Been waiting 14 days for mine to come in the mail. I am getting really impatient, lol. Congrats on scheduling your handgun carry class. I'm sure you'll do fine.

CATO Institute report on defensive gun use
Seabeejason replied to LagerHead's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I am not a Liberal, so I do not agree with Soros either. But the Koch brothers have done lots to adversely affect the economy for their own benefit. I really do not want to get into the details because I am not in the mood for a political debate. Their actions in certain business ventures exemplify greed. It is one thing to be a good business man (which they are both very good at), but it is another to do it at the expense of the entire general poplulation and the nation as a whole. -
CATO Institute report on defensive gun use
Seabeejason replied to LagerHead's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I do not choose to pay any attention to what the CATO writes, types, or says. Regardless of its usefulness. Of course this is mainly due to my own personal bias against the men who fund it, the Koch brothers. -
I bought one......pretty good brownies.

I have looked at some LCP's. I may even think about getting the matching LCP to go with it. I do agree about the LC9 being more of a holster pistol. I have already ordered a small Fobus paddle holster for it. The LC9 will very likely end up being my primary carry gun due to its small size and light weight. My XDM9c is a little too heavy and bulky for an every day carry gun. It sticks out pretty far from my waist, which is more noticeable and it also brushes my arm.

I feel the same way. I will hold onto the gun for a while and see if it grows on me. If it doesn't it will find its way into the classifieds section of the forum. I will be waiting for the new Springfield XDMs 9 mm to be released this summer. If I like it the LC9 will go bye bye.

I spent a few hours there. Got there at about 1 pm and left about 3:30 pm. I walked the entire floor. I wasn't impressed by the gun deals. Pricing was the same as I can find at the store. There are some decent ammo deals though, although I can still find the same prices just by calling around. Despite that, I still spent over $100.00. Got a couple survival books, some 9mm ammo, and a new grip for the AR-15. Overall, between Bills Outpost and the forum I think that covers the bases on finding the best gun deals around here. I did see a TON of AR-15's there. If someone is on the market for one of those the show is worth checking out. I also had a vendor offer me an ACOG for one heck of a price. It was the good ACOG with the holographic sight on top. They go for $1800 or so on Amazon I think. He offered it to me for $1550 out the door. I couldn't buy it, but I really wanted to though.

I know you were just messing around. I kind of set myself up on that one. I am just the opposite when it comes to engraved guns. I like the old school appearance. I am going to snatch up an engraved revolver when I come across one for a good price.

Yup, definitely stirring it....haha I think it is more neutral than anything. I do not think it is specific to either gender honestly. But as I said before, I didn't really care. I'm secure enough with my man-hood to wear it. I don't think anyone is going to walk up to someone that has a loaded gun and tell them their gun looks girly. That's just asking for it, lol. It still shoots the same regardless. I think it's a good looking gun. At least for a poly gun anyway.

I recently decided I wanted a Ruger LC9 as my summer carry gun and have been shopping around for a few days. Turned out that Bills Outpost was out of them, along with Academy Sports and Gander Mountain. It also turns out that the Ruger LC9 is now on backorder. Ruger is completely out of stock and nobody seems to know when they will be shipping out more of them. The gun place in Sevierville had one yesterday, but I was not sure if I wanted one yet. I eventually called Coal Creek earlier today and they said they had a few special edition models there, so I figured I'd take a look. After looking at it I decided to "pull the trigger" and buy it. They had two Deluxe Silver models and one Deluxe Gold. I decided to buy the Deluxe Gold model since it was only $20.00 more than the silver. Total price was $449.00 before taxes. I figured at very least the resale value would be better if I decide to sell it one day, especially since they only made 1500 of them. I really like it because it is something different from the norm. I am not going to say it is a beautiful gun. It is more "fugly" than anything else I guess. I stopped back by Coal Creek Armory when I left work today to fire some rounds out of it. It is an accurate gun for something that is so compact. One thing that takes some getting used to is the trigger. It takes a lot of pull to get the gun to fire. Since this will be one of my primary carry guns I think the trigger is adequate. I do not like the idea of a hair trigger on a gun that may be in my pocket. I do not want to risk shooting off something that I would rather keep . The trigger, along with the slide safety feature is enough to give me some peace of mind. I know some folks think the engraving on the slide is a little "girly", but I don't care. I think the gun looks unique and I am a sucker for guns that aren't something you see everyday. I took a picture for everyone, enjoy.

One thing about the S&W Sport. As one person said, it does not have a dust cover or forward assist. I would have bought one if it were not for that. Keeping the goo out of the bolt area could be handy in a nasty situation. Also, the forward assist is useful sometimes as well. I guess it is the military in me that makes me "need" these two features. I had them on my M16 and I definitely used them. I think they should be something everyone looks for on an AR. I got a DTI AR-15 for about $750.00 (slightly used). It is a good gun and despite DTI not being a "well known" company. I have heard lots of good about them from other owners as well. As far as the other brands go (Stag, S&W, DPMS, etc) they are great, but a lot of their clout is also due to good marketing. There is a DTI on the forum right now for $725.00 in the Memphis area. Just my $0.02

Hiking/Camping w/No Conceal Carry Permit
Seabeejason replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Really? Last summer I seen about 10 bears in the national park. Many of them were mothers with their cubs. Heck, I came within 30 feet of a mother bear during one occurence. It is easy to accidently sneak up on them. They all minded their own business. I also slowly moved away from them, so I wouldn't scare them into thinking I was a threat. They are definitely out there. I seen at least one bear almost every time I went to the park last summer. -
I went to the DMV in Clinton, TN at around noon on a Tuesday. I was in and out in 10 minutes. I didn't even have time to fill out the application before they called my number. Went to Gunny's in Maryville for finger printing and was done in 5 minutes. I was stunned at how quick I got done at both places. I went to the Maryville DMV to get my Tennessee Drivers License last summer and it took about 3 hours. Never again..... I'll gladly drive 45 minutes to Clinton the next time I need to visit the DMV.

I got finger printed on February 28th. Hopefully I will have mine in a couple weeks.

Hiking/Camping w/No Conceal Carry Permit
Seabeejason replied to MiddTennTaco's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
You probably will not see many bears right now anyway. They are just now coming out of hibernation. I think it is likely that some of them are still bedded down. Plus, the bears around here tend to mind their own busness anyway. Don't mess with them and they will return the favor. Some bear mace would be a good idea. That stuff will stop a Grizzly in its tracks, so a Black Bear shouldn't be an issue. It sucks to not be able to legally carry, but jail and a huge fine would suck worse. Have fun on your hike, the country side is beautiful here. -
I have the New Model Ruger Single Six with a 6" barrel and absolutely love it. It's a very solid/high quality revolver and comes with a .22 lr and .22 mag cylinder. And talk about accurate.... If you get back on the market for another .22 the Single Six should be at the top of your consideration list. The Single Six is the same as a Single Ten, they just have a 6 round capacity vs. a 10 round capacity.
-
I am sure they'll solve my problem. I went ahead and ordered an extra 13 rd mag and a 19 rd mag with the X-Tension from the XDM Store while I was at it. I can't wait until it all gets here. I am applying for the carry permit tomorrow, so I'll be good to go once it gets here.
-
Just now ordered a couple Pearce grip extensions. Thanks for letting me know about those.

Yeah, once you learn the trigger you will get that anticipation to go away. I sometimes find myself jerking the gun due to that. But I have learned to squeeze the trigger about half way before sighting all the way in and firing the round. Since I started doing that my shot has greatly improved.

I took the Tennessee Carry Permit course today and used the Springfield XDM 9mm 3.8 I just recently acquired. I have to say that it performed flawlessly. It was dead-on at the 3, 15, and 25 yard lines. I was extremely happy with the accuracy and groups. This is definitely the best handgun I have owned thus far and will remain in my possession permanently. I am going to be buying some extra extended mags from Springfield this weekend. I alternated between the extended and short mags during the course and my shots still remained on target. That definitely builds my confidence in using the shorter mag once I get my carry permit. I was a little hesitant because my pinky kinda hangs off the bottom of the grip, but it didn't seem to affect my shot. I know this isn't a "detailed" range report. It's more of a "I shot my new gun" report. Just wanted to let everyone know in case one of you is thinking about getting one of these. They're great guns. I have to admit that I am partial to Springfield's though.

I have a 6" stainless Single Six with the ivory grips. It is a beautiful gun. It is extremely accurate too. You can't beat it for just going out and having some fun. Not to mention the fact that it's perfect for shooting some varmits. I really like the .22 mag cylinder too. Really makes the Single Six pack some punch. I do not shoot those rounds much though, they're a little expensive. I just keep them in the ammo box in case I end up needing them. The Single Six is one of the guns that I will never sell.

I made a special trip across town after work and snatched up three of them. I got two saw cans and a 40mm can. The 40mm can was $15.00. They only had a couple of them left, unless they had more outside. I might grab a few 50 cal cans tomorrow. The wife was a little angry that I went to the flea market without her.

Ron Paul has my vote. He makes since on everything across the board. I like his economic and his foreign policy. As a veteran of the Iraq War I understand his viewpoints. The United States needs to stop meddling in the affairs of the entire world. I am especially angry about the war mongering currently going on over Iran. If brings back bad memories of the run up to Iraq. The media is already making the case for war at the direction of our current administration. Mitt Romney has already said he supports a military campaign against Iran. This is where it gets scary. Both China and Russia have already said they are willing to start WWIII if we attack Iran. Iran does not have a bomb and they won't for many years. But make no mistake, if China and Russia join in it WILL be a nuclear war. I am sick of these rich arrogant pricks getting us into these stupid wars. They send our sons and daughters to fight and die, while they kick back and enjoy another glass of wine. This crap has to end. It is not about protecting our freedoms, it is about how much more money they can line their pockets with. It is sickening. I refuse to support Mitt, Newt, or Obama. They are just more of the same. The line between Republican and Democrat has been blurred. All they care about is getting what they want and it does not matter who they have to control to get it. I urge people to stop watching that crap being forced down your throats by the media. Start paying attention to what they are really doing. Formulate your opinions based on real facts. I am not one of those people that goes around trying to convince everyone to vote for Ron Paul. I just try to get people to open their eyes to the world around them. If something does not change soon, there will not be any freedom to protect.
