance to learn a lesson and not repeat the mistake. Sometimes they do it again and sometimes they quit drinking altogether. I for one, am one of those people. I received a DWI in 2005 right after I got out of the military. I went to jail, served 40 hours of community service, went to several classes, went on 2 years probation, and paid out about $7000.00 by the time it was said and done. A couple years after that I went on to get married, have a child, serve 7 more years in the reserves, and now have a successful career. I no longer drink alcohol whatsoever. Was it ignorant, stupid, and reckless? You damn right it was. But I learned from the experience and went on to become a productive member of society. If it were up to you I would be rotting in a prison cell. Sorry, but I do not share your sentiments on this. I took responsibility for this by taking the punishment dished out by the judge and not drinking and driving again. There are lots of people just like me out there. People make mistakes, YOU make mistakes. This world is not perfect.
  5. It is Invector. The choke that's in it already is an H.S. Strut "The Undertaker" turkey choke. It fits Winchester 1200, 1300, & 1400. It also fits Mossberg 500
  6. Thanks, I do like it a lot. I can tell it is a well made shotgun. My friend has a Browning and he likes his a lot too. I definitely do not hear bad things about them. I will hopefully get to try it out fairly soon. I am still looking for a place to hunt (besides public lands), and to shoot I have to go to a range. I moved out here about a year and a half ago and don't know a whole lot of people, none of which have any land. I am hoping to buy some in a year or so, but until then shooting is a bit of a hassle. I will likely join the gun club out in Sevierville/Gatlinburg very soon. At least I will have a good place to shoot then.
  7. Well, considering I have the ability to hunt and grow my own food and filter my own water. I would likely tell those government stooges to kick rocks. If they refused to comply I would turn my guns on them, take their supplies, and they would be walking home. Simple as that. To even accomplish something like this they would need massive amounts of food and water and soldiers to guard them. Our soldiers are American citizens themselves and where will the government get all that food and water? I don't think our farmers will be willing to provide supplies to a tyrannical government. Heck, farmers are some of the most heavily armed people in this country. Think about it.
  8. Lol, you mean right handed? Because we all know left handers are wrong handed. Just kiddin.... It's a very good looking shotgun, which is why it caught my eye. I didn't didn't want a synthetic shotgun, but I also did not want to spend a ton of money on one with a wooden stock and grip. I seen this one tucked away in the corner with all the other used shotguns. They had a $399.00 price on it, which I think was fair. It wasn't what I call a great deal, but it was definitely good enough. Especially considering it is in like new condition. I can't wait to try it out this season.
  9. That's good to hear. Thank you. That's why I posted on here. When I do a general search on the web I read a lot of crap from people that really don't seem know what they're talking about. Some people say a shorter barrel does not matter and then you have those that say you have to have a longer barrel. It's a bit confusing. My BPS does have the interchangable chokes. I have already been looking for some. It seems like eBay is the best place to buy them at a decent price. I did not realize that they are so expensive. I will not be hunting Dove, so I suppose swing will not be a real concern.
  10. I picked up a used Browning BPS 12 gauge today for a good price at Gander Mountain. It was one of those deals I felt that I could't pass on, plus I was (sort of) on the market for a shotgun. I am just curious if any of you has one of them and what you think about it. Are they good quality shotguns? The one I purchased is a "Field" model with a 22" barrel. I have never been into shotguns, so my knowledge is rather limited. From the research I have done so far it looks like a 22" barrel may be too short for waterfowl and turkey. Of course, I have read some articles that suggest otherwise. Anyone have any input on this subject? I don't hunt bird (obviously), but I may do some turkey hunting this season. 11. Lol, I made just one rational comment on their Facebook page about how gun control doesn't work and they gave me the ban hammer. I can no longer post comments on their page. I might get drunk this weekend and send them a hateful email. Maybe they'll be able to make better sense of a bunch of misspelled babble since they seem to have trouble understanding common sense.
  12. I decided not to buy it. I just don't have the cash right now. For those interested, it is at Gander Mountain in Knoxville.
  13. They made them in 336 from 1963-1967. After that, they went back to 1894 frames.
  14. Yeah I know. 44 rounds are very expensive. I had a revolver and sold it a while back. I think I might do it. I'll have to sell one of my other toys though.
  15. Came across a Marlin 336 .44 today for $500.00. It's in good condition and was made in 1965. How often do these guns pop up for sale? Should I race over there and buy it before someone else does?
  16. Don't fight back? That's pretty damn funny. If some piece of scum forces their way into my home, they'll be trying to run through the walls to get back out. I have never met someone that could out run bullets though.
  17. Tennessee isn't too bad despite all the crap you have to put up with when it comes to carrying a firearm. It's still a nice conservative place to live with deep rooted traditions. Still a lot different than the open spaces of Montana. I think Western Montana is a very beautiful place. I have only been there once and have wanted to visit again every since. You can drive for miles without seeing another human being. That never happens here. If it weren't for my family I would move out west in a heart beat.
  18. That will be my next one. I wouldn't mind having the .44
  19. Well, I suppose my experience with Ruger is limited. I love their revolvers. I do not go to them for my long guns whatsoever. I have heard the same thing about Marlin starting to have quality trouble before they sold out to Freedom Group. But one thing is for certain, the quality issues definitely became multiplied once Remington shut down the old Marlin factory in North Haven. They did not have any regard for the same quality standards that Marlin seemed to maintain for the most part. I agree that gun manufactures have to balance profit margins and quality. But it is still possible to do that and make a quality firearm. If anyone is willing to pay more for quality it is definitely true for gun owners. Quality is number one. Gun owners take pride in their firearms and they are a group that talks about their experiences. This forum is a great example, along with forums like marlinowners.com. When a gun manufacturer goes from producing quality firearms to producing substandard firearms word gets around quick. Once loyal customers can become a gun manufactures worst enemy. I for one, will never buy another Marlin from the store unless it's used. If Remington ever gets their act together (and I hope they do) I will buy a new Marlin from them. But it will take a hell of a lot of improvement on their part.
  20. The Marlin I picked up from a fellow TGO member has a safety on it. I don't like the fact that it has one, but it doesn't really bother me though. I just don't use it. It also seems to be fairly hard to accidentally put the gun on safe anyway. Not really an issue for me.
  21. I feel like this is a thread that needed to be started. Mainly because until a couple days ago I had absolutely no idea that Marlin rifle's were now being made by Remington. Since the North Haven, CT Marlin manufacturing facility was closed in 2011 all the new Marlin rifles are made in Ilion, New York & Mayfield, KY. Before buying a Marlin 336W from a fellow member yesterday I started researching quality issues being experienced by owners of the new Marlin's. The list is pretty long it turns out. I was still not convinced though. So today I took a trip to Dick's Sporting Goods, so I could hold one of them. They happened to have 3 brand new Marlin 336's there. I could tell from a distance that the wood was different. It was much lighter in color than the stock on my Marlin 336. Once the store employee put it in my hand I realized I was holding a totally different gun. This was no Marlin in my opinion. The wood was total crap. It was coarse in spots and the ends of the stock hadn't even been smoothed out. Also, the stock was not mated nearly as well with the barrel as my Marlin. The gun just felt CHEAP. Despite this, the price is still $449.00. I wouldn't even pay half that. It's a shame what Remington has done to this brand. I know that some of you likely have no issues with the new Marlin's being made by Remington, but I do not share that viewpoint. I don't think the new Remlin's are deserving of the Marlin name. I just want to thank Freedom Group for trashing an American icon. For those who would like to know how to tell a difference between a Remlin and a real Marlin (besides the crappy quality) here are some ways to do that: -Subtract the first couple numbers in the serial number from 100. That will give you the build year. The older Marlin rifles will have a couple letters at the start of the serial number. My 1965 Marlin Golden 39A has "AA" at the beginning of its serial number. -Marlin's made in the North Haven factory will have a "JM" stamped on the barrel where the barrel meets the stock. Remington made Marlin's will have a "REM" stamped in the same spot. -The new Marlin's will have either "Ilion, NY" or "Mayfield, KY" stamped on the barrel for their build location. They may all have "Ilion, NY" stamped on them, this needs to be verified. The true Marlin's will have "North Haven, CT" stamped on them or "New Haven, CT" stamped the barrel for the older ones.
  22. And that three will turn into six within a year. Welcome to the addiction! If you find yourself spending too much money on guns you better stay away from this website. We will only encourage you to buy more My first gun was a 1965 Marlin Golden 39A lever action. I got it when I was 4 years old and I still have it today. I also just picked up a Marlin 336W today from a fellow TGO member. It is freakin sweet. Still looks brand new. You cannot go wrong with a Marlin. They are some of the best built and most accurate rifles ever produced. I have heard of some quality issues with the newer Marlin's that are now produced by Remington. Remington's parent company purchased Marlin and closed their North Haven plant in 2011. They are all now built at the Remington factories in New York and Mayfield, KY. I won't say anymore on this subject because it's something that can be debated for days. I have never owned a Remington produced Marlin, so I cannot say which is actually better. People are more inclined to report problems than they are to brag about a particular product anyway. The 336W I purchased today was made in 2009, so it was made in the North Haven plant before the doors closed. That was important to me because my Golden 39A was made there. I am also not a big Remington fan, but I have my own reasons for it.
